I personally believe in marriage 100%. Reason being that one of the primary purpose of marriage in our society is to have children. A marriage is legally enforceable and for the sake of the sanity of children and for the sake of giving them all the rights they are entitled to, it’s important to get married. I also believe marriage is sacred in that you admit before the world that you’re committed towards each other. And I’d like to emphasize that love and marriage are two different things completely. You can love someone and may not get married and you can marry someone but not be head over heels, as long as there’s mutual respect, understanding and you have similar principles in life and have similar goals.
Coming to live in, I’d not judge anyone because it’s a personal choice. I personally just don’t see how it works out in terms of building a stable family because to get out of it, scot free, is so much easier. What rights will the children have, both legally and in the respective family structures of the parents? Who will they turn to for justice? A stable family is very important to bring up healthy children and not that marriages can turn sour, they do, but live in is always like living on the edge.
Just my opinion. I also don’t believe marriages are made in Heaven. They are man made, to cultivate a culture of civilized union, and it must be worked on. It’s not magic, it’s not about soul mates (some get lucky) and sometimes it’s not even about love (again, some get lucky). But it’s all about respect, trust, understanding and building a good life together. Quite like love, if not love.
