I have a different take on this actually. I wouldn’t really call it out of character, not at all. We all know how Virat has no control over his emotions and his actions when driven by emotions are always dangerous. Virat has been like this always where when things go well between Sai and him, he will be fine, like when he doesn’t feel insecured about his relationship with Sai, he would behave the way ge has been behaving off late. But when things go against his liking or he starts to get insecured about their relationship, he is a person who wouldn’t be able to think relationally at all. Anything that is inclined towards this thoughts, which fans his thoughts or which he already is afraid of gets spoken by anyone even Pakhi, he would believe it. His thoughts get projected multi folds by someone else basically and hence he ends up getting influenced by it.
I am sorry to say but in real life, a person like Virat do exist who can be as loving, as caring and as understanding as that of Virat and the same person can behave in a complete opposite way, can become a completely different person when things do not go as per the per liking or unfavourable in a few things. So it is very much possible for him too to behave this way. It is his character trait and just because he is being very loving at the moment, doesn’t mean he is not capable of behaving in the way we are dreading him to be. He has some weakness like his family and his insecurity on his relationship with Sai is another big big weakness in him.
So, you know, as much as I was refraining from making this post, now that you have brought it up, I will type it out here. Yesterday, I commented on someone's post about Virat's impulsivity. I cannot remember if I tagged you on it or not, but I can't find it now.
As I was writing that post, I started to realize that as much as I don't want him to utter the word "characterless" to Sai, there are actually two ways of thinking about this.
The first is like you have said. Virat, as much as he claims to be someone who is thoughtful with his words, is as impulsive as Sai is. He says things in the heat of the moment, overcome with emotions and inconsiderate of what the consequences will be. The biggest examples of this are the two vaadas that are now haunting his life. I truly stand by the fact that Virat was never in love with Pakhi. It was just infatuation. But, in that moment, completely overcome by emotions, he promised Pakhi that he would commit himself to her forever. Then, he did the same thing with Sai, telling her to never expect anything from this marriage. And the irony of that second promise was that even on their wedding day, you could see the concern he had for her in his eyes. They did not have a love at first sight situation, but they have cared for each other and been connected since the first day they met. Their love story began in GC despite what either of them may believe. Moving on from these examples, when Virat insulted Sai in front of the entire family when she was going to Pulkit's house, he himself admitted later that he did not know what had come over him. He told Sai he has no idea how those words were able to leave his mouth. And then, again, he felt almost instant regret after the ousting incident. During all of these moments when he was attacking Sai, you could literally see the pain in his eyes as he was doing it. This juxtaposition has always stood out to me, because you can see that hurting Sai is hurting him, but he loses himself within his emotions so intensely that he loses control of all his senses.
Looking at it from this perspective, yes, the character assassination can be within his character. He is already impulsive by nature, and at this point, he is so deeply in love with Sai, and that also can cloud his judgement. Love makes people do crazy things and even do things that honestly cannot be labeled as love. I don't want to comment too much on this until the makers show it, but generally speaking, him seeing Sai with Ajinkaya in their bedroom compounded with his insecurities and pre-existing jealously, will surely be enough to make him explode....and in that moment, he won't be thinking logically...he won't be thinking that Sai has literally given him 0 reasons to believe that she would ever cheat on him and that he himself has said time and time again that her intentions are always pure...that he trusts her entirely.
Now, all of this is to say that him saying impulsive insults is within his character, and to be expected even. And that is the tragedy of it all, I guess...that this same Virat who cannot see a single tear in Sai's eyes and will destroy Pakhi today for hurting her....will be the one to cause Sai the most pain of all blind in his emotions.
The second way, the way, that I have been choosing to post about on this forum thus far, to think about this is that Virat's feeling have progressed tenfold since we have seen his other impulsive outbursts. The biggest indication of this was the post-college festival fight. Rather than yelling, saying things he didn't mean, he tried to make Sai understand where he was coming from. He tried to help her understand her own feelings towards him. Yes, he was jealous of Ajinkya, but he did not lose control over himself. And the conversation the next morning was further proof of that. So, another part of me says that as his love for Sai has developed, he has changed in how he approaches her, how he talks to her... he has become cognizant of the way in which his actions and words can impact her. It is as if the most important thing to him is that Sai is happy and that she is protected. That has been the highlight of this entire birthday track too. As if there is no stronger emotion he is capable of than loving Sai. So when I think about it from this perspective, it makes more sense for him to yes, of course be angry and yell when the dreaded day of the pre-kaand fight comes. But the point of that yelling should be more him trying to make Sai understand his perspective and where he is coming from than coming anywhere close to character assassination.
Just my 2 cents.
