Just like any other day, she saw him walking happily on the roads of Somnath; her heart pounded like a crush-sick teenager. Her heartbeat was faster than ever, and she felt butterflies in her stomach. Raavi loved how she felt for him; she adored him for who he was; he was no longer Dev's brother or a member of the Pandya family whom she had to impress for her entry into his house. He was no longer a forced husband with whom she had to live just for the sake of mangalsutra. This man in front of her was an adorable human being; he was intelligent, loving, hardworking, and crazy. His only problem was his anger; even his name defined that. She smiled when she thought of him. He looked cute when he smiled; he looked manly when he walked. Yet his hatred and anger scarred her to an extent where she couldn't think of giving the relationship another chance; she could never understand him. A phone call interrupted her chain of thoughts.
****
Raavi received an invitation for a party from her office, celebrating ten years of a successful run in the industry. Amayra forced her to attend the party, promising her to introduce her Anu di. Raavi was excited to meet her after hearing a lot from Amayra. She reached the party hall and was pretty much bored with long speeches. Amayra said that her sister would get there a little later; she was talking to people for the sake of talking. An hour later, she saw Amayra walking with a pretty girl; she wore a regular white top with white jeans, her hair was loose and long. She was breathtaking yet straightforward. Raavi was reminded of her college days as she saw her. Amayra came with a smile as she happily introduced her Anu di. Anu seemed very mature and loving. Raavi excitedly gave her hands, Anu looked quite awkward with the sudden encounter, but she managed to cover it up. Amayra spoke that she found many similarities; Raavi and Anu laughed as they saw her talk dramatically. She then left the two alone. They generally talked about work for some time.
Anahi – Waise Amayra keh rahi thi, koi bada project aaya hai, aur tumhara team handle kar rahi hai…
Raavi – Haan, bohot badi project hai, aur theekh se gaya toh hum me se kisi ki promotion bhi ho sakti hai. Lekin Amayra bohot dar rahi thi. Keh rahi thi ki yeh sab usse nahi ho payega. Achanak sabhi logon ko inferiority complex hone lag gaya hai... She said with Shiva in mind. She was lost in her thoughts as she uttered it. She kept walking along with Anu.
Anu exactly understood what she meant; she was hesitant to talk to her as she knew Raavi. But Raavi had known her as Anu. Amayra always called her Anu; she felt it was unique as no one else called her that way; she was known as Anahita or Anahi. She remained silent for some time and then spoke- "Waise Raavi, Amayra ko inferiority complex nahi hai, she's just underconfident. Usko sirf darr hai ki yeh sab usse ho payega ki nahi!”
This brought back Raavi's attention. Anahi smiled and continued, "Under confidence sirf kuch cheezo mein hoti hai Raavi, aur usko theek karna bohot aasaan hai lekin inferiority complex waisa bilkul nahi hai, woh long term hai. Ruko main samjhati hoon" They sat nearby, and Anahi continued.
“Jin logon ko inferiority complex hoti hai na, who hamesha unke negatives ke baare mein sochte rehte hain, imagine, agar uss insan ko kao taana marta hai, toh unke mind me who atak jaati hai, din bhar usi ke baare sochke upset ho jaate hain. Aur apne andar ke gusse ko nikaal ne ke liye kisi aur ko daante hai, achanak se gussa hona, baton baton pe chillate hai, apnea ap ko sabse kam samajhne lag jaate hain, khud ko kisi se compare karke apne aap ko loser maan jaate hain. Aur yeh sab ek do din mein nahi hota, yeh society na hamesha standard fix karke rakhti hai. Ek ladki ho toh aisa, ek ladka ho toh aisa, aur jab kuch log yeh saare expectations ko poore nahi kar paate hain, tab kuch logon ko inferiority complex ho jaata hai. Khud ko bohot haare hue samajne lag jaate hain. According to a research, inferiority complex bachpan se shuru hota hai, tum gande dikhte ho, tumse nahi ho paayega, usko dekho aur apne aap ko dekho, tum paagal ho, yeh sab jaane anjaane mein unke dil mein reh jaata hai. Har galti ke liye apne aapko doshi maante hain. Kuch logon ke depression ka wajah bhi inferiority complex hai. Yeh sab kisi ko bhi ho sakta hai, ek toh yeh bohot khatarnaak feeling hai, isko sirf wahi samaj sakta hai jo inse guzar raha hai. Lekin solution hai ise theek karne ke liye, treatment le sakte hai, kuch cases mein medicines bhi kaam aata hai, but problem yeh hai ki koi iske baare mein khulke baat nahi karte, psychologist ya psychiatrist ke naam sunte hi sab dar jaate hai. Iss society ne unhe tag karke rakh diya hai ke unke paas sirf paagal log jaate hai, sirf wahi jo mentally unstable hote hain. Lekin jab tak baat unke ghar pe nahi aati tab tak unko kisi aur ke mental ya emotional health ka kuch farak nahi padta”
There was so much noise in the surroundings, but all Raavi heard was Anahi's words. She could relate every word of hers with Shiva; it pierced her heart; he had been going through so much, she thought. She had already started to tear up as Anahi was speaking. Anahi knew she had done it; she could see how Raavi felt. Anahi met her after a long time, and she didn't want it to go this way, but she also knew it was needed. Unknowingly, Raavi had hurt Shiva.
