Ahaan had a tinge of guilt when Ishqi left the mandap, declaring she does not want to get married to Mayank. He could not sleep the entire night with thoughts flashing his mind of the moments he shared with Ishqi. What was it that kept on bringing them closer all the time? He thought of the instances when he stood close to her, so close that one step forward would have let her breath stroke his face. Her breath, he pondered how ecstatic would it be to feel her breath brush his face like it is brushing away all his pain and agonies. After a brief moment of mind wandering, he came back to the reality and reprimanded himself to think of something like this. What was wrong with him, he thought.
His bestfriend's wedding has been broken and here he was thinking how it would feel to have his fiancé so close to him, or rather ex-fiance. Nevertheless, he was mad at Ishqi for doing what she did. He had asked her multiple times if there was something she wanted to express or if she wanted to get married to Mayank, nothing ever came out. So what happened on the night of the wedding? His mind wandered again to the night before her wedding, the night where he pinned her to the wall wanting to know her true feelings, if there were any.
What was I thinking? Or was I thinking at all? I pinned her to the wall for what? What was it that I wanted to hear from her? What would have I done had she said she had feelings for me? Did I have the right to be so close to her?
The questions jumbled him like anything and restlessness took over him. He wanted to talk to her, he had to.
Next Morning
The bell rang, Ishqi opened the door thinking Maasi was back home after picking up the groceries but was surprised to find Mr. AVM standing right in front. Her gut had a knot just thinking about the questions that he was going to bombard to her.
"Aap yaha kya kar rahe hai?" she asked.
He just looked at her with intimidating eyes.
"AVM agar aapko kuch bolna nai hai toh main jaau? Mujhe bahot kaam hai."
And as she was ready to leave, he grabbed her by her hand.
"What the hell was that Ishqi?" he shot his first bullet.
"What the hell is this AVM? Mera hath choriye."
"Listen to me Ishqi, you cannot escape without a proper answer. Tumhe idea bhi nahi hai tumne kya kia hai, Ishqi. You know what mujhe lagne laga tha main tumhe samajhne mein galat tha aur tum ek samajhdaar ladki ho, aisi ladki jo apne se zada dusre ke baare mein sochti hai. Jise dusro ka dard bina kahe samajh aata hai. But main fir galat tha. Tumne apni shaadi apne mandap pe tod di. How could you do this Ishqi? Do you have any idea Mayank ko kaisa laga hoga? Mayank ke mom dad ko kaisa laga hoga? What were you thinking Ishqi? "
"Hogaya? Ab mujhe jaane dijiye?"
She tried to leave but again, Ahaan held her hand and pulled her to him.
"I'm not going to leave you like that, Ishqi"
That was it, her patience was giving up. Mayank should be thankful that she only walked out of
the wedding without telling anyone, had Sonu not been so afraid, the man would know what it is to molest a girl.
"Chahte kya hai aap AVM? Haan maine shaadi tod di, haan main selfish hu. Aur aap mujhe 100 baar bhi uss situation mein rakhenge na main 100 baar wahi karungi jo maine kiya. "
"Ishqi, tumse ek raat pehle maine pucha tha ki.." he didn't know the right way to put it into words but he tried. "Maine tumhe pucha tha ki tumhe, mere liye..I mean..but tumne mana kia."
"Ek minute, ek minute. Aapko yeh kyu lagta hai ki iss duniya mein jo bhi horaha hai uski wajah aap hai? Aap Amrica ke president hai? AVM, please khud ko itni importance dena band kijiye. "
"Toh tum meri wajah se nahi..matlab.."
"Aapne yeh socha bhi kaise ki main aapke liye apne mandap se uth jaungi? Kyu uthungi main aapke liye apne mandap se? Ek aise insaan ke liye jo mujhe pyar toh kya pasand bhi shayad hi karta hai, jise harr waqt main galat lagti hu aur..jiski shaadi kisi aur se hone wali hai. "
He had nothing more to say. He felt embarrassed and a part of him disappointed. This is what she thought of him, she considered him unimportant in her life.
"Ishqi, tumhare paas bahot time tha tumhe aise shaadi ke mandap tak jaake shaadi nahi todni chahiye thi."
She smirked, "Toh aap kis ko lekar zada pareshaan hai? Maine shaadi todi isliye ya shaadi itni late kyu todi isliye?"
"Just shut up Ishqi" his eyes were filled with angst, how could she target him with truth he didn't want to accept.
" Maine shaadi kyu todi iska jawab main aapko dena zaruri nahi samajhti. Par haan aapko itna bata deti hu..ki iss shaadi tootne ki wajah aap nahi koi aur hai."
Koi aur hai. These were the only words he led his emphasis towards. It wasn't him. What did that mean? Is she in love with another man? No, he didn't want to believe it. Her heart started pouncing faster with the thought of this.
"You have a boyfriend?"
"Mera boyfriend ho ya girlfriend, isse aapko farak nahi padna chahiye. Aapko toh khush hona chahiye, aapke bestfriend ki shaadi tootne ki wajah aap nahi hai. Waise bhi aapne kaunsa mujhe bataya tha ki aapki ek girlfriend bhi hai. Khair, mujhe bahot kaam hai. Bye."
Ahaan stood there for a while not sure of how he was feeling at the moment. He was probably feeling every emotion he was not supposed to feel. As he walked to his cars, her words echoed in his ears.
Aapko toh khush hona chahiye, aapke bestfriend ki shaadi tootne ki wajah aap nahi hai.
To his surprise, he wasn't happy to know that. She is not in love with. He is not the reason she called off the wedding. It wasn't his care and his concern that became the reason. She probably didn't feel the same when he pinned her to wall and looked intensely into her eyes. Maybe she didn't feel the butterflies, everytime he had her so close to him. For a minute he wished to bring back the Ishqi who said her heart skips a beat every time she sees him, who wanted to stay in his arms and called it the best moment of her life. But he knew this time he would hold her closer to him so secure and tight that he would not let her go, and that would be the best moment of his life. He wished.
