Hi everyone!!
Just recently subscribed Colors on TV and came across this show. Kinda got curious about it.
Could anyone just give me a gist of the show and also a small character sketch? It would be quite helpful to understand...
Thanks a lot...
Nikki
The story revolves around two sisters, who are each other's best friends and they look out for each other. One is young, Jasmine, and naive, which is to be expected since she has never had any real problems in life. She is a typical young, care free girl. She is immature, bratty but she has a spine and knows what she wants in life. She stands up for herself. She dreams of going overseas and lies to no one about it. Of course, it's not the world's worst dream, since millions of people share this dream. However, the problem is the writers really have not presented a good reason for her to be so obsessed with going to Canada since she has a great life in the Punjab. She comes off as strong though, capable of fighting back and standing up for herself.
The other sister is Tejo. She is older and pursues her studies. She wants to stay in the Punjab, which in itself is not good or bad. Emigration or staying in one's homeland is not a crime. She seems to be a busy body and a know it all, but this probably stems from the fact that she has horrible parents. Her mother only dreams of Canada and has burdened her daughters with this goal and the father is spineless, as he seems to stand back and pretends he can't do anything. He leans on Tejo, too much, which forces her to take responsibility she really shouldn't have to.
In the US, which is where I watch, Jasmine was shown as the lead of the show, but it looks like in India, Tejo is promoted as the lead. You can imagine, we don't think emigrating or dreaming of emigrating is a crime in the US, so maybe that's why Jasmine is presented as the lead here.
Then there is Fateh, who may be quite more devious than first presented. His sole goal in life is his obsession with Jasmine. In fact, his obsession with Jasmine is equally matched with Jasmine's obsession with Canada. However, Jasmine hurts no one with her crazy obsession but Fateh's obsession will result not only in the dissolution of the sisters' relationship (the real shame here) but frankly, breaking Jasmine's heart and trust. He knowingly withheld information that he did not get the job. His obsession is driven by one selfish need: to trap Jasmine, though in this show, that is being written as "love" and he is the hero. In real life, any guy who would obsess over a person he didn't even know, stalk her and ingratiate himself into her life and do go to any lengths to keep her (including lying), would be labelled as grounds for an FIR. Here in this show, it's a plot device to make Jasmine look bad for, you know, having a dream that, all 20 year olds have.
That's the show; thought a different perspective is required.