Raavi could no longer stand there as she rushed to a call taxi, she felt suffocated during the trip to home, she ran to her room and broke down to tears. Anahi's words were ringing in her ears. She felt guilty and angry for her misbehavior. Shiva was the only person on whom she could pour all her anger. He was always the villain in her story, yet he had control over her that none other did. His silence got her worried, his anger made her scared, but she could never stay away from him. Shiva had risked his life to save her; he stood for her when she was insulted, not once did she think why he had turned so rude and cold. It all made sense to her; Shiva felt extremely low after reading her diary; she had often compared him with his gentleman brother. The following meetings with her friends would have worsened his feelings. She tried burning the diary and asking him to move on, but it could have possibly not reduced his complexity. She realized that even the smallest of words had the worst effect on him. The guilt had started to eat her alive. She felt utterly broken; she hated Shiva once but never wanted to hurt him in such a way.
Anahi felt sorry and guilty for hurting Raavi; she left midway, she was broken. Anahi wanted to explain; it was not her fault ultimately. She reached home sadly when her parents were making plans for her brother's birthday. She smiled brightly as her mind was processing something.
Raavi remained in complete silence for the next two days; she had taken medical leave from office. Prafulla got her perfect chance to blame the entire family for this. She made a huge issue in Pandya niwas that they had rushed to meet Raavi at home. Raavi was taken aback by their sudden arrival, and once she knew the reason, it triggered her sorrow and guilt. She had tears in her eyes; the others stood confused. Rishita comfortingly placed her hand on Raavi and spoke – "Tumhare inn aasun, yeh Shiva ke wajah se hain na?" her tone showed her overconfidence.
Raavi wondered about the family in front of her. Is it that she meant too much to the family and they know how much she loves them or that the family never loved Shiva. She slowly removed Rishita's hand and looked at the family; she narrated her encounter with Anu. Suman had teared up as she listened to it. She didn't want to come to meet Raavi, but she had accompanied them to give Prafulla and Raavi an earful if they spoke something terrible about Shiva. Raavi's words were rubbing salt to their already wounded hearts. The Pandya family had guilt in their eyes; they realized they had taken Shiva's feelings too lightly. Raavi finished narrating and slowly moved towards the family.
“Main bohot khush hoon ki aap sab mere dukhi hone par yahan aaye hain, lekin Shiva, who toh aap sabhi ke paas hi toh tha, kisi ne uska ssath kyun nahi diya? Dhara di, Shiva toh aapka favorite hain na, aapne uska saath kyun nahi diya, usko samajhne ki koshish kyun nahi kiya. Main toh gusse se andhi thi, pagal ho gayi thi, phir bhi mere saath, meri har galti pe parda daalne ke liye mere saath mera parivaar tha, lekin uske liye kon tha? Itne mahinon mein, mujhe pata chal chuka tha ki uss jhagde ka wajah Shiva nahi, mere dost the, usse baat karne ki koshish bhi, main maafi chahti thi usse, lekin ab uske mooh tak nahi dekh paaungi main. Sharam ke maare mein khudh ko nahi dekh paa rahi hoon. Jaane anjaane me, uska mazaak banate banate, usko ko kitna neecha dikha diya sab ke saamne. Jab bhi who tel masale wali baat karta tha, mujhe laga ki woh sirf mujhe taane sunane ke liy ebol raha tha. Lekin baat bohot aage badh chuki thi aur main, main toh pagal ki pagal hi reh gayi. Ek baar bhi usko samajhne ki koshish tak nahi ki.” She said in between her sobs.
