So when navratri ends (both chaitra and the one before Diwali), my mum traditionally prepares a massive feast, to which friends and family are invited. Over the years it's whittled down somewhat and the last few years it's just been us, but she makes like three kinds of daal, all from traditionally pahadi regions like Himachal etc. And she makes this delicious tangy mahni to accompany the daals. I swear I could eat a whole bowl of that mahni on its own with rice best thing in the world. I'm looking forward to that in about a week 😆

I'm questioning all the food I have had up until now to think if it was sweet 😆. I guess most popular dishes have a sweetness to it. I suppose even the khatti daal had a sweet tase to it. But I suppose it balances out. Not to mention most of the Gujrati dishes we have is kinda tweaked and not 'truly authentic' I suppose. I like sweets but too sweet is not my thing either. Still love my desserts.
Wouldnt you find some variation of these packaged pickles in asian stores there Arshi? There are soem from China too I believe. Most popular those made from dried lemon or mango.

Oh yes, probably. We have homemade acchars atm so I can make do with those for now but will def keep an eye out for the dried variety...
