May be Machis. But it's an older film.

Yes 4 states banned it, on due to the mere rumours of it having sex scenes between Padmavati and Khilji. Rumours probably spread by SLB's PR😆

I guess people have forgotten Mani Ratnam's Bombay that was banned in Maharashtra MP Gujarat and UP for showing a Hindu hero with Muslim Heroine.

Bombs were hurled in Mani house and he got injured.

Or the movie Kissa Kursi Ka based on emergency.

The movie producer and director were arrested and all the film reels confiscated and destroyed

Or the movie Andhi banned in India because it story resembled previous prime ministers life.

Padmavat was fake controversy created for publicity including the ban part.

Otherwise Jodha Akbar which actually had Muslim king marrying Hindu princess got all India release and became a hit.

So twitter trolls and YouTube bots create down votes and hash tags. That doesn't affect any movie business unless the movie itself is trash.

Which movies like Sadak were.

India cannot become Pakistan. It is a federal democracy where even if 4 states ban a movie 26 other states will release it tax free and the audience in India will make it a super hit, only if the movie deserves to be a hit

Hey ram (although it did have controversy back then aswell, in today’s climate, this would have caused major unrest in the country I think )

veer Zaara

I also think if “radha” from soty released today, people would have had kjo for breakfast

“Radha on the dance floor…radha likes to party”

But Padmavati was actually banned in 4 states, that’s insane! I cannot get over it. Sure India may never become Pakistan completely but it’s definitely on it way to becoming at least a younger sister, if not twins 😆

India is not becoming Pakistan😆.

It wasn't banned by SC, but these 4 states banned it mostly for law and order situation in these states, although obviously they were quick to say it was for "distorting history and damaging the image of Rajputs", obviously to appease the Rajput groups in these states.

But the real reason was law and order situation, others were just gimmicks used by State governments to gain support of the majority. Otherwise why would you think a state ruled by Yogi(the supposedly Hindu terrorist CM) didn't banned it? Because in UP, their were no large scale protests.

Even Goa police wanted the movie to be banned due to law and order situation. Although it was refused by the State government, which was also BJP.

The lack of support from BJP during this controversy, is why fringe groups like Karni Sena led to Karni Sena not supporting them, rather supported Congress during the Rajasthan elections in 2018. No not defending BJP, just stating facts.

I suppose you are not currently residing in India?

See while there is no doubt, BJP is a majority appeasing party and tries to vilify anyone who bashes them but this whole thread is a stupid one, containing nothing but fear mongering.

Exactly

Banning movies that were controversial is nothing new and definetly not increasing either.

Movie releases if at all prohibited are done by stategovernments for their own reasons

Only one Prime Minister in India tried to abuse her power and censored media and citizens. But that was in the past.

India is a vibrant democracy where citizens elect their government of their own choice every 5 years.

Majority in centre doesn't mean majority in states and that has been proven time and again too.

India is a free place and will remain so.. Because in India people have a right to criticise and right to protest against well.

If someone does not like a movie they have a right to protest against it. It is stategovernments responsibility to ensure law and order and freedom of expression. Central government has got nothing to do with it.

If people of a state feel their government is oppressive they can easily vote them out in the next election. If people of India feel the central government is oppressive they can be voted out very easily too.

Social media warriors making noise either pro or against make no difference

Those who like that movie still can go and watch it if it is releases in their area if not sooner or later it will get released on TV and OTT
