I have no love for sites like Twitter and Facebook because obviously, they care about profits, and their current processes for safety, privacy, and anti-bullying are lacking.

That being said, we do need large social media platforms to push back against the increasingly draconian laws that the current government in India is pushing. In order to crush opposing thoughts, they are treating every voice of criticism or dissent as anti-national and coming down hard on it. Criticism of government is free speech and essential for the functioning of a democracy, it is alarming that so many Indians are happy with their rights being stripped away. It may seem good now because the voices they disagree with are being silenced, but if they don't stand up now the day will come when even they will be silenced.
