PART ONE :

“Haan Krishna, sab kuch set toh ho gaya hai. Roses, candles, lights.. Haan usse bahane se bahar bhi bhej diya hai.. aane mein thoda time zaroor lagega.” Pallavi said, while placing the cake between the periphery of the rose petals she had decorated.

“Great! Toh mai baad mai call karti hun” Krishna was about to cut the call but was interrupted by Pallavi.

“Lekin Krishna... usse yeh sab pasand toh ayega na?” It was just a simple thanks. Just a simple expression of gratitude. However, she was still skeptical if Raghav would accept her small surprise. Thanking anyone like this was something very unplanned and new for her.

“Aree didi, jiju ki chinta aap kyu kar rahi ho? Unhe aapka surprise zaroor accha lagega.” Krishna gently assured her. “ Aur aisa ho sakta hai kya ki aap unhe thanks bolo aur woh accept na kare?.” She completed her sentence witha mischevious grin.

“Tu bhi na Krishna! Acha chal mai rakhti hun.” Pallavi cut the call as blood flushed over her cheeks.

Pallavi looked at the cake with a genuine smile, thinking about how beautifully their relationship had changed in the last 6 months.

From not tolerating her Ghamandi Rao to not imagining his presence, it has been a memorable journey. From troubling him to messing around ; from knowing the real Raghav to caring for him during his nightmares, every incident related to him was very close to her heart. She had started falling for his innocent, caring avatar and there was not a single day he wouldn't show it.

The cold breeze coming from the window which was brushing her cheeks reminded her of the day he confessed about his past.

She tried to stop him many times that day, assuring him that he didn't need to, if he wasn't comfortable. But he still insisted, saying that he doesn't want to hide anything from her. Those words, those emotions, those teary eyes.. everything remained fresh in her memory. The way he looked at her with his longing eyes made her feel special.

“Pallavi, you know, I have never slept peacefully ever since that incident occurred.. there has not even been a moment when I didn't remember him.. Arjun mera sabse kareeb tha... Uss din usko khone ke baad Amma aur Kirti bhi chale gaye. Bilkul tut gaya tha mai ..But when Amma accepted me because of you, then it felt like I am living once again.. Like someone has breathed fresh life into me My heart finally feels at peace.. And it has happened all because of you. Thank you, thank you so much Pallavi.” She had observed that how firmly he had held her hand close to his heart that day, as if scared of ever letting her go.

“Jab tumko mere wajah se apne family se dur hona para tha, tabhi mai thaan liya tha that I will clear all those allegations ; I will mend your every wound, every relation, heal your every pain. . Mereko pata hai ki Marathi Father in lawne abhi tak tumko maaf nahi kiya hai.. But I will try. I will try to pacify him so many times that he himself will accept you once again. I don't know how much time it will take but I definitely will. Aur yeh Raghav Rao ka vaada hai. Bas, tum mereko kabhi chorke matjaana...Tum ab mera family ka hissa hai, Tum, tum kahi nahi jayega na?” To which she had nodded her head in yes.

That was the day she realized that how hollow and broken he actually is. Everyone knows about the great business magnate Raghav Rao, the ruthless Hyderabad's ex Don with forgiveness never existing in his dictionary. But no one ever knew that in reality, he was just a lost, innocent child, who was desperately craving for his Amma's acceptance. A kind employer, who always treated his employees and servants well. A protective brother, who always ensured that his sister was safe and happy, even if it meant to let down his morals. A guilt filled person, who could do anything to mend his past mistakes. A great human being, who deserved to be loved. And unknown to herself, she did. She loved her Ghamandi Rao.

A sudden sound of her phone's ringtone forced Pallavi out of her reverie and she looked at it. Her smile immediately vanished when she saw the name which was flashing on the screen. With trembling hands, she answered,

“Hello.”

One could easily guess from her looks that there was something very wrong. Her expressions suddenly changed from shock to realization, then anger with grief finally taking over her features completely. When she cut the call, fresh tears were already threatening to flow from her eyes.

She glanced a look around the room ;and what happened next, was absolute chaos.

Everything in the room had become a mess. Everything was destroyed, just like the fresh hopes she had woven. Just like the bright future she had imagined for herself. She hated this. She hated everything which was happening to her. Tears were rolling down her cheeks and she dared not to touch them.

'Why' was all she managed to whimper in a shaky voice with tears blurring her eyes ; before her knees gave in as she sat beside the bed with a thud.

Something was broken that day, and she knew that it could never be mended. She knew.

Unnoticed by her, the only thing illuminating the room was a small, beige candle ; slowly flickering its way to welcome the dark.