******
“Ab yahi hoga Shiva”
“Nahi”
“Haan”
“Na”
“Shiva”
“Anahi, aise kaise, 6 mahine hone waale hain, maine usse baat tak nahi ki, ab achaanak kaise hoga”
"Hoga!!"
"Anahi!!!"
“Ab galti ki hai toh maafi bhi maangna hai! Tu Raavi se maafi mangega, baat khatam”
“Woh mujhe maaf nahi karegi, koi faida nahi hai”
“Lekin maafi to pehle maang! Phir uska faisla woh khud karegi. Shiva, tu ne bhi galti ki hai, wajah, chahe jo bhi ho, galti toh galti hoti hai. Shaadi se pehle toh tu ne use na jaane kitne torure ki, in fact tu ne use ek ladki ki tarah treat hi nahi ki. Problem chahe kuch bhi ho, ek ladki pe aise beech sadak mein koi sawaal nahi uthate, ek ladki apne shaadi mein pyaar se pehle izzat chahti hai, jab tum dono ek dusre ko aur dusre ke feelings kii izzat hi nahi kar paye, kabhi na kabhi yahi hona tha. Jis tarah tujhe Raavi se kuch expectations the, usne bhi tujhse kuch ummeed ki hogi” Shiva tried to interrupt but Anahi cut him off and continued “Ab yeh mat bol ki who chahti thi ki tu gentleman ban jaaye. Woh bhi jaanti hai ki tu nahi badlega, tujhe pata bhi nahi ki woh kya chahti thi, na tune poocha, na usne bataya. Uski ek diary se tujhe kuch nahi pata chalega Shiva, diary likhte waqt uska situation or mindset alag hua hoga. Ek hi baat par thikhna band kar. Aur haan tu toh usko pasand karne lag gaya tha na, phir usko jaan bhujke hurt kyun ki? Soch Shiva, main sirf itna chahti hoon ki tu maafi maange, divorce cancel karne nahi bol rahi hoon. Agar hua toh mujhse zyaada koi khush nahi hoga, lekin abhi ke liye maafi maang. Divorce ke baad bhi do log acche dost banke reh sakte hain, aur Raavi, woh phir bhi teri maami ki behen ki beti hai, aage ek dusre ke shakal dekhne honge, tab main nahi chahti ki dono sar jhukake chale.”
Shiva agreed to Anahi; he liked Raavi; after getting the bangles from Prafulla, Raavi appeared different to him. He had started seeing the real her. She was an adorable soul who could easily forgive and forget. She was stupid and childish but was loving and understanding. She loved his family just like he did; she was ready to sacrifice anything for them. His heart knew that he still liked her despite all of this, he knew it and truly wanted to apologize for his misbehavior, but he couldn't. He purposely avoided her in the recent months but was content as his angel-in-disguise had made way for that too. The next day was going to be a long one.
******
Raavi was guilt-ridden and sad since that day; she had become silent just like Shiva. Pandya family had realized their mistakes. But it was not enough; would Shiva ever accept them? He had been silent with them; he completely ignored their efforts; if they were treated this way, did she stand a chance? She wondered as she got ready. Amayra had forced her to attend her brother's birthday, she tried making reasons, but Anu had joined her and requested her to come. She couldn't deny Anu. She always heard of the butterfly effect; this was the first time she experienced the same from Anu. She and her sister had cleared out all of her misunderstandings related to Shiva. They somehow showed a mirror on where she went wrong in her marriage.
