Yeah, It would have been even better if both are in their senses.

Veer didn't remember who saved his father for sometime, but he remembered Baliya. So both can happen.

If he didn't remember, that disgusting Ranisa could use it against them as all were drunk except Rani I think. She can say whatever she wants and they will believe her.
