We all wnat him to go back, but I think the character depicts an arc where he has no wordily sense or desires and wants to live and die alone, such people 'jogis' are usually like that, who in their right mind leave everyone and everything and just decide to spend their lives in solitude.

And yes, I do not know why does he have to experience seeing Mahi getting married again, i mean she should if that is her choice, but Farhad witnessing it again is very cruel, also as you said she will probably never confess to him, thinking about her family's reputation which always has been her first priority.
