So finally I am back with the last part of the story.. It's not little long but the longest chapter I have ever written..😆

Part - 2

Admist the black night, came the faint light of the moon from her window along with the cold winds from the nearby mountains. And Bondita sat alone in her bed with tear strained face, slowly taking in the new surrounding, a new life, a new phase and of course a step close towards her dream. This is what she has wanted and him too. But they didn't wanted it like this, never in their wildest dreams. And with these thoughts fresh tears again trickled down her cheeks and then she got up from the bed and moved towards her luggage and opening her bag she brought a small box out of it.

Nothing much but the box had a little mirror in it, a pair of sankhapola, a sindoor box, a photo frame and yes a letter also. She roamed her fingers on all the things inside it and then she opened the letter, technically it was his first letter to him, the one he had written on her haldi day. He didn't knew her at that time but still wanted to help her, his dream of bringing change. And then she smiled as she was with him in all this. They both fulfilled his dream though a little of it. Many more milestones were there to reach. And then she took the photo of them, in the barrister robe and unknowingly she touched her head in the photo where adorned her, were the sindoor. She wanted to be a barrister, but Barrister Bondita Roy Choudhury not Barrister Bondita. And she cried hugging the photo.

But it is always said man proposes and God disposes. Not every dreams are to be fulfilled.

She gently caressed her patibabu's face and smiling kept the photo on her table and wiping her tears she got up to arrange her things in her new room, that was going to be her room for the next 5 years of her life..

Days passed and so did months and years. Anirudh and Bondita used to write to each other asking about each other's well being and most of the letters were about the studies. Bondita would write to him about her school, her friends, her teachers, her hostel and in return he would tell about his works in the village and some of his intresting cases. But when he would ask if he would go to meet her, Bondita would deny. It was just the letters that connected Bondita and her Barrister Babu.

Bondita had topped in all her exams making Anirudh elated. And then she topped too again in her last exam in Dalhousie and also got a scholarship for further studies in London. This news spread in the Tulsipur village and the Roy Choudhury family felt proud not for their bahu but yes for their daughter. Anirudh was roaming like a happy kid, dancing, even he distributed sweets in the whole village.

But unaware to all the happenings, Bondita was sitting in her room deep in thoughts. Yes she topped and as her guardian school informed him first. But she didn't knew whether to be happy or sad. Happy to have reached close to her dream or sad for leaving her country. But above that she wanted to see his reaction as past memories flooded her mind how he was dancing with joy when she had pronounced the barnamala for the first time. She smiled with this. But the thought of meeting him after 5 years surely put her heartbeats racing. Because she was sure he would come otherwise who would complete all her formalities.

Bondita had packed all her bags ready to leave Dalhousie to her new destination, London. Principal had informed, her family is coming to take her from hostel to drop her on the seaport and she wondered who was coming.

Anirudh was all ready to leave for Dalhousie. And at the breakfast table he was asking who was going to join him to meet Bondita and with teary eyes kaka replied, "hum sa na ho payega beta phir se usse humari ankho se dur jate hue dekhna.." and his two brothers too said, "hum se bhi nehi dada.." and understanding their feelings Anirudh nodded sadly when shocking him Binoy said, "mein jaunga tumhare sath Anirudh." kaka smiled and confused Anirudh left to bring the car before he change his decision again.

On there way Anirudh looked at his baba who was sitting beside him on set to meet Bondita and he was still wondering why and how.

Then he remembered something and touched his pocket and was relieved that it was there. And he remembered his conversation with Sumati day before. After getting a call from the principal to come Anirudh had gone to meet Sumati to ask her to accompany him but she denied. Saying, "Anirudh babu dil pe pathar rakh ke mene usse woh Dalhousie bheja tha par mein chain se thi kyuki uska sara dekh bhaal aap kar rahe the..aap k rehete mujhe meri beti ki koi chinta nehi hoti..par ab mujhme itni himmat nehi ki apni beti ko dariya paar chodne jaun..Aap baas ye dhaga usse dedena kehna uski maa ka ashirvaad humesha uske saath hai.." and with this she had given him the string that was now safe in his pocket.

