Chapter 8
"Loneliness can eat up a person even in crowd, a true friend is what one needs to come out of this darkness".
Sitting by the window, a girl looked outside at the world coloured in orange and sunset yellow. It was beautiful. She smiled looking at the people having their walk in the park behind and the children relieving their stress from all their studies. Letting out a slight laugh, she chidded herself. Children and stress don't really sit together. Does it? Well, that is what the world thought. Taking her last sip of tea, Krishna climbed down the window frame and walked towards the hall.
He house was forever empty. No, she wasn't an orphan. She had her parents and family. But ever since the age of 10, she stayed with her grandparents while her remaining family lived in Kerala. which consisted of her mother, father and 2 little brothers. Needless to say, they did not want her. Therefore, she was left with her grandparents as soon as she reached an age when she could live alone.
But she was too young to understand her parent's mindsets. They never wanted a daughter. They even tried abandoning her after she was born but only after her maternal grandparents insisted, they agreed to raise her until the age of 10 after which she was taken in by her grandparents. But, how long could two elderly people take care of her. Afterall, they too had a limit to their life. Now at the age of 22, she lives all alone in her rented apartment. Her parents never contacted her and once she reached the legal age, she legally removed her surname. Now she was just Krishna.
She glanced at the sarees that she needed to finish by the weekend. A small smile graced her lips at the thought of her friend cum sister, Pallavi. She remembered the day when she met her for the first time. They connected instantly. She knew how Mandaar was and always felt bad for the girl whom he would be marrying but the day she met Pallavi, she cursed fate to be so unjust to her. Pallavi was the purest of the souls she had ever met. Her smile was infectious and she was brutually honest.
Krishna was a slightly chubby yet a bubbly girl who could win everyone's hear with her cuteness. She had beautiful eyes with an innocent smile. She was calm and wise in making decisions. Just like Pallavi, she too was a strong willed and principled girl. But most importantly, she loved Pallavi and was fiercely protective of her and it was same the other side too. Pallavi too could go up to any lengths to protect her and safeguard her from all odds. They both were like best friends and sisters who defined their relation as that of a boss and her assistant. She was very loyal to Pallavi.
She remembered how clueless she was on her first day at the shop yet her eyes shone with strong determination. She tried knowing about each and every saree placed in the rack while Krishna explained her the differences between every fabric. She recalled how precisely she was recording the minute details. Ever since Mandaar had taken over the shop, Krishna wanted to resign but feared whether she would be able to get a new job. Thus, she continued in that shop reluctantly.
Only after Pallavi started working in the shop, did she give her 100% in work too. She religiously followed Pallavi and used to give her advices too. Both of them were like best friends to each other. Krishna always prayed to God for Pallavi's better future. Though she liked Nikhil, Milind and Sharda, but rest of the Deshmukhs did not deserve her specially, Vijay Uncle. He was an evil person.
No one could see behind his facade. He appeared all sweet and decent in front of the world but her was a very shrewd and manipulative. He got Mandaar married to Pallavi only to make him stay back in Hyderabad and work in the saree shop but his lad outsmarted him. He brought Pallavi as his daughter-in-law since he found her to be very simple and he just saw her as a person to help with household chores. She too thought very highly of him but the night before they left for the wedding, everything changed.
Flashback
Krishna had received the newly dyed sarees but since it was quiet late, she thought of dropping off the sarees at Deshmukh House. By the time she reached their house it was already 10 pm. Without wasting anymore time, she straightaway went inside and handed over the sarees to Nikhil and sat with Sharda for a while. They discussed about the new mall being constructed near their market and how challenging it would become for small shop owners. Sharda assured him that everything would be fine.
She showed her the final gifts before packing and was excited to het her new daughter. Though, Krishna felt disgusted at the thought of Mandaar marrying someone, made her want to puke but looking at Sharda Aunty's excitement, she too smiled. She got ready to leave when Nikhil asked her to help him pack a few gifts for his new Sister-in-law. One could tell how deeply he respected and loved his Sister-in-law. Krishna couldn't help but smile at him.
It was around 12:30 am when she finished packing the boxes. Hence, Sharda had asker her to stay back for the night. She was a wise girl and knew the dangers of roaming outside in the odd hours of night so she stayed back as per Sharda's advice. She was now staying in Manasi's room while she shared Amrutha's room as they had to prepare a dance for Pallavi's welcome. Mansi's room was adjacent to Mandaar's and so everything could be hear clearly from her washroom.
She went in to wash her face when she heard Vijay Deshmukh discuss something with Mandaar. At first she couldn't make out much but as soon as Pallavi's name was taken, her ears perked up,
"Dekh Mandaar, main jaanta hoon tu ye shaadi nahi karna chahta. Par Pallavi ek achi ladki hai. seedhi saadi hai, ghar ka kaam kaaj jaanti hai aur tujhe zyada pareshaan bhi nai karegi. Teri Aayi ab budhi hoti jaa rahi hai, Kaku teri koi kaam ni karti aur teri dono beheno ki to baat hi chor de. Pallavi ayegi to ghar ka kaam kaaj sambhaal legi. Varna faltu me mujhe naukrani ke piche paise kharch karne padeneg".
"To Pallavi iss ghar me naukrani ke haisiyat se ayegi?"
"Haan aur kya. Usme kon si aisi koi khasiyat hai jo bahar ka kuch sambhaal legi. Ghar ki murgi hai ghar me rahegi seva karegi kaam kaaj dekhegi ..bas aur kya".
Krishna was horrified listening to this. She just couldn't believe her ears. All the admiration and respect that she held for Vijay got washed off that night. She couldn't sleep at all. Next morning when she woke up, she found everyone getting ready for leaving. Vijay asked her also to join them but she denied as politely as she could without letting anyone know that she was faking it. Once outside the house, she could hear Vijay saying to everyone, "Arey bahu ko laane jana hai sab thora jaldi karo. Ab mujhe meri apni ek beti milne wali hai." A shiver ran down her body thinking how dangerous this man could be.
Flashback ends
The day Mandaar died, she felt something off but when Pallavi confided in her the truth of that letter, she was beyond shocked. Mandaar was alive, yet she had to live the life of a widow. Vijay suffered a heart attack and Pallavi had to handle the shop alone without any prior experience. Hence she vowed to stick to her till the very end of their lives and if possible, ever after that. She had her dinner and completed the bead work on a few sarees before praying to Venkateshwara to bring back happiness in Pallavi's life and let her be with her forever.
At Deshmukh house, Pallavi too prayed to Bappa for protecting Krishna from every odds and help her find a happy family. She also silently added her wish to remain with her forever on Bappa's to-do list.
Love,
Mihika❤️
Here I end Krishna's history by giving a glimpse of her bond with Pallavi. I am gonna go sleep after checking the notifications I have received till now. Will read your comments on this chapter tomorrow. So please share your criticisms as well.

All the characters have such heart breaking stories---thank god Krishna knows the reality of Vijay and Mandaar---she's such a strong lady----it's true when people say brightest smiles hide the greatest pain
