Chapter 1:

She opened her eyes slowly even as she heard hard knocks on the door. Completely disoriented, she just sat up. The loud knocks which initially seemed distant began to suddenly increase its frequency. She looked around still trying to figure out what's happening and come out of the daze which seemed to have engulfed her .

"Sai! Sai! Open the door!" a voice shouted from out concerned.

"Aayi?" she called out confused.

"How can Aayi be here?"

"Sai! What's wrong beta? Open the door!" Ashwini's care and concern filled voice reached her ears yet again.

"Leave it Ashwini Mami! Why are you so concerned about her? You come with me." Pakhi's voice was the next thing she heard.

"No! No! She's my Aayi! Pakhi Didi, she's my Aayi! You can't take her away from me!" Sai frantically said, getting up from the floor.

"Come Ashwini Mami, come with me. She dosen't deserve you!"

"No Aayi! Don't leave me and go! Don't listen to her! And Pakhi Didi, what more do you want from me? I have given whatever was rightfully mine to you! Why are you snatching my Aayi from me?" Sai said and ran towards the door. She tried to unlock it but just couldn't as the handle wouldn't budge at all!

"Okay Pakhi, I'll go with you"

"Aayi?? What are you saying? Why are you going with Pakhi Didi? You ...you are my A-Aayi right? And why are you calling her Pakhi?"

"Come Pakhi, let's go!" Sai heard Ashwini's voice tell this and she began to panic. She frantically tried to open the door but to no avail.

"Aayi!! Aayi!!" she called out even as she put her entire force in opening the door. The door finally opened and she rushed out breathing heavily. Her eyes wide with fear and her body trembling. At the end of the corridor she saw a happy Pakhi hugging Ashwini and Ashwini caressing her hairs with affection. The sight made her heart clench in pain. Another person had chosen Pakhi over her! She had lost another loved one!

"Aayi.....(crying) d-dont l-leave me....Aayi....come back...Aayi...."

"I'm not the one who has left you Sai. You are the one who left me! You are the one who decided to leave me and go to Bangalore. You are the one who chose this opportunity over your Aayi. You like all the people in my life, chose your selfishness over me. So why should I chose you now?" Ashwini's mocking voice rang in her ears.

"N-no Aayi! I dint chose this over you! I dint.."

"You did!"

"I dint!

"You did!"

"I dint! I dint!"

"You did!"

"I DINT AAYI! I DINT!" Sai screamed as she woke up with a jerk. Sweating and panting heavily, she looked around disoriented. It was still dark outside.

Sai sat back against the pillow and drank some water from her bottle. Tears slipped down her eyes carelessly. These nightmares weren't new to her. But they were usually about her Aaba and Jagtap. But never had she seen a nightmare about Virat Sir's mother aka her Aayi. What did this nightmare mean? What did it symbolise?

"Aayi!" she whispered even as more tears rolled down her eyes.

She had come here not just because it was a good opportunity for her professionally. She hadn't come here because his family excluding a few did not accept her and kept taunting and rebuking her. She had come here because it was easier to cut off in the beginning. She had thought she had to be his deal wife just for 5 years and then she would move out of this marriage. But what she hadn't anticipated was her hold over her emotions would slip this way! Letting go felt so difficult at this stage. But she knew, 5 years later she wouldn't be able to leave. So its better to nip whatever this is in the bud!

True due to her Aaba's demise she felt her world tumble and control over her sanity slip. But she let it come out only in the dark silences of night. In daylight, she was just the same Sai Joshi, maybe just a little less chirpy and lively.

But there was one more reason she had decided to come here. She dint want to be anyone's responsibility anymore. She dint want to be someone's deal wife anymore. What she actually wanted to be - she wouldn't even accept it to herself because the answer meant something which could never happen - love for him!