They reached their destination and with a errated heartbeats Anirudh moved inside the gate to meet his Bondita after five long years. He didn't knew how would be she looking, but she won't be that 13 years old little Bondita now but a 18 years old girl. He was confused about how to start a conversation with her?? What would they talk?? In letter it was different, even their talks was also limited to some exact stufs. And now when he was wondering what to do, he felt a hand on his shoulder and it was non other than his baba who was looking at him and asked him, "kya hua Anirudh ruk kyu gaye jana nehi hai kya andar??" and sensing his nervousness he patted his back and saying,"sab thik ho jayega.." asked him to move forward and Anirudh relaxing a little followed him.

The warden informed Bondita that, her family members are here and she thought who has come with him and she hoped, it wouldn't be all otherwise it would be difficult for her to go and nervous she moved out of her room and found "him" standing and beside him was her sasurji no it is Binoy uncle.

They both looked at each other and their eyes showed pain. Bondita wanted to run to him to hug him tight, instead controlling her emotions she plastered a smile and moved towards them.

Anirudh was unable to blink his eyes looking at the white fairy in front of him. Dressed in a simple off-white salwar kameez, her long tresses pleated in a pleat, face deprived of any makeup, even there wasn't a line of kohl under her eyes still she looked ethereal. And Anirudh wondered how can someone look this beautiful even being this simple.

And he gazed at her face more closely now. Nothing has changed, her face is still the same but just the chubbyness in her cheek was gone and yes she had gained height. And then he noticed the kangans in her hand and a smile crept in his lips automatically..as he remembered kaka's word few days after she was gone. And it didn't took him a minute to recognise it's his dadi's kangan.

Bondita looked at her Barrister babu dressed like he always used to, but now he looked more manly with the beards and also the specs and she smiled thinking specs is making him look the the perfect sikhshsk babu.

But their thoughts were broken by Binoy who came to Bondita and asked her, "kaisi ho Bondita???" and that's when Bondita coming out of her thoughts touched his feet who blessed her smiling. And then Anirudh forward his hand towards her and said smiling, "congratulations topper Bondita..I am proud of you like always."
And Bondita too replied with a smile,"thank you barrister babu"

But current passed through both's hand with touch. It was different and it was new. Unwillingly they took their hands away from each other smiling gently.

Then Anirudh and Binoy accompanied by Bondita headed to the principal's office to complete the formalities.

Binoy started talking with principal and asked them both to go to hostel to fetch Bondita's belongings and they both obliged.

An awkward silence prevailed as they both moved towards the hostel. And to break it asked Anirudh, "apna sara saman pack karliya hai naa..aur kuch chuta toh nehi?? Aur London jane kliye sab kuch kharid liya hai??" and she nodded her head saying, "principal sir ne kaha tha hostel k mam ko aur woh mujhe bazaar leke gayi thi sab kuch kharidwane.." Anirudh nodded with a smile and then asked again, "jyada kapde le ayi naa..London ja rahi ho toh wahan toh turant kuch kharid nehi sakti toh sare zarurat mand ka saman hai naa?? haan aur sweeters layi ki nehi bahut thand hai na wahan??" And Bondita nodded her head and smiling at his concern said, "aap fikar mat kijiye Barrister babu sab layi hun mein aur packing bhi ache se hogayii ab baas port tak pahnchna hai.."
And by that time they reached her hostel and they together carried her bags and headed towards the car.

Keeping all the luggages Bondita was about to move towards principal's office when Anirudh called her from behind and hesitating a little moved towards her with a little box. And forwarding said, "yeh ek chota sa tofa tumhare liye" and Bondita took the box with a questioning gaze and opened to reveal a beautiful watch and Bondita's lips curled into a smile seeing it. And seeing her face Anirudh said, "soch raha tha tumhare liye kya lun.. phir laga London mein Bondita 5 saal purani ghadi thodi pehenegi toh yeh laya.."

Bondita smiled at him with glassy eyes as their past came infront of her eyes and she forwarding her hand towards him and said, "ab laye hain toh pehna dijiye Barrister babu" and Anirudh obliged smilingly. And tieing the watch in her hand, wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes remembering the same memories.

Ladiya sara samman", came Binoy's voice from who was standing there with principal. And biding a painful goodbye to her school Bondita sat in the car for her upcoming journey.

