I figured it's actually Raavan that ruined him after several other posts mentioning it, no drama there, so please sit down. But Drona did drop his credibility by a lot and he lost movies cuz of it too.
Please sit down? But I LOVE to stand up when I'm excited so no.*
Yes you're right, Raavan was the one that did the damage. Few reasons for that. Mani Ratnam being the director, there were super high expectations, and especially after the two had produced Guru (2007) which was very well received. The special thing about Raavan was that it was filmed in Tamil with another actor playing Abhishek's role: Vikram. That Tamil version was also dubbed and released in Telugu. Both the South Indian versions did better than the Hindi version. And Vikram's performance was also appreciated more than Abhishek - so it just made him stand out more than usual.
Drona did indeed prove to people in the industry that spending that amount of money on an Abhishek Bachchan film is extremely risky, to say the least.
And like someone else pointed out, Abhishek himself stayed away from Solo projects after this period. He relied on ensemble casts and somehow managed to get another decade of a career.
Once during the promotions of Housefuls 3 (2016) he was asked at the trailer launch(?) about doing 3-hero films and he was clearly flapped when trying to answer the question.
But bless him, I do have a soft sot for him. He is talented. But whatever talent he does possess, does not equal the opportunities he's been given because of who he is. And that's a shame.

Is it too early to say Love Aaj Kal 2 for Sara Ali Khan? 😆
it was a thing back then for big action movies to have mobile games to target kids . Drona, krishh, dhoom, ra one all had games.Originally posted by: SmittenKitten
Drona had a game? 🤣 I understand promoting movies to create curiosity and excitement but getting all extra with games and putting all your eggs in one basket is such a bad idea and reeks of overconfidence and stupidity, both.
They should really save all the grandiosity for the actual movie. SRK did something similar with Ra.One by going above and beyond to create toys and whatnot ... when frankly, it already looked like a disaster waiting to happen. What's the point of selling toys at grocery stores? 😆 He could still take the hit then but someone like Abhishek is a different story. They should draw a line while promoting movies in that sense ... so that they don't risk losing their reputation and become the butt of jokes if and when their movies fail.
These are a time I liked these two. But sadly Hrithik is a dried up flop actor like Aishwarya Rai. He hasn't been able to have a hit in years!...
