Rao is a common surname in Andhra like Kapoor in North.

In Andhra / Telangana, Rao and Reddy is not exactly a surname, it’s part of the name basically like a caste.. there will be a different surname.

If they are a reddy by caste, they will add Reddy to the end of their name like Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.. the surname is YS (Yedugiri sandinti) and Jagan Mohan Reddy is the first name.

Similarly with telangana CM KCR. His caste is velama not Brahmin and they add Rao to the end of their name and some others castes do as well. His surname is K (kalavakuntla) and his first name is Chandrasekhar Rao

I personally hate the whole concept of caste and I think people should stop naming people in such a way that indicates the caste of the person.