She finally reached Amayra's place; Amayra had asked her to wait in the guest house. She slowly walked in to see the room beautifully decorated; she smiled and flinched as she saw someone already standing there. He was tall and very well built, but most importantly, he was very known to her. Her heart beat faster as he turned; she held her breath seeing him. Their eyes met, and Raavi could feel her sight going blur due to tears. Through the blur, she saw him walking closer. "Kaisi hai Raavi?" She couldn't control a moment more, she flung opened her arms and hugged him tight, the handbag and the gift had already fallen, but she didn't care for it. The man in front of her mattered the most. She whispered a sorry as she hugged him; he was startled by the sudden hug but reciprocated the hug protectively. He felt worried, wondering if she was in any danger. He let her stay in his arms for some time and slowly held her as her sobs had reduced. Shiva looked at her when she said “I’m so sorry Shiva, maine tujhe kitna galat samjha, saari galti meri hai, choti si baat ka maine patangad bana di, tujhe kabhi samajhne ki koshish hi nahi ki, har baat pe taana maarte gayi. Tujhe har waqt kuch na kuch bolti gayi. Teri dil dhudhadi maine Shiva. Meri wajah se tu apne parivaar se maar khaya, tujhe sab kuch khona pada, I'm so sorry," she said all of it in one breath and sat down crying. He too sat down and held her; she was stammered while trying to speak. "Shhh," he said. He calmed her down and spoke “Mujhe bhi maaf karde Raavi, maine bhi tujhe bohot dard di ha. Poore Somnath ke saamne teri itni beizzati ki, teri har baat ka hamesha galat matlab nikaal tha, I'm sorry, I'm really sorry," he said with tears.
Both Shiva and Raavi had prepared what they wanted to speak if they got a chance to apologize; today, they were right in front of each other but speechless. They couldn't frame sentences except mumbling sorry in their breaths. Still, they knew they meant every word of it; they could feel how the other felt. As per Anahi's plan, Shiva was supposed to apologize, but as he saw Raavi break down, he couldn't gather words to speak. This girl was the most forgiving and loving person he met, she made a move when she was sure of something. He expected a different reaction from her but she amazed him by apologizing first. There was utter silence in the air, they did not know what to speak. Shiva slowly got up and walked towards the door to realize they were locked. He screamed for help, Raavi joined him; she tried calling Amayra only for her efforts to get wasted. Shiva stopped banging the door and thought. He figured out what would have happened. Anahi was his friend, after all; he knew her crooked ways, she was like him in some matters. He facepalmed as he saw Raavi screaming for Anahi and Amayra from the door. Not a single soul will hear or will respond even if they heard. The next thing she did surprised him, she took a vase and hit it on the door, not even a tiny part of the door broke but the vase shattered into pieces, thankfully it had not hurt her. He broke into splits of laughter at her move. Raavi pouted “Aisa kya has raha hai, kuch kar Shiva, Siddharth bhai ka birthday hai, unka party chal raha hai. Kuch kar na Shiva” she asked him cutely. He smiled at that “Ab yeh darwaza bahar se lock ho gayi hai, kal koi aayega khulwane ke liye, abhi ke liye, kuch mat kar”
“Matlab poori raat hum dono ko yahi rehna hai, hey bhagwaan, ab kya hoga? Bahaar se kaise lock hua aur tujhe kaise pata?”
"Ek kamre mein kaise rahenge matlab? isse pehle bhi yahi toh karte the", he replied casually while adoring her antics.
"Haina? Mujhe bore ho raha hai Shiva, kya kare?”
"Hmm, pata nahi" They both sat for some time.
"Yaad hai bachpan mein tu aur mein, hamare classroom mein band hue the” Raavi giggled at Shiva.
“Haan, kaise bhool sakti hoon, sab tere wajah se hua, tere uss prank ka natija tha, uss din main itna dar gayi thi ke mera dum ghutne lag gaya”
“Haan, haan drama queen, pata hai. Tu toh araam se baith ke khana kha rahi thi woh bhi mera favorite methi waale paratha, ek bite tak nahi di, sab akele kha gayi. Aur main, main toh bahar nikal ne ki raasta dhoond raha tha.”
“Oh please Shiva, main khaana isliye kha rahi thi kyunki agar ghar pahunchte tiffin khaali nahi toh, maasi se daant padta, aur hum band tere wajah se hue the, tujhe hi raasta nikaalna tha”
“Kuch bhi”
“Lekin yaad hai? Watchman kitna ghabra gaya tha, darwaaza kholte waqt?” He laughed.
“Aur nahi toh kya, unka naukri chala jata, bechare, kitni baar maafi maangi unhone” She laughed remembering the moment.
