So did 80% of the team 🤷🏽‍♀️

Yup ... there are plenty of people willing to put their heads down and be good worker bees but that's not what gets respect and recognition at work... unless you're a real genius, which most of the people are not. I think delivering quality work and overselling it are both equally important. You can't charm your bosses and take extra liberties but suck at what you do.

Yes, it’s also about the branding. Coca Cola won’t be Coca Cola without the branding; it will be just plain syrup with soda water. And placement, meeting and socialising with the right people is also very important.

Coca Cola is the same Coca Cola everywhere, but there’s a difference between Coca Cola sold on the street and Coca Cola sold in a five star hotels. Coca Cola in five star hotels get exposure, privilege, and environment to make it much more valuable.

Also, as much as buttering or networking are sometimes looked down upon. Should we begrudge those who are good at it? The people who do it put in effort for the buttering and networking to be recognised; some things that some people won’t or incapable of doing. Of course sometimes this becomes a problem when an incapable person gets the promotions and can’t do no shiz. However, it is still the effort by the said person.

I fully agree that it's about your personal brand at work... which takes a lot of consistent effort to build and maintain over time. Business acumen, interpersonal relationships and technical capabilities go together with it cuz you can't win votes of confidence at work without those. Even Coke is so popular because it tasted good on top of everything else. Doesn't it have a secret formula it never reveals? 😆

Schmoozing with people also has to be done with some class ... you can't be so slimy and obvious that people see right through it and don't respect you at all. Building relationships with managers definitely comes effortlessly to most of the super extroverted people whereas it might not be as easy for the reserved ones. I'm sure they are envied for their abilities but there's nothing much others can do about it except work harder on themselves... a lot of it is learned/acquired. The more you do it, the better you get at it. You also have to remember that those people who are good at impressing the boss with their talks are probably insecure about their work ... we all have our insecurities no matter how it looks on the outside.

I don't know under what context this conversation started, but I'm just going with the flow here cuz the last post made me add my own opinion on the topic at hand.😆

The topic actually started with Zayn ranting about the grammys being rigged😆 I mean he basically said that grammys award those who send them stuff/bribes which is completely different from that socializing I think.

Now even in the corporate world, from my experience, the ones who get noticed/picked for promotions are those who excel at work and also those who communicate well. This also includes selling yourself for sure. You have to make your presence felt. For example my brother is a top guy at one of the Big4s and his biggest strength I've always felt is how he communicates. But this is restricted to his workplace. He doesn't even have any social media, thats how much he hates unnecessary conversations lol. But at work, they all LOVE him. But he just won't meet anyone post work hours, he says I see enough of them at work😆 Anyways they're pretty much at office only like 10 am to 10 pm.

From what I've seen(in India), the whole idea of getting work based on your sucking up skills works only in mid-size corporates, but not in the Bigger ones. They know better than to let someone take them for that ride.

Also I remember my uncle telling me how his office had someone who literally used to suck the boss' ass and ended up getting some key projects(it was a mid size corporate). That guy eventually messed up and got sacked. Theres only so much that buttering will do.

Infact during my internship, people in my office used to meet up during weekends for football including the partners. I avoided it all because I wanted to sleep😆 But my communication skills during office hours really helped me and I could tell that I was favored compared to the others.

I just looked and DAMN, I've never seen Zayn this savage on social media. That basket of confectionary bit at the end was a cherry on top.😆 I'm a cynic about most of the awards anyway but something must have really pissed people off this time.

When celebrities are involved, the politics must escalate to another sinister level. It must do your head in just witnessing it. Soo ... it looks like Weeknd and some others joined him too. Muy interesante.

Eh. I don’t know what rock you have been living under but Indians were just some savage beasts living in forests eating their own shit until the beautiful foreigners from the advanced countries took pity and came and rescued and cultured them.

Historians like tucchikey and rumali thappad will confirm it.

You heathen.
