Rajeev Khandelwal set out to be a hero while shooting for his debut film Aamir at the mutton market near Chor Bazaar recently. But ended up experiencing one of the scariest scenes of his life there.

A unit member tells us, "We had to shoot at the mutton market in the wee hours of the morning. The problem occurred when we began shooting next to some mutton shops near Chor Bazar. Suddenly a whole gang of shop

Rajeev Khandelwal in a scene from Aamir
owners coming descended on us, stalled the shoot, and demanded money from us before allowing us to shoot there. We were shocked since we had taken all the necessary permissions and paid all the fees to the BMC and the cops. However, in no time the scene turned really ugly and one of the guys started abusing us loudly."

That's when hero Rajeev Khandelwal who was inside his van came out to check what was happening. He thought some sweet talking would do the trick. But when he tried to intervene, the abusive man turned violent, whipped out a knife and threatened him by putting the knife to the horrified actor's neck.

Luckily the production guys galvanised themselves into action and took Rajeev away to safety. Of course, the shooting had to be called off.

Rajeev Khandelwal says, "When I heard the commotion I came out of my van and tried to pacify the men. Normally these people do listen to actors and that's the only reason I intervened. I sincerely thought that I could talk to the guys and put some sense in them. Unfortunately it took an ugly turn. We had to cancel the shoot that day."

Was he terrified? He says, "Frankly, there was no time to react. At one moment the knife was on me and the next moment I was lifted up and shoved into the make-up van by my unit members. Their concern was to get me to a safe place. I was not scared as I never thought that the man would get violent. In fact one of my unit members told me that it was good that they took me away, they could have killed me. I really did not realise the gravity of the situation and, more than anything else, I was shocked by the entire incident."

The director Rajkumar Gupta says, "We had paid all the fees required, but we didn't know that we had to pay some money to the local shopkeepers to shoot there. Actually one of the guys didn't get his hafta, so the gang disrupted the shoot, abusing everyone and threatening Rajeev. It was a scary experience
