I don't think so. They show such things in dramas, write the names of characters and all. It is acting.😃

I liked the idea pf this drama in the sense that we tend to be quite selfish when it comes to our happiness but I think a one sided narrative of how we should be self sacrificing for parents is also problematic because parents choose to consciously bring you in this world. as much as the children should be kind and considerate to their parents, we shouldn't;t foster a culture where we look as children as investments. I think my critique lies with how in order to emphasise how much parents have provided for children, and now it's their time to be the caretakers, we start looking at humans through the lens of them being products. There's also a patriarchal notion where fiscal responsibilities often land up at the feet of a household's son. Of course this show had three sons who could've bored the expenses. I am pointing at the general idea this theme pushes.

well written script but the show definitely had more potential.

I think children taking care of parents when they grow old is a honor, nimat.. and I know it is tough to have your own children and still have to think of your parents' needs. I am from a different country, here joint family system is fading, But still can relate to this drama.

In Hadeeth shareef :

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, that his grandfather said:

"A man came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and said: 'My father is taking all my wealth.' He said: 'You and your wealth belong to your father.' And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Your children are among the best of your earnings, so eat from your wealth.’”

i agree with your sentiment but to purely have children with the expectation that they’ll be your caretakers in the future is a selfish reason to have children. children are human beings. you can’t detach a humans ability to practice human will only because that person is your child or is in a relationship with you where you’re perceived as the authority figure.

I am talking about in general expectation of children not about this show.

i just think that in light of a hyper capitalistic economy where family structure (nuclear family) has been turned into a commodity and a consumer need, the social effects of being a human being who can take care of another (which can be parents, partner/spouse, your own children) are already hard. I am not a fan of nuclear family structures as they are very recent invention and a side effect of colonial and imperial power but instead of critiquing the reasons why we live in a society which only humanises people who are productive to the economy (by either contributing like having a job, or by being a silent partner like housewives who perform emotional and physical labour without getting paid or acknowledged for it), is wrong. I hope i’m articulating myself well. if people willlingly want to take care of their parents that’s amazing and kudos to them but we shouldn’t create a culture of shame for people who want to move to other cities or prioritise individual success. I think this show missed the mark at properly critiquing that issues which drive people to choose individual successes rather than communal happiness.

My English isn't that good, so excuse me if I misunderstood you.😳

Having children is a big task. You give up on your privacy, luxury and comfort to rise them, and if you don't expect something from it then you must be a saint.😳 I think many ppl in the west don't want children , because in their culture children aren't supposed to take care of their parents when they grow old. So why should they have children then?. I know there must be a selfishness in my thinking. I am not just talking about the financial support , the emotional one as well. Talking to your parents daily or weekly can make them happy, yet many ppl don't do it specially when they live far away from their parents. Believe me nothing equals the love a mother or a father has for his child.. when you love someone this much it breaks your heart when he doesn't love you or ask about your well being.

In Aulaad the kids were living in the same house with their parents , so they had to share the financial matters. They aren't asked to pay rent of the house which belongs to their parents, so at least they can pay for the pills or food. It is a sign of responsibility.. plus their father didn't ask for more that what they can offer. Remember their father didn't save a benny , all his money he spent on educating his children.. and they got good jobs only because of his support. Jalal had 5 children. It isn't easy to rise them, and give them good education .. he worked hard, and gave up on many things to make sure his children won't suffer in future. If you compare this to the western culture.. most of parents have only a child or two.. but here in the 3rd world families contain many children ..salaries aren't high.. so the joint family system is a need.. and everyone in the family has to share the responsibility of it.😊

i am talking about pakistan itself not the west. pakistan has a growing nuclear family households too and i’m talking in general terms not the show. i didn’t watch all the episodes of the show so i won’t be a good judge of it but i did understand the general theme of the show and i disagree with the idea it promoted.

as for having children with the sole intention of them being good investments, yes it is selfish to think that. while i am sure parents love their children i fire amount, i think in general people should have children if they are ready to unconditionally love children and bring them up with good values instead of investing all their money on a lifestyle in hopes of their children returning that favor.

and i don’t mind anything you’re saying. this is a discussion post and we’re discussing opinions. ofc we can agree or disagree 😊