Now it was time for Bondita to fly. To complete the dream they both had seen together. There was fear, nervousness but still there was hope, confidence and a determination because she knew behind her was her pati..Barrister babu to protect her, to support her.

She turned and moved towards with a confidence smile and bending touched his feet saying, "baas ab ye akhri padhab ko paar karne kliye ashirvaad dedijiye mujhe Barrister babu." and Anirudh with a sense of proudness blessed her. Binoy smiled looking at both of them and then Bondita moved towards him to touch his feet and blessing her he brought something out of his pocket and forwarded her a box. Bondita took it and opening it found a beautiful fountain pen. Anirudh too smiled, astonished. And Bondita said gently, "thank you Binoy uncle" and Binoy looking at her said, "jab tum da ko kaka bula sakti ho to mujhe baba kyu nehi?? Ye uncle?? mein paraya hun kyaa?? Tum toh meri beti jaisi ho.." Bondita looked at him shocked and with teary eyes uttered,"baba.." and smiling he hugged her saying," aaj se sirf da ki nehi tum meri bhi ladli ho" and Anirudh adored them standing. Then he went to Bondita and forwarded her the string saying, "ab ye lo maa ka ashirvaad..beti ko bida karna mushkil tha isliye baas ashirvaad bhej diya" and saying this he tied the string in her hand and she caressed it gently remembering her maa.

With tears in everyone's eyes she moved towards the shore where the ship was standing waiting for her but this time before leaving she turned to get one glimpse of her barrister babu, her sansar. Who in return waved his hands towards her with a smile.

This time the goodbye wasn't painful but it held confidence of achieving their dream soon.

The 3 years were tough for Bondita. In the start it was difficult for her to adjust in the new environment but then she succeeded and there was no looking back. The occasional letters from Anirudh and family and her maa always motivated her. But she always maintained a strong personality around and thus her competitors too were scared of her. She grew to be a strong and independent girl. And being a Indian also the aurra she carried around herself made everyone proud of her.

Tulsipur too witnessed many changes in these years, Anirudh was not only a barrister now but a social reformer too, he tried different measures to help the women of his amd the nearby villages. And thanks to Bondita also who would help him writing words of support. He was successful in establishing public toilets for women in many villages because challenging the patriarchal society the women too stood for a change. Girls also started going to school and the illiterate women in the village too tried their ways in making handicrafts to earn. And that's when Anirudh established the "durga shakti mahila grihadoya" again. And women joined in many numbers to make garments.

This was a change, a change towards independence and both Anirudh and Bondita were happy as well as proud seeing their dreams getting successful.

One more thing happened in the year was, Som's marriage. The girl Raavi was the daughter of a zamidaar friend of kaka and when he kept the proposal kaka happily agreed. Anirudh shared this news with Bondita who in turn sent one different letter for Som congratulating him for the marriage.

Soon the last wait was over, 3 years passed pretty soon, Bondita topped in the university as expected. And finally she was not any ordinary girl for India and calcutta, she was Barrister babu Bondita. The whole village was dancing with joy and Anirudh's happiness knew no bounds. Finally he did it, they did it. The reason for which he was living was successful now.

But little did he knew this was not the only reason he was living, there was more.. His hand was eager to hold her hand and this time forever.

Bondita didn't told Anirudh anything about her return because she wanted to surprise him. She reached her home and everyone welcomed her happily her maa, thakumaa, her chachiji, all.
Having met everyone and gobbling all the delicious food made for her she headed out. Whatever may have changed but one thing was same. She was still a big foodie.

Anirudh was with all the village women, working when he was shocked to see Bondita standing infront of him.

Though there was a lot of change but it was not difficult for Bondita to reach Tulsipur and see their dream place. The house that was once turned into ashes stood again proud with a board that read, DURGA SHAKTI MAHILA GRIHADOYA. Bondita smiled at it and entered happily. Though everyone knew her by her name but nobody recognised her by her face and when she asked someone about Anirudh, they took her to him without knowing who she actually was.