“Galti hamari thi, lekin maafi woh maang rahe the” His laugh echoed in the room, she joined him.
They spoke all their childhood memories; some felt stupid but had a blast laughing at themselves. Shiva fell asleep as Raavi spoke; Raavi noticed him sleeping after she did not get a reply. She stared at him, sleeping like a baby; she ran her fingers in his silky hair and adored him. She, too, fell asleep on the sofa. They slept only for few hours; soon, they heard someone unlocking the door. It was Anahi; she gently woke them up and said that the door was jammed from outside. She smiled as Shiva said the same last night. They were about to leave when Raavi stopped Shiva. "Shiva ruk, ummm, kya hum iss rishte ko ek mauka dein?" Shiva was shocked at the sudden question; he stood in silence and walked away without an answer.
Raavi felt uneasy; she wanted to give some time to Shiva regarding this. She was clouded with her thoughts when she saw Shiva hugging Anahita. She looked confused. "Anahita", Siddharth called her from behind. Raavi felt herself falling weak. It was Anahita, Amayra's sister Anu. Also, Shiva's assumed love interest. She walked away as fast as she could; was that the reason he left her unanswered? Did Shiva love Anahita, as the family said? Was she too late? She trembled as these questions started raising in her head. Just last night, they had been together apologizing for their mistakes, sharing many memories, smiling, and laughing with each other. She remained hopeful about her relationship with Shiva, but her encounter with Anahi made her think otherwise.
*****
Shiva was skeptical about getting back with Raavi, a part of him wanted to unite with Raavi and give her the happiness she deserved, but on the other hand, he still felt Raavi deserved better. The way she asked him of giving a chance to the relationship made him think; she said that with a smile, that smile of hers was not seen if she was uncomfortable, for sure no one had forced her, she spoke them and meant them.
Anahi's plan was a true success; she got better results than she expected; after Suman, she was the only person who knew his attraction towards Raavi, she knew he still liked her, had their relationship been given some more time and understanding they would have truly been Somnath's best Jodi. She wanted them to apologize to each other, but she learned Raavi wanted a chance; maybe that was not the end to their relationship. She smiled as she saw Shiva sitting confused.
******
It was a bright day in Somnath; a person had rung the bell of the Narayan house, Raavi rushed to open it, her once best decision, now a nightmare had come true, the person handed her a parcel and left. She ran to her room, opening the package; she held the papers close to her heart as she cried. Her eyes landed on the small sindoor box, "Kehte hain ki agar naak par sindoor gir jaaye toh pati bohot pyaar karta hai, lekin Raavi ke poore chehra par sindoor gir gaya," someone had told when as she got married. She had started liking Shiva very much these days. She couldn't imagine a life without him. But she had already given up; she believed Shiva had moved on with Anahita. He looked happy with her. Maybe she didn't deserve him.
******
Shiva reached home when Hardik received him with a courier in his hand. His heart pounded, he knew what it was, he took the papers and headed to the room without any noise. He saw those papers and he had no idea what to do with them. Suddenly, something crossed his mind, he ran to the balcony, he saw lights turned on, on the opposite house. He knew she was awake; the door was closed but the window was open, the curtains danced in rhythm to the wind, amidst that he saw her on standing with the papers. She looked sad. He went back and was sure of what had to be done. He took his phone and made a call.
******
Suman was eager to meet Anahita; she had made the preparations for her arrival. Anahita had won Suman's heart as she meant so much for Shiva; she helped him be the person he truly is. Only Suman and Krish had known about her visit. Unexpectedly, Raavi, too, had come to meet Dhara. The family knew Shiva had planned to stay home the whole day; that was the perfect time to apologize; he wouldn't escape like the other times. Shiva entered home with Anahita by his side; Suman welcomed her with a warm hug. Raavi's heart broke at that sight. Krish, too, lovingly gave her a side hug. "Umm, yeh Anahita hai, meri sabse acchi dost, yeh hamari class mei thi, aur hum itne saal baad phir mile hain" he didn't want to introduce her; he knew his family. He knew what they suspected; he had introduced to make Anahi feel better. Raavi slowly whispered Dhara to speak; she revealed the same girl who explained her at the party. Dhara was reluctant, but she managed to speak. “Shiva, hum sab tujhse baat karna chahte the. Please sirf ek baar hum sab ki sun" Shiva looked uninterested. “Anahi ghar aayi hai, baad mein baat kar lenge bhabi.” He said strongly. “Nahi, please mujhe koi problem nahi hai, main bahar wait kar sakti hoon” she said assuring Dhara. That earned her a glare from Shiva.
