I just bought a retinol/glycolic acid micro peel cuz I haven’t really used retinol before. I got Botox once for my frown lines cuz I didn’t wanna look like I’m pissed even when I wasn’t … beyond that, I rely on natural oils, moisturizers, and a vit c serum with religious application of sunscreen 30+. Sandalwood face masks every now n then, hydration, exercise, sleep, and all that good stuff.

Anyways, I was shopping around and came across Kate Somerville Retasphere, which was on sale, and I started thinking of this thread and how retinol is being propped as a game changer of sorts.

If it doesn’t live up to its promises, I’ll try not to blame y’all. 😆

I thought lighter skin aged faster but they all have very similar skin tones and look the same as before. It looks like they have had no work done at all which is what everyone wants

I’m pretty sure they get medical procedures done too. Rest is makeup 😆

Also I have quite dry skin and from a few months I am seeing increase of grain like stuff over cheeks. Not like.pimple but these will grow and remain there. There is no dietary changes or anything. Can it be lack of sun, from Feb onwards it's completely WFH and not even 1 min of sun. I am just blabbering idk 😆😭

Please get your thyroid tested...don't want to scare you but these sound like symptoms of hypothyroidism

If it’s good for wrinkles as well double the treat lol I do have an eye cream that has caffeine in it and I have been using it for like a month don’t see a difference in my dark circles. Since my skin is sensitive and allergic to fragrance, I use vitamin c brightening to help with dark spots. But I will look into the ingredients you mentioned as well.

Yeah Retinol is also great for dark spots but many people need to ease into using Retinol. The other ones I named are more tolerable. In the end, everyone's skin is different, see what works for you. Test in small patches first.

For anything really a month isn't enough. I would say give these things 4-6 months. From all of the dark spot treatments, Hydroquinone works the fastest.

Doesn’t retinol peel the skin?

Yeah, it can cause such issues - that's why I gave the warning. You have to ease into it until your skin gets used to it. Start with a lower percentage.

I also suggested bakuchiol as an alternative since it has the same results but is tolerable to the skin and doesn't have the side effects that retinol has. You can also pair bakuchiol with retinol as it will increase its stability and may lessen the side effects of retinol.

Actually, I had heard of retinol only when people had skin issues etc.. and that it removes the layer of the skin, I did not know people have made it as a part of regular skin care.

I gave up after a few days. I’ll save up and get surgery (dimpleplasty) instead. Problem solved!

Retinoids are used to treat issues like that - they are prescribed by the doctor. Retinols, I have always known are for lesser issues and regular skincare.
