Why Ramu apologised to Big B…
Everyone knows that you should expect the unexpected from Ram Gopal Verma, but when the maverick filmmaker publicly apologised to his "muse" Amitabh Bachchan, even the Big B was surprised.
"I want to apologise to him (Bachchan) because I thought that I could misuse his face, his stature to amuse myself. That is why I made Aag and Nishabd. I realise my mistake now," Ramu said.
While Bachchan looked suitably embarrassd and made it clear immediately afterwards that no apology was needed, Ramu insisted on using the very public platform of the unveiling function of his new Bachchan venture Sarkar Raj to vent his feelings.
However, when we later asked Ramu why he made the public apology, he had a different story to tell. "Everyone thought that I was apologising for having made the film again, but the fact is that I wanted to say sorry because I forced him to act in those films.
"Mr Bachchan didn't want to star in either Aag or Nishabd, because he wasn't convinced about both films, but I was adamant. I forced him to do them, and that is why I apologised to him."
Of course, as the whole world and his uncle knows, both Aag and Nishabd turned out to be catastrophes, but Bachchan made it clear that he was not put off by the failure of the same. "Critics and people may try and put you down, but if you are talented, you will rise again," he told Ramu.