For Anirudh he felt like he was dreaming on seeing Bondita, he couldn't believe his eyes and without paying heeds to what the women were asking him he moved towards Bondita not averting his gaze from her even for a second. And reaching he asked still in shock, "Bondita ye sach mein tum ho ya mein koi sapna dekh raha hun..tum wapas kab ayi aur mujhe bataya kyu nehi??“ Bondita smiled and said,"isliye toh nehi bataya apko surprise jo dena thaa.." And smiled at him.

And again he was lost in her simplicity. This time she was not in dress, but saree. Draped in a simple cotton pink saree in the normal style, hairs again in pleats, and this time a black bindi in her forehead and the kangans in her wrist, she didn't look girly anymore but womanly. A bit more mature, still beautiful.

Then she noticed Anirudh who was dressed in a simple navy blue kurta paired with white trousers, the specs, the beards everything made him look like a social leader. Long ago Anirudh discarding his shirts and suspenders for daily wears opting for kurta. And he even looked more handsome in this, thought Bondita.

Anirudh then happily showed her everything, made her meet everyone who were beyond happy on meeting the girl who was always there inspiration. And that's when Bondita said him, "barrister babu mein bhi ab hardin yahan ana chahti hun aap ke sath milkar ye sab kaam karne aur case k bare mein bhi madad mil jayegi..." Anirudh nodded his head and said with a gentle smile, "ye sab mene akele nehi kiya hai aur nahi ye mera akele ka sapna thaa..yeh sab hum dono ne kiya hai..tum meri himmat thi Bondita" and she adored him more this time. And then holding his hand said with a smile, "humne kar dikhaya Barrister babu" and keeping his hand on her he said with a wide smile, "haan Bondita"

Dur hai par tera saya hai mujhpe, Jane kyu bharosa hai tujhpe, Mein nasamjh gyani hai tu, Mein dhul hun asmaan tu, Mein hun is mitti se bilayati babu hai tu, Phir bhi mil hi jayenge mile jsise saanjh savera, Tu paraya hokar lagta apna saa, Rishta tera mera....

This time they didn't care what the society would think. It didn't matter to them. They held each other's hand smiling. Now the brain had completed its work and it was time for the heart to pour all it's emotions, that was hidden since years..

Then Anirudh asked her, "ghar nehi chalogi Bondita sab se milne??" but looking at the dusk falling she said, "ab toh andhera hona wala hai maa raha dekh rahi hogi..mein kaal chalungi aap k sath milne sabse" and Anirudh nodded his head. But then he was thinking something, he has to make Bondita meet her.

The next day Bondita reached early to join him and help him with the work. They were talking when a man entered and Anirudh welcomed him taking him to Bondita and said smiling, "inse milo Bondita..ye hai mera dost dr. Subhojit Banarjee..janta hun kabhi bataya nehi hai iske baare mein patra mein, kyuki mein tumhe isse direct milana chahta tha..bahut khaas dost hai mera aur mere tarah ek samaj sevak.." Bondita smiling folded her hands in namoskar and he folding his said,"barrister babu har din sunta hun aapke bare mein ab jake mila mein aapse.." and that's when Bondita saw a little boy standing beside him and taking him in his arms he said smiling, "yeh mera beta hai Sourabh.." And then looking at Sourabh he said,"beta namste karo maasi ko" who obliged soon and Bondita caressed his cheek. Subhojit then said to Bondita, "mein apko meri patni se milwana chahta hun yehi bahar khadi hai.. Bulata hun usse.."Bondita smiling said," haan bulayi ye na unhe, mujhe bahut khusi hogi unse milke" and then nodding he called, "Sampoorna aao" hearing the name Bondita was shocked and she was even more shocked seeing the lady entering. And she wondered how can this happen?? She looked at Subhojit and the boy in his arms and then towards the lady, her didi who was coming slowly holding her belly, she was pregnant.

