Just sent my answers. Another interesting questionnaire very meticulously put together covering various important aspects of the Golden Era of the BW. 👏

Got to revisit some stories from behind the scenes that I already knew and learned some new stories as well. Some happy stories and some gut wrenching ones. :( What I realized is that those days the drive to tell good stories and make good cinema was what has inspired them to make those movies in the first place. Fame,Money and profits happened as the automatic byproducts. I mean what quality, what variety and what talent. ⭐️

Thank you! I'm glad you found the questions interesting! I get like this about this era of movies and the people behind making them too. It's an era I'm passionate about, but I'm curious as to what stories behind the scenes you learned about, especially the gut-wrenching ones. The drive to tell good stories was there, yes, but a lot of them came into the profession because of the money it brought in. It wasn't the most sought-after profession because it wasn't socially accepted, especially for women.

But I agree about the quality and the talent. Variety too. Not all of it was good, of course - but the good ones are worth revisiting over and over.

I think it's important to keep in perspective the times these movies were made in, the social setting, and the production technology (or lack of) when judging them for content or anything else.

I sent mine in two minutes simply because I’m not playing for no points 🤣

But yes I actually enjoyed the questions, except for one I answer them from the top of my head.

Happy ones are there but the gut wrenching ones- apart from the well known Meena Kumari’s story, DevAnand-Suraiya’s tragic love story, knew about Guru Dutt but didn’t know how his wife Geeta dutt also died soon after leaving their 3 young children behind as orphans and moreover how both the sons later died due to suicide . and then the great Bharat Bhushan’s rise and fall, Lalita Pawar’s accident due to which she was forced to become a character artist from a lead heroine and played the mother of heros who were years older to her. Many many more such stories- each a dastan in itself! :(

Coming to the passion, yes obviously the reason they were there must be for money but the kind of cinema they made, it couldn’t have been possible if that was the only driving force. I was reading the making of MEA for example, I mean the movie took more than 2 decades of which the first decade or so they spent in just perfecting the dialogs and script.

@Bold: True that! But with whatever little they have, they still came up with some of the best content. More than what we can say about the current BW.