“Nahi, koi problem nahi hai Anahita” Dhara smiled at her and turned to Shiva “Hum sabse bohot badi galti hui hai Shiva, maafi maangne ki layak toh main nahi hoon, lekin tu saza mein jo bhi deka, mujhe swekaar hai”
“Aapne kuch nahi kiya hai Bhabhi”
“Tujhe kabhi samajhne ki koshish hi nahi ki, apne bhai ko peeta or gusse mein bohot kuch bol diya, iss se zyaada kya galti ho sakti hai” Gautam said.
“Apko maafi maangne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai, main pehle hi jaanta tha ki yahi hoga, toh main naraaz nahi hoon” he said with a tight-lipped smile. Gautam hugged him tight and wept. Shiva could feel his brother’s pain and agony. He never liked Gautam breaking this way, he hugged him back. Gautam could feel his brother’s detachment in the hug, every time he hugged Shiva, there was certain happiness and warmth, he missed it. He missed his brother but he also knew he was equally responsible for it. He feared losing Shiva, his younger one, he regretted every wrong move of his. He felt defeated as a brother. Shiva willingly became mature to support him, he refused to go to school because he had seen Gautam lifting sacks, this brother of his had equally sacrificed for the well-being of his family, he was emotionally attached to everyone, everything that gave memories. They stood so close yet he felt Shiva was somewhere far away. Gautam took a step back as he watched everyone taking turns to apologize, he didn’t move or react, he just stared at them, he took a few glances of Raavi in between. Surprisingly, even Rishita apologized to him for her harsh words. Shiva didn’t look moved at all; Gautam’s fear increased.
Shiva took a long breath and spoke “Mujhse bhi kuch galtiyaan hui hai, mujhe bhi maaf kar dijiye. Meri khaamoshi ka galat matlab nikaal liya hai sab ne. Main chup hoke aap sab ko dukh nahi dena chahta tha, waise aap sab bhi yahi chahte the ki main aap se baat na karun. Lekin har burayi mein ek acchai bhi hoti hai, inn mahino mein maine bohot kuch accha seekha hai. Pehle toh yeh ki, insaan kabhi bhagwaan nahi bann sakta, Gaumbi, Dhara bhabi, aapki baatein or daant mere liye naya nahi hai, lekin iss baar ussme sirf naarazgi tha, pyaar nahi. Aap sab mujhe woh banana chahte the jo main nahi hoon aur kabhi banna nahi chahta hoon. Aur Rishita bhabi, aapki baatein mujhe bura laga lekin itna bhi nahi, mere liye aap sirf Dev ki patni thi, isse zyaada kuch nahi. Lekin, main khush hoon ki aap sabko mere dil ki baat samajh aa gayi hai, aap sab mere duniya hain, chinta mat kijiye, main aap sab ko chod ke kahi nahi jaaunga.” He finished, his voice echoed in the house, everyone had lowered their eyes while Suman looked proud, he spoke what he felt and made them realise they had hurt him. Raavi had layers of tears in her eyes but she felt better as Shiva looked at her and smiled brightly, she smiled back. He walked towards her and held his ears, “Phir se, dil se sorry, teri har taqleef ke liye, apne aap mein kho ke tujhe chot pahunchane ke liye” she smiled and removed his hands from his ears “Main bhi sorry” she said holding her ears and doing sit-ups.