And she looked at Anirudh with wide eyes not believing what was happening around. Anirudh nodded his head and gestured her to look towards Sampoorna who was now standing infront of her with tears in her eyes. She was not dressed in jewels but was in a simple saree and simple jewelleries and her eyes didn't hold pride but guilt. And breaking the silence said Sampoorna, "ese kya dekh rahi hai gale nehi lagaegii apni sampoorna didi ko?? ab karde naa puri apni adhuri khawis.." And this time crying hard she said," ek aakhri baar maaf karde apni sampoorna didi, apni is nasamjh behen ko.. yaa ab tak tu mujhse nafrat.." But before she could compete her sentence Bondita hugged her. And both sisters cried their heart out. And then Sampoorna told her how she felt bad with her words that night and seeing her leave she realised her mistake and asking forgiveness from everyone for her deeds, decided to leave the house. This time she wanted to be independent, to learn music and fulfil her dream. And Anirudh helped her in pursuing it. And then in a welfare function she met Subhojit who fell in love with her and when sampoorna revealed her past, he accepting it married her. All the Roy Choudhury family had joined in her marriage and from then Anirudh and Subhojit became bestfriends. Then looking at Sourabh in Subhojit's arms she said, "ye mera beta,Sourabh aur ye naam bhi Subhojit ne hi rakha hai.." Bondita smiled, finally her didi got the perfect life partner and her patibabu one more friend and inwardly she thanked the soul of her Sourabh jamai babu. Then touching sampoorna's belly she asked, "kitna mahina??" and she replied blushingly, "paanch.." and Bondita once again hugged her happily. And then Sampoorna too asked Bondita about her wellbeing. And the sisters talked their heart after ages. Bondita got to know Sampoorna not only has learned music but also now is a music teacher in the nearby school.

Biding bye to Sampoorna she came to Anirudh and said, "aap aaj ghar lenge naa mujhe.. Kab jana hai??" and Anirudh replying her question said, "woh kaal durga puja ki shurwat hai naa.. Toh kaka chahte hain ki unki durga, durga puja k din hi ghar jaye.. Woh chahte hain ki tum wahan ruko puja ki shuruwat mein..aur mujhe kaha hai tumse puchne kliye.. Tum aogi naa Bondita?? " he asked with a hope. He was scared if she would deny. But clearing his doubt she said,"jarur aungi barrister babu."

Visiting to home during durga puja, he knew it would be painful for her, the one who used to do all the arrangements will be vising only as a guest. But then he wondered does it still affect Bondita or has she moved on from the past. And looking at her he thought may be she has. She is only 21.. She has a life ahead and there won't be any problem in finding a good guy for her but imagining his Bondita away from him pained him and don't know what made him but he asked her suddenly, "shaadi kab kar rahi ho Bondita" shocking her to the core. She looked at him with big eyes not understanding why this question suddenly popped and why the hell he wanted her to marry. And she replied, "ye kaisa sawal puch liya aapne Barrister babu??" and she went from there.

The next day Bondita reached and situation was a litte awkward for them but forgetting the incident they got lost in each other. Anirudh was dressed in a white dhoti and white kurta that had tiny thread works of red in it. And Bondita was wearing a white saree having thick red border paired wirh a red elegant blouse, her hairs were half open and this time there was a red bindi in her forehead and small jewelleries too adorned her along with the kangan. Anirudh was lost in her beauty, he was seeing her in bengali look after ages and it surely took his breath away.
Anirudh then smiling said, "aaj toh tum ekdum durgamaa bank ayi ho" and Bondita replied, "apne hi kaha tha naa kaka ko apni durga se milna tha, toh mein sach mein durga ban k chali ayi" and she laughed at her own joke, making anirudh lost in her laughter.

The reached home and all the Roy Choudhury members circled around her. Everyone was eager to meet her and so was she. It was actually a emotional reunion though all were closed through letters but meeting face to face was also different and greeting everyone she moved towards Raavi and hugged her. Talking to her in letters Bondita had seen her as her younger sister always. But looking at her Bondita's eyes moistened, she was exactly dressed the way, Bondita used to dress 8 years ago. But masking her smile she asked kaka to start the puja. And kaka forced Bondita to do the aarti along with Raavi and she couldn't deny his request.

Durga stotra filled the atmosphere and it felt as if the good old days would soon be back in the mansion.

The puja was over and all youngsters were indulged in their talks when kaka came and called Anirudh and Bondita to study stating he has something important to talk to both. And thus they both followed him.

