Does anyone actually like the acting/find the cast has potential?

Hiya! Probably not a good idea to make such a controversial post for my first post here in this forum, but from what I've seen this seems to be a rather reasonable place to discuss disagreements or disappointments with the show, however today I wanted to talk about the cast of Udaariyaan? I see a lot about the story and the characters but not much about the actors themselves,

And to the most controversial part of this post, I think the acting on this show is sub-par at best. I think I was drawn to this show for the chemistry between FaTejo and the hopes of a fairytale-larger-than-life romance they had the ability to portray, and both Ankit and Priyanka deserve immense praise for making that click. But as individuals, or even as anyone else on this show, I don't think the acting clicks for me at all. Maybe I'm being nitpicky or too critical because it's their first show but a majority of the cast seems to be way more intrigued with their social media and promoting their offscreen antics than they do about being passionate towards acting or truly merging with their characters. Perhaps, it's because I'm so used to an era of actors in ITV that didn't have social media until quite recently. Also watching some interviews, the cast feels super entitled about TRPs or gaining viewership when they know people want good storylines and good acting. I feel if Udaariyaan wasn't Udaariyaan, a majority of the cast wouldn't be able to carry an audience based on acting alone.

About the story itself, I'm super bummed out about Fateh's characterization and no matter how good Ankit's acting becomes, I feel it will forever be overpowered by how awfully his character has shaped. I really wish Tejo will follow in the example of Mauli, becoming her own woman independent of how horribly she's been mistreated by a man. But after all, this is ITV so I'm keeping my expectations low. In regards to Isha, I really wish she gets more than playing the evil, annoying villain so we can see what she's capable of...

Again, I apologize if this comes off as rude or insensitive, however I think it could serve as quite an interesting discussion here. And please feel free to disagree (as I feel most will) civilly, there's no need to get disrespectful.

Blue: Same here!

Pink: Yes! Especially Ankit. I have made a few posts about this before but I am linking the article here as well. https://www.indiaforums.com/article/good-trps-motivate-us-to-do-better-ankit-gupta-aka-fateh-of-udariyaan_178267?ri=6&rv=6662

Yellow: I would have to agree on this part. I also feel that they haven't taken the time to get things right. Small things, but they matter on screen. Things like makeup, characterisation, character graph and a very mediocre supporting cast.

Green: I can go on about this forever. I have already ranted a lot, but in short. yes, completely agree.

Brown: I hope so too, there is a thread about that on the forum, do have a look.

Purple: I feel Isha was good at playing Jasmine till she became psychotic, I could really see the bubbly, sheltered, stubborn younger sister in her. But then the way she uses her high pitched voice to seduce Gippy and her psycho antics look more humorous than anything else makes me question her capability. I feel she was able to pull of Jasmine well, because in real life Isha is a little bit like Jasmine. Young and immature (not in a negative way). I sometimes feel they want to portray Isha like Maya from Beyhadh but are failing miserably 😆

Red: Not at all! Glad to hear your views!

Aww thank you for the civil response, I was honestly terrified (I guess twitter has scarred me lol).

The article about Ankit was the same one I was referring to. As of recent BTS, I saw someone say he also said that there’s a new plot twist or something like that? I can’t help but notice his total disinterest in promoting anything related to FaTejo. I hope that’s not my bias talking 😅

Agreed re: small things. I’m yet to connect to any character on this show, maybe a tad bit to Tejo because of her determination to want a simple life with her career and a loving family. But the self sacrificing part…eh no. And I think it’s a large part due to the lack of internal monologue we get and the inability of any one actor to carry a scene where they express their inner dilemma.

In fact, I want to scream when I see a new reel of theirs’ posted 😅🙈

I did see the thread re: Mauli but didn’t have much to add the original poster summed it well enough imo! Mauli of Silsila and Sonakshi of Kuch Rang (s1&2) are probably my favorite leads of any ITV show. The one thing they had in common was that they left when there was no respect left to be given. Unfortunately Tejo was snatched of her self respect long before. She has been playing second fiddle to Jasso’s dreams, had to clean up the mess of Jasso’s humiliation to the family, and now has to bear the brunt of Jasso’s obsession.

I see the Maya comparison here a lot 😂 Though I must say, I wasn’t a fan of her character at all lol. Even then Jasso cannot touch the complexity of her’s. Maya’s drive was love and dependency that she lacked from a male figure in her life, what is Jasso’s drive? Canada? 😂 I can’t help but laugh when a nonsensical villain like her is compared to some of ITV’s most famous dark leads lol. (I’m getting too obvious with my disdain for her now oops! 😅)

This is the most funny part about this show. Their TRP is actually nothing great. But the cast is behaving as if they are TRP toppers or something. Right now it is ok because Colors don't have better performing shows and also they don't have a good rival show. The moment that changes, TRP will fall and I would only blame the overconfident makers and some cast.