Anahi giggled from behind, breaking Shiva's attention from Raavi. He ran to her and whispered something in her ears, she looked surprised, Shiva said "abhi", and they ran from home leaving behind the confused family. Shiva and Anahi walked as fast as they could and finally reached the place. Anahi had a broad smile; she knew what was coming. Shiva turned to her and nodded; they climbed the trees and settled there. They sat opposite each other, "Khush?" Shiva nodded at her; he was the happiest soul; his family realized they had hurt him; Raavi apologized to him; she wanted to give their marriage a chance and accept him, his Rishita bhabi would not taunt him again. His happiness knew no bounds; for the first time, he wanted his family to see that he was disappointed, and he openly said it to them. Shiva felt burden-free after a very long time. He got his family back, the equations changed, but only for the better; he was willing to live with Raavi, make the best of memories with her, fall in love, and grow older together. Anahi let him be, usually, the trees were used to a sad and crying Shiva, this time too, Shiva cried, but out of happiness and fulfillment. She silently prayed that his happiness would last longer.

Dhara walked back and forth for the nth time, Gautam stopped her, she was worried about Shiva not being at home. Her pain worsened with what Shiva had told prior that day. She felt miserable to know that she cannot be with Shiva like before, he had hardened up due to her fault. She hugged Gautam as she let her tears fall freely. Suman saw them and remarked that being a mom doesn’t end with caring and feeding the child, and Dhara had lost her self-made responsibility of being a mother like to Shiva. She realized that he held high respect for her, loved her, and could do anything for her but he could speak his heart out only to Suman, after all, she was the mother. Dev and Gautam too felt ashamed, for not understanding their brother but also taking people’s harsh words on him too lightly. Gautam was reminded of the incident in haveli where the truck driver had called Shiva a ‘naukar’, that day they laughed over it and brushed it off but he should have done something more, he realized he should have asked how Shiva felt. Many such small incidents might have had an impact on Shiva. Dev too wanted to have a meaty share in mistakes, yet amongst the hopeless family, he was the only one who was determined to bring Shiva and Raavi together. He had seen the way Shiva looked at Raavi, they had cutely apologized to each other. He had spent a lot of time with Raavi explaining the brighter side of Shiva, it must have had some effect on her, he thought.
*******
Raavi washed her face, her eyes and nose were cherry red due to crying. She dried up and entered the room to see Shiva standing, leaning on her cupboard with his trademark smile. She threw her towel, went closer, and stroked him to see him disappear in the thin air. She was tired with her constant imaginations, she frowned and settled on her bed. She laid and gently closed her eyes. She heard “Raavi”, it was his voice. “Hmm,” she said in reply without opening her eyes. “Raavi” he called again, this time she was irritated, she wished she could never imagine again, she opened her eyes to see him kneeling on her bed. She took a deep breath and spoke “Kya chahiye tujhe, kyun aaya hai? Tu toh tere dost ke saath tha na, woh Anahita, nahi nahi, Anahi, ab yahan kyun aaya hai? Din raat tere wajah so nahi paa rahi roon, ab mere sapnon me bhi aa raha hai, chal nikal”.
“Hmm, tujhe kyun lagta hai ki mujhe Anahi ke saath rehna hai? Aaj tak maine yeh nahi kaha ki mujhe usse pyaar hai, woh meri dost aur haq hai mera” This answer of his got a beautiful smile in reply. “Haan, tu ne toh kaha na” she said excitedly. She paused for a moment and then spoke, her expressions changed this time “Tu ne nahi kaha lekin sab yahi toh keh rahe hain, aaj bhi, tera poora parivaar tujhse maafi maang raaha tha, leking tu uske saath chala gaya, ab mere sapnon mein toh wahi hog ana jo main chahti hoon. Issliye tu yeh keh raha hai, tu wahi keh raha hai jo mere dil mein thodi si ummed banke bach gayi hai” she said sadly. She saw him smile to it. “Accha, toh, yahi sahi main Anahi se