And you basically came up with rules. So a man with any name can do an my atrocious crime that is historic. But has to be a conquerer. Has to have killed in conquest but oh Asoka repented so he's exempt. So convenient. Let's be real, who assasinated Gandhi. Nathuram? I believe that name would not cause any problem.

(Ted Bundy is historic and much more known around the world than Taimur. I doubt anyone outside of India knows Taimur. Hitler created World War 2, can't really compare him to anyone really).

If we're talking about specifics, then he needs to be a mass murderer in power. Yeah. Genghiz Khan also comes in that category.

Not juts Hitler, I said Stalin, Idi Amin, Papa Doc etc. as well. None of these names would sit well in any of these countries. e

next time you want to make comparisons, try something that makes sense. 😉😉😉

Also, Asoka's reign was BC. That way longgg ago. His accounts of being an evil king are also exaggerated in texts to show impact Buddhism had on him.

Also, the invasions that happened later were different. First of all they were all "foreign" invasions.

Never were there forced conversions, or places of religious worship plundered before that. Never was the "faith" or "religion" attacked.. its an attack on identity that happened later on. It is more fresh in the psyche of Indians and it has still left us struggling today. The scars of partition and the riots that still come up in volatile regions..

Seriously. I mean, comparing someone like Taimur to Ted Bundy?

Also emperors and rulers are associated differently in the Indian context. Our History, religion and cultural values are different from whatever happened in other parts of the world. There is no sense in equating or mixing the two. The way it manifested in our culture is different because it affects us to this day. We are most diverse country in the world and our sensitivities are different. We need to learn and respect the sentiments of others else we can't survive together.

I can't believe the justifications you keep coming up with.

How many people in India name their kids Nathuram?! Almost nobody does. You won't see anyone using names like Nathuram, Godse, Raavan, etc. Almost nobody names their kids stuff like Chatrapati, Chandragupt or Bajirao either. And normal people would anyway slide by because nobody knows them!

Name me one current Indian celebrity besides Saif/Kareena who have named their kids anything this controversial. No celebrity is using any Maratha emperor names or even Ashok that you've been complaining about incessantly.

How does it matter whether or not Taimur is known around the world?! Are Saifu and Kareena Italian or German or Swiss or something? Context is important. They work and live in India where names like Taimur are not acceptable for a celebrity. Of course they can do what they want. Nobody will be able to stop them but they will definitely complain.

Again, context is important. There is a politician named Stalin in India and nobody cares. But a Russian celebrity won't be able to name their child Stalin in Russia. Kareena constantly brags about her initials being KKK and nobody cares in India but if she was a celebrity in the US, she would have to be careful to NEVER use her initials. Same way the middle east is littered with names like Osama but an American celebrity cannot call their kid Osama!

It makes matters even worse because Kareena has a Hindu background. Her child is named after an invader who raped and pillaged and burned down temples of her own ancestors! Entire civilizations were massacred by Taimur. It just shows a deep lack of respect for herself and her community.

Let me put it this way. If Kunal Khemu and Soha had a son, do you think she would have ever let him be named something like Sikander or Narendra? No, because she's not an airhead like Kareena who is a simp for anything her husband wants.

Taimur, Auragzeb and the likes destroyed temples, forcibly converted people. Shivaji didn't do that, nor did any other Indian king. What Shivaji and other Indian kings did was exactly what the freedom fighters did to free India from the British, albeit they couldn't resort to wars and violence...

All warriors are warriors after all, they aren't 'saints'. Yes, some are better than others, some are really good and benevolent Kings who did a lot for their country and people. Tyrants will remain tyrants.. they are not just 'Kings' - many have had ideologies that are very problematic.

Like, he could have named his son after the former Sultan of Oman, Sultan Qaboos who was so loved by Indians there.. and who had so much love for Indians too.

but they are gone now why parents give their child a certain name is upto them nobody gets to have a say in it

this pages of discussion over something we have no say in is waste

It is a waste indeed 😆

But, I still think its disrespectful to India it... the country from which they have made all their money from., because how its still manifests in our society today - the situation between Hindu- Muslims gets tense even today because of our historical past, there is no denying it. The horrors of Partition.. Why Indians and Pakistanis are still enemies where we have a shared history and culture.

While Ashoka may have massacred in the name of war (all emperors do kill, right? Unless they were Prince Sidhaarta)- how is it effecting us today? He was still an Indian and not a foreign invader. He spread Buddhism throughout South Asia, and left edicts that are precious to us..

He is stil Asoka the Great. Historians don't term "great" without any reason. Asoka Chakra is our emblem for a reason, it represents Dharma.

The examples quoted have different connotations that are relevant today.
