A lot of people take the mick out of Bollywood for having literal uncles opposite younger girls who are young enough to be their daughters but doesn't that happen in BW too? The one movie which comes in my mind is Wolf of the Wall Street, Margot Robbie had a flowerpot role in the movie and was like in her early 20s whereas Leonardo was in his mid 40s. Same could be said about a lot of RDJ, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise movies but no one bats an eye. Why?

Because doesn't matter as long as you look the part or have enough money to make you look the part

What? Did we watch the same movie? Margot didnt have a major role yes, but it was definitely not a flower pot role. The divorce scene was the best scene in the whole movie and both the actors were impeccable. Also I think when the movie came out Caprio was in his late 30s amd Margot was 23-24ish.

But yea I agree with Hollywood having flower pot roles especially in Jason Statham and Tom Cruise Mission Impossible movies. But I guess there is also significant movies featuring women in lead roles so ppl dont give much thought although I hope they would.

Yes. Women have been "objectified" in some HW films, but that objectification is not glorified or celebrated within the context of the films, unlike Bollywood.

Hollywood has problems too. But there is a good balance of story-driven, entertainment-driven and character-driven films in Hollywood, that sometimes have a male character in the focus, and sometimes a female character in the focus.

E,g, And Mission Impossible films are about Ethan Hunt. In all those films, both men and women have strong roles as well as normal roles. Women are not just "flower-pot" (as far as the BW definition of flower-pot goes).

Margrot Robbie was relegated to the background in "The Wolf of Wall Street", because the story was not about her character. But she had a significant part. Plus, as an actress, she gets interesting roles to do.

Senior actresses like Sally Field, Meryl Streep etc were never known for doing flowerport roles.

We, on the other hand, literally have "item numbers" in BW where drunken men roam around item girls attempting to grab/grope themsmiley23. And this is passed off as a normal/expected thing in our movies...smiley39 These songs are placed in films just for the "masala" factor and contribute NOTHING to the story-line. Directors have to label a film as "female-centric" or "women-oriented" first to get people's attention.smiley26 The less said about the scarcity of good roles for women, the better.

Although things are slowly changing now.

LMAO using divorce scene as a good acting. I would not call that an acting, It's easier for women to do emotional outburst scenes because women are tend to be more emotional than men.

Because there people care about the movie and not care how old the actors are..😆...that is why actresses over 50 years still get main leads...👏

I think female objectification and age discrepancy are two different things. It is OK to have age discrepancy in roles if you have the story for it.

The reason Bollywood gets trashed is because of how consistently and frequently old uncles romance women young enough to be their daughters or granddaughters while veteran women barely get roles. I don't think the age discrepancy in Hollywood is that stark.

If you look at the filmography of the Hollywood actors you mentioned, the age discrepancy in recent years is 10-15 years at most. In Bollywood, that gap is 20-25 years which I find obscene. Veteran women in Hollywood still get meaty movie roles. Frances McDormand has won two best actress awards in her sixties. Charlize Theron is in her 40s and still hailed as a bankable action star. But in Bollywood, the female stars fade away once they enter their late 30s.

I'm not going to say Hollywood is perfect. There still is a gender and age discrepancy. I mean this sketch totally calls out Hollywood. And western media is guilty of extreme sexism and misogyny. Megan Fox was treated like a flower pot and was Hollywood's version of an item number. When she tried to stand up for herself she got shunned from the industry. The whole Britney Spears conservancy fiasco shows how the media was brutal to women. People are finally apologizing for how they treated the likes of Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and others.

---
But age discrepancy aside, the biggest reason why Bollywood will consistently be bullshit to women is the whole romanticism built around stalking, pursuing, and harassing women. Bollywood needs to fix that stat.

---

Btw, I think Wolf of Wall Street is not the best example. Jordan Belfort is an antihero. The movie is about greed and excess. Everything about him is supposed to be repulsive or questionable, including a penchant for young women. It would be ridiculous if he was with a woman his age.

What divorce scene are you referring to?

Men and women are both humans and both are equally capable of experiencing the whole spectrum of human emotions. It is a myth that men are not emotional.

Adam Driver was on par with Scarlett Johansson in Marriage story and perhaps had the more extreme emotional outbursts.

At least that’s balanced out with the number of women oriented movies they make