Coming to acting.. their acting is not that great. It is just that Ankit and Priyanka managed to create some good chemistry. So their acting flaws are definitely overlooked. And ITV don't really require people to act well. It is only about how much they connect with audience.

I guess the overconfidence comes from the minor success of your first show taking off. I remember reading they were on thin ice due to TRPs not too long ago…

It’s bonkers how the makers have managed to drag us back to JasFa when Ankit and Priyanka were the saving grace of this show. Call me biased but I feel no one from the cast connects with the audience. The only person who’s true to character is probably Isha (not saying Isha is Jasso offscreen but rather the childishness etc on her social media).

Hmm this is a very interesting post. Firstly everything you’ve said has been put forward very nicely so you don’t need to apologize and I doubt anyone will be rude.

I’m just not sure about what you mean by connecting to the audience. Do you mean connect via sm or through their acting?

Coming to over confidence about TRPs, most TV actors speak like that from my experience. Nearly everyone states that their show is unique and spectacular when that is rarely the case so I’ve just began to mentally block whatever they say.

Acting wise I find them all decent, I don’t know if they would be better if the characters were written better. Even the supporting characters aren’t that great. I too liked Ankit and Priyanka’s chemistry as Fatejo but the individual characters feel flat.

Jasso was still decent before the wedding. Fateh’s ibadati ishq was too stupid but he was a decent friend. Tejo’s acceptance of that ibadati ishq(she even decided to help him)and sacrificing nature was meh. I liked her dreams though.

Now that they’ve made Tejo stupid, Jasmine psycho and Fateh pendulum the only saving grace would be brilliant acting which I don’t think we’ve seen. I also agree that after what they’ve done with Fateh’s character, there’s nothing Ankit does that can completely make it better. It’s a pity because I liked him as Jatin in Kuch Rang.

Coming to Ankit promoting more Jasfa😆 Yeah that’s been noticed by several forum members here.

And yes about ITV villains, to be a good villain you need a good written character and great acting and Jasso has neither. I still remember Sakshi Goenka from EHT who was a villain but a treat to watch.

I'm not offended by your post at all.

I guess different people have different views on what a great actor is.

There are good actors, the average ones, those that need improvement and those actors that even in a bad scene they are considered the best 😆

The 2 female leads will improve over the time. I remember watching the initial days of IB and 100 episodes later, Surbhi improved so much.

These 2 might improve later on plus I think they have less exposure.

For me, the character of Fateh is badly written, whatever good there was in his arc, that has gone to the drain right now.

I mean stalker, obsessed and slavery in names of love?

The actor playing Fateh has been in the industry for many years, I've seen him in Kuch Rang and he did a cameo in Kundali, I found him good in both shows.

I'm neither a fan of the actors but the 2 female leads can improve tremendously especially if they are given more than *crying, sacrificing and obsessed* roles

About the insta posts, I guess I never followed a show where insta posts and reels are considered important. Maybe most shows I used to watch I rarely interacted with other people on forums or social media, I don't see how reels or insta stories will make a character better.

About posting stories aka more JasFa content, I seriously don't care... I mean what can be done when the whole character is based on a triangle and has no good commendable qualities other than that.

Insta stories, insta followers or whatever doesn't really determine how good an actor's performance is or how good the character is. It's just for actors to feel appreciated and fans to show their appreciation. Nothing more.

I think it would be better if any actors playing in a triangle would share posts with others apart from the actors/ characters in a triangle. It avoids fan wars, but then the fans demand them and it gets complicated.

Instead of reels or whatever, I personally would like some bts on how they rehearse or shoot for scenes, bloopers.... I think it's funnier 😆

About your post, I believe great actors are those who tested all type of roles, negative, grey or positive. Or had an arc which included all those, where their performances are challenged with each episode and they keep impressing.

This became such a long post.

What do you mean by that?

About your last post, I think Maya is appreciated a lot because she wasn't sacrificing, we got to see a wide range of emotions from her: scared girl, traumatised, happy, sad, depressed, psycho... it wasn't only the good girl, ever sacrificing mahah, screaming at a temple when things go wrong in life 😆 The usual itv female lead tropes

I don't like Tejo's make up

I don't like Jasmin talking like she is trying to eat

Father is not good enough to be looked at long enough to notice anything

Yeah with their experience, they are decent or at least I’ve seen worse. I remember watching the first few episodes of ANNS and didn’t like the FL at all. I feel like the script is the biggest problem here. Even the most brilliant actors can’t save a terrible script, only make it a bit more watchable. But I doubt even that would work in a script like this.