pyaar karta hoon lekin kyun? Aise kya hai usme joh tujhe mein nahi hai?” She thought for a while “Kya nahi hai usme? Woh tujhe bohot acche se samajhti hai, tere pasand na pasand jaanti hogi, teri bachpan ki dost thi aur tum dono ko main pasand nahi hoon, aur, sabse zaroori, woh tujhe apni baton se hurt nahi karti meri tarah. Infact, woh teri har baat sunti hai bina kuch galat soche. Tu bhi uske saath bohot comfortable hai, tum dono itne kareeb ho, tu har baar usse milne chala jaata hai, Suman kaaki ko woh pasand hai, Krish ko bhi, isse zyada kya hi chahiye?” she said with defeat. “Theek hai, ab hum dono ke beech kyun kuch nahi hoga?” he asked. “Kyunki main galat hoon, mere wajah se tujhe na jaane kya kuch sehna pada, bachpan se tere saath jhagda kiya hai, tujhse shaadi ke baad har baat par tana maarte gayi. Mera dil jaanta tha ki tu dil se bohot saaf hai, lekin har baat pe maine tujhe shaq kiya, tujhe kabhi defend nahi ki, iss society ke liye, parivaar ke liye, iss rishte ko mauka toh dena chahti thi lekin tujhe samajhne ki ek baar koshish tak nahi ki. Chahe ya unchahe tujhe khud se neecha feel karwaya, tujhe sab ke saamne thappad maara, tere parivaar ko tere khilaaf khada kiya, mere wajah se tu inn dinon mein kitna akela pad gaya tha” She listed them with tears in her eyes, she felt absolutely heartbroken. “Ab meri baari, main ne bachpan se maami ka gussa tujhpe nikaala, bohot saare pranks ki hai tujhpe, tu jab bhi hamare ghar aati thi tujhpe who sabzi sab phekta tha, shaadi ke baad bhi tujhse har baat pe jhagadta tha aur sabse bura, tujhe zabardasti yahan wahan kheechta tha, yeh mere khayaal se sabse bui baat thi, tere permission ke bina tujhe choona galat tha, lekin main toh tujhe ek khilone ke tarah jab chahe tere haath ko zor se pakadta tha, tujhe dhakka deta tha, phir apne dukh mein, tujhe dard diya, sabke saamne teri beizzati ki. Tujhe unchaahe mehsoos karwaya. Maa ke kangan ke badle mein teri sauda ki. Tujhe main ek patni ki tarah kabhi treat nahi ki” He too had guilt, shame and tears in his eyes.
Raavi felt bad and spoke “Lekin jab bhi museebat aayi hai, tab toh tu hi aata tha, teri gussa, nafrat sab chala jaata tha, kitni baar, mujhe bachate bachate tujhe chot lagi hai, tune apne jaan ka parwah kiye bagair mujhe bachane chala aata tha. Shiva, aur, jab haveli main tu ne mujhse kaha, ki teri tel masalo badbu waale taano ko tu dil pe nahi leta, sach keh rahi hoon Shiva, ussi din se yeh tel masalo waali baat ko maine chod diya, mujhe tu waisa hi pasand hai, jaisa tu hai, tu rehna chahta hai. Tujhe maine theek se nahi samjha lekin tujhe yeh duniya ka sabse accha gentle man banake tere saath nahi jeena chahti thi. Agar tu thoda sab hi badal gaya na, toh tu Shiva hi nahi rahega. Teri choti choti baatein mujhe pasand hai Shiva, teri yeh trishul waala pendant, tere parivaar ke liye tera pyaar, tere kaam karne ka tareeka, apno ke liye kuch bhi karne waala yeh Shiva mera favorite hai, kabhi main bhi uss layak banna chahti thi, lekin ab toh sab kuch khatam ho gaya, divorce confirm ho chuki hai, tu Anahi ke saath” she couldn’t complete. Shiva felt on top of the world, all her yearned from her was acceptance for who he is, and she always liked him and seen him the way he is, his happiness knew no bounds. Anahi was right, this was not the end to their relationship, infact it was just the beginning. Raavi saw him in tears and wondered, she instinctively wiped his tears when she had her reality-strike.
He was there, he was sitting in front of her for real, she pinched to check. “Aaah, gadhedi kya kar rahi hai?” he screamed. “Shiva tu yahan sach mein aaya hai? Matlab yeh saari baatein mein tujhse kar rah thi” she asked unable to believe. He smiled and got down, he came to her side “Jo hua, woh bhool jaate hain, kya hum…… hum hamare zindagi ka ek nayi shuruwaat karein?” He asked with hope in his eyes. She smiled widely with tears in her eyes, she nodded her head and threw herself into his arms hugging him tightly. He hugged her back with the same passion. They were at their happiest. Raavi pulled back “Anahi teri dost hi hain na?” she asked with a pout. He smiled and hugged her, “Meri best friend hai, aur tu meri patni aur meri jeene ka matlab”. She smiled and wished she could remain in his embrace forever.
