Mere yahaan aisa kuch nai hai. I’m generally a self conscious person so I always dress up modestly.. generally jeans top & in summers I prefer wearing Kurtis like ishqi.. I love plazzos too, super comfy. when I’m out. Ghar pe toh I can’t wear anything that covers my legs 😆

Meri toh Daadi bhi sleeveless pehenti hai and my bua who is in her 50s is tall and still thin toh she even wears dresses. My mom used to wear skirts and ek long dress aati thi pehle.. knee ke neeche tak, she used to wear that. She wears suits and Kurtis only now, functions pe struggles to wear a saree.😆

My college friend married in a conservative baniya family in Delhi, uske yaha saree ka issue tha. But now she told me she started wearing suits.. usne wala suit and Kurti ka rivaaj shuru kar diya.

Hamare yahan toh most of the older generation saree hi pehenti hain. Mere native place mein most of the women wear saree. My mom too whenever going there wears saree though in our home she avoids it except for poojas😆 In our generation it's bit less especially in cities, as many going to work prefer salwar suits, kurtis or formals. But woh log bhi functions/pooja vagera mein aate hain toh specially married women, generally wear saree only. Or mostly they are expected to😆

I too love kurtis and plazzos feels very comfy❤️can't handle sarees🤣 I have many times asked my mom aaplog kaise pehente ho?😆 I find it quite uncomfortable, aur jab pehenti hun bass ek jagah jaake baith jaati hun🤣 first time I wore it for farewell function in 12th std and when I said mujhe saree pehenni hai, my mom and bro were seriously worried ki kahan jake giregi yeh🤣

Ghar pe parents are okay with anything but when I visit my village they ask me to dress a bit traditionally😆 wear bindi bangle and all which I generally run away from🤪

@bold- 😲😆

At one of my uncle's house it's like that. Unke yahan toh ek bhaiyya bhabhi bahar city mein rehte, there my sil doesn't wear saree but when she comes home she has immediately change into saree

A doubt regarding the episode- dadi had said itna kuch hone ke baad bhi Rhea tujhe chod ke nahi gai

Par hua kya hai? Aisa Ahaan ne kya kardia ki Rhea ko use chod ke jaana pade? dadi was speaking like Rhea is doing some favour on him by sticking to him🤣

I have worn saree twice in my life and I’m like mujse na ho payega. I guess it takes time to get used to. My aunt who wears sarees at work she tells me cotton sarees are super comfortable.

I do like wearing bangles and Bindi at times, I also love dupattas, especially phulkari waale..and aajkal ghar pe payal pehen kar ghoom rahi hu 😆

I don’t even have a village or a native place as such. My family moved to Mumbai/ Delhi after partition. Village etc toh kuch hai hi nahi. I have noticed however, that my family is more advanced / forward than most people around.

Are you a North Indian by the way?

By the way, my grandma tells me that punjabis originally don’t wear sindoor. She’s from Sargodha (now In Pakistan) and she told me that punjabis have just out of fashion started wearing sindoor. It’s not a traditional thing for us. Married punjabi women only wear bindi..

Just like I have seen many non punjabi girls wear chooda after marriage just because they want to. A friend of mine did the same but she got sick of it 😆

Feel free not to answer it if it's too personal ( I won't mind 😊), but where they did migrate from?

Somewhere between Lahore and Lyallpur (the two most common places when I read partition accounts), or a little more far flung? (Rawalpindi/Peshawar types)

Bit of a history afficionado here, ergo the question.

Edit- just read Sargodha in the post above, so that answers my question.

What about Mangalsutra? Is it common in Punjabis? I know some Marwaris who don't wear Mangalsutra and it is out of fashion they started it. For them sindoor is important.

I am Maharashtrian, we don't wear Sindoor at all. My mom or any aunties, no one wear it. Normal bindi and Mangalsutra is common

By the way, Peshawar isn’t Punjab.. most people from there are Pakhtuns. The language spoken there is different too.

I used to think its their tradition to wear sindoor😆

We too don't wear sindoor. Only bindi. Even in our marriage rituals sindoor bharne ka koi ritual nahi hota. I got to know of sindoor concept from ITV only😆