They both sat in front of kaka but noticing his serious expressions they got scared. And breaking their thoughts kaka started to speak looking at Bondita, "tumhe yaad hai na beta tumhare jane k peheli raat maine tumse kya kaha tha.." and Bondita not getting what he was referring to said, "kangan toh pehne hai na maine kaka.." But then nodding his head in a no he again said,"maine kaha tha naa ki mein Dugga mein se yehi dua mangunga k woh mujhe mauka de tumhe phir se dulhan bana kar is haveli mein lane ko.." and then Bondita recalled his words.. At that time she really didn't take those words seriously but now she understood what he was referring to. And scared of Anirudh's reaction she looked towards him and yes he was glaring at kaka and then he started his shouting, "kaka aap humesha ese bakwas batein kyu karte hain mujhe koi shaadi nehi karni aur Bondita kyu karegi mujhse shaadi?? Uske liye bahut ache ladke mil jayenge kaka sirf 21 ki hai woh.."And angrily he asked," kya Roy Choudhury parivaar Bondita ko sirf bahu k roop mein hi apnayehmgaa beti ki tarah nehi??" and kaka too replied him angrily, "meri baat ka ulta mtlab kyu nikal rahe ho tum?? Bondita humesha meri beti rahegi samjhe tum.. Is ghar ki bahu se jyada me chahata hun Bondita tumhari patni bane..kyuki tum dono ek dusre k bina adhure ho..Ye risha dugga maa ne joda hai.. Haan manta hun samaj ki wajah se tum dono ne ye rishta toda thaa..Par ab to na hi samaj ka dar hai aur nahi umar ki koi dayare.." "umar ki dayare hai kaka",said Anirudh in the same anger tone," 10saal choti hai Bondita mujhse, woh ek 30 saal ki admi se saadi kyu karegi.."

But seeing Anirudh objecting taking her name she snapped back at him, "agar apko taklif hai naa is rishte se toh mere naam kyu le rahe hai??" and Anirudh asked angrily, "ab maine esa kya kehe diya??" and Bondita replied with the same tone,"kya umar umar laga rakha hai tabse..??" Kaka saw their argument getting heated up and got up saying,“Tum dono apna jhagda khatam karke bahaar ajana aur mujhe batana kya faisla liya..mein ja raha hun.." And he left the study leaving them both alone.

And Anirudh looking at Bondita again asked," kya kehe rahi thi tum?? Kya kiya maine??" and then Bondita said in anger,"Saadi apko nehi karni naa toh ye kyu kehe rahe hain Bondita saadi nehi karegi..Ye kahiye naa ki Anirudh Roy Choudhry ek 21 saal ki ladki se saadi nehi karega..Mere naam kyu le rae bahe??" And getting up angrily she said, "mein ja rahi hun aap ko jo karna hai kariye"

And thats when her words hit him and holding her hand from behind he too got up and said, "mujhe toh koi taklif nehi hai..Par tumhe manjoor hai mujhse saadi karna???" and Bondita looking at him angrily said,"aap ko toh thik se propose bhi karna nehi ata.." And Anirudh looked at her shocked.. Propose, did she really say that.

Thats when she sided her hairs in middle partition and Anirudh was shocked to see sindoor.. She smiled with tears and said, "janta hun humne rishta toda tha..Par ye sindoor ko mein nehi mita paii..8 saal se isse laga rahi hun mein, sabse chhupa kar..Kyuki aap toh humesha mere patibabu rahenge..mein humesha se Bondita Roy Choudhury thi" and wiping her tears she said, "Barrister Bondita Anirudh Roy Choudhury" And Anirudh adored her. This girl never fails to surprise him and standing close to her, he cupped her cheeks with both his palms and asked her,"pehele kyu nehi bataya mujhe?? " and she said, “tab himmat nehi thi..socha aap dantenge..Par ab mein kissi se nehi darti.." and he said laughing," woh toh dikh raha hai." and in return he got a smack from her.

This time without any hesitation he opened his arms for her and she hugged him happily and he tightened his hold. The fitted each other like the puzzle that fell in place.

Noticing the silence kaka was worried for them and so were the other members who were now gathered outside the study. And on opening the door, greeted them the most beautiful sight.. The couple were in each other's arms as if the solace they were searching from years, finally found it.

They both finally succeed in giving all test of life. And in reward life tied them both together forever, never to let them go from each other.

If caging you in my arms after ages would bring this much solace, then I won't mind letting you go for once..
