Okay so here the Gujju in me is telling me that

Gujjus without sweets is like life without sweetness..

Thats why you find more diabetics in Gujjus..😆

I dedicate this thread solely to four wonderful women who inspired and influenced my culinary skills. They are the experts n I am not even a beginner.

My daadi, naani, mom and badi bua.

Kem chho badha?? ( How are you all??)

To chaalo / Aey Haalo tamne sahu ne hu lai jau ek meethas bharya safar par... ( So lets go, let me take you on this ride of sweetness)

1. Magas na laadu/ laddu

If you have visited any Krishna or Swaminarayan temple in Gujarat or anywhere in the world all you will get as a prasaad / offering is Magas na laadu..

Magas is basically course ground chickpea flour. A special magas atta..

It looks like besan laddu but somewhat different with a kurkura bite to it.

Image

2. Mysore paak..

Hmm a delicious delicacy full of ghee is Mysore paak..

Tastes yum but keep check on your calories...

Image

3.Sukhdi/ Gol Papdi

This sweet I have eaten all my life.. Basically made with 3 ingredients ghee, whole wheat flour, jaggery..

My daadi used to make it best..She taught me too. But her recipe was secret and I forgot half of the ingredients 😂

She used to add spices that gives your body heat and boosts your immunity system like soonth( ginger powder) , gond ( edible gum ) n some other spices..

Whenever I feel like to eat I demand daadi to make me sukhdi.. Telling her " Baa ( granny) , please make me some sukhdi.." ...I used to eat garma garam sukhdi straight from the platter..

My Daadi must be smiling at me from Heaven.

Image

4. Kopra Paak

This recipe I have shared on another thread,,, a Diwali staple sweet at our house..n my mum makes it best..

Made with desiccated coconut, khoya (mawa) , sugar..cardamom n yes saffron..
Tastes amazing..

Image

5. Sing Paak (Peanut Barfi)

This is also one of the sweet I used to ask my grandma to make for me..

Made with ground peanuts, jaggery and ghee..

N if by mistake you make jaggery cook for some longer time it will become like a stone n break your teeth..

A secret..I loved the kadak version more than the softer one..😆

Image

6. Biranj

My daadi and bua makes it best. I am not fan of this but once in a while do have it.

Image

7. Churma na laadu..

Not a single Ganesh chaturthi goes without these delicious laddus.. Churma na laadu with khas khas on it. Made with either jaggery or sugar.. uff my favorite I could eat 2 at a time. A very heavy n makes you sleep at an instant after lunch 😆

Image

8. Halvasan

A sweet gooey delicious sweet from Khambhat region of Gujarat.

Image

9. Sutarfeni

This is also a specality of khambhaat.. Sugary sweet hair like sweet.. name itself says sutar means cotton thread like.

My dad used to bring this and halwasan especially from Khambhaat.

N now for NRI gujjus the first sweet shop opened at Ahmedabad airport sells this.. Duty free shopping. Don’t miss to try it.

Image

10. Ghaari..

A Surti speciality.. Ghaari . I have tried it once or twice.

It is also included in a garba song..😂😂

Hey Ori aave to tane vaat kahu khaangi

( If you come near let me tell you a secret)

Tu garam masaledar khaati meethi vaangi,

( You are like a spicey , sweet and sour delicacy)

Vaal tara Khambhaat ni sutarfeni,

( Your hair is like Khambhaat’s sutarfeni)

Gaal tara Surat ni ghaari

( your cheeks are like Surat’s ghaari)

Hey Rajkot na penda jevi,

Chhori tu kamangaari..

( Hey , just like Rajkot city’s famous penda your are a gorgeous young woman)

Image

11. Badaam puri

My bua is a pro at making these. N she never shares her recipe 😆

Image

12. Baklava

The sweet form the Middle East has my heart. I love the roasted pistachios and walnuts in these sweet diamonds shaped sweet ..

The best I had here in Michigan and New York..❤️

Image

Okay the next two sweets are actually more on the healthier sides. Like a energy bar/ balls during winter it makes your immune system stronger.
These both items are specility of saurashtra region of Gujarat.

13. Kachariyu

This sweet is made with black sesame seeds/ white sesame seeds, jaggery and dried coconut shreds.

It gives you instant energy, full of protein, vitamins and iron.

My daadi used to make it with sesame seeds especially brought from Saurashtra.

Image

14. Adadiya paak

This is a desi protein bars for us gujjus. Made with Urad flour and spices which boosts your immune system during winter times..

Image

15. Kuler

This is my absolute favorite made during Shitala saatam ( A day before janmashtami) pooja as offering to the deity.
Made with Bajra ( millet ) flour, ghee and jaggery.

An iron rich sweet.

Image

Hence I rest my sweet tooth here.. I had few more sweets in the list but the pics were not uploaded on imgur hence I chose these.

Mohanthal is out of the list deliberately let out for Soni..😆😉

I have had most of these

10th dish k baad ke nahi try kiye lekin

Jo kiye hai Woh ghar pe hi khaye hai mostly

After the item 10 most of them are belong to Saurashtra region n its more over the healthy sweets types which we have during cold winters. Mumbai mein koi nahi khaayega 😆

Yeah video call your naanu n take the recipe 👍🏼

I wish I could call my grandparents . I regret not being around them or talk with them.

Yeah whenever you tell aunty to make the kopra paak don’t forget to share pic here 😆👍🏼🙌🙌

Thank you Rado.

The Orange Halwa is also called Bombay Halwa and it comes in different colors. All you need to add is different food colors to get the desired colour.😊

You are right, Bobbatlu is pooran poli. There is another dish which is made out of the same stuffing dipped in concentrated Dosa dough and deep fried. It is a round sweet.

Double Ka Meetha is very famous Hyderabadi dish.

Cheers.....

Baklava you can find in high end stores or restaurants possibly.

Its a very famous middle eastern recipe made with phylo dough sheets , lots of roasted nuts mostly walnuts ans pistachios n honey n butter 😋😋 ( lagti ekdum khaari biscuit jaisi hai with so many layers)

Kuler is also easy in making just mix bajri flour with ghee and jaggery n make laddus.. ❤️
