He wasnt abusive physically. He used to scold her a lot. And once He slapped her when Dilshad was dying as he thought she is the reason Dilshad got attacked. I kind of understood his reasons as he would have done that irrespective of gender. His mother was shot and there were all evidence that it was because of Zoya's carelessness. Many viewers left the show after the slap.
