We even had a Prez who by all accounts was into grabbing stuff. Boy scouts they weren't and aint. 😊

Yes, having lived in several places, including India, I can definitely say desi men are extremely problematic as a group when it comes to behavior with women. If you're out in public (virtual or real), without the support of a male, a lot of them seem to assume you're fair game. No, it doesn't matter what you wear.

I haven't checked on the allegations on Clarence Thomas, but Kavanaugh accusations ended up being a cooked up farce. Trump was and is terrible, his misogyny well-documented. Fortunately, what most women deal with are the regular Joes. Most of those men at least here in America seem to know how to keep their pervy thoughts to themselves.

Pretending there is no problem with the collective behavior of South Asian men is only going to make it worse.

As for your comment about Aaliyah - she is underage. She was modelling. And yes, she has every right not to be subjected to rape threats. Hopefully, Instagram will help law enforcement IP trace the pervs and have them thrown in prison for it. 10 or 20 arrests like that, the problem will start to go down.

Are you effing kidding? 😂 She was underage and modelling and posting pictures like that? No parental guidance? 😉 It's not a question of being right. Its a question of doing what is sensible and smart- same as defensive driving! Being smart! Next thing you'd be saying is she was underage and posting nude pictures of herself. Would that be ok? 😕

as for desi men being creepy, there's no question about it. But bad enough as ogling and eve teasing women is, its worse to be assaulted and raped.. which if you look at the statistics is a bigger problem in western countries than it is in India. The first kind of behavior is creepy. The second is violence. Take your pick.

Take my pick?

Your point seems to be at least desi men are only creeps; they don't commit rapes like in the West?

Closing your eyes and blinding yourself is not going to change reality. Ie, unreported rape is still rape.

99%! ie, the statstics you see show only the 1% that gets reported. Let's try correcting that and see where it puts India before we start claiming any virtue for at least only being creeps, not rapists.

Btw, these are stats from 2015-2016, so even the current ruling party acknowledges there is a problem.

point that you and the other person seem to have missed is that both are bad. But in the scheme of things, one can live with creepy stares. Not rape. That's where being picky comes in. Simple comprehension would have helped. 😉

as for rapes, even in the west, lot of women dont report. Especially date rapes. So if you got better more reliable stats, feel free to post. We cant rely on just anecdotal cuckoo impressions someone has. 😛

Now how about answering the question- how do you feel about underage girls posting racy pictures in public forums? Dont you think guidance is needed? Would you have her do it if she was related? 😉 See its great to pretend to be liberal and all that, another thing when its one's own. 😉 😂

Why should one have to pick is the question. Should’ve applied that comprehension lesson to yourself before handing out suggestions to others.

Answer what question? The problem here is the fact men are threatening rape. Address that first. Not the fact she posted lingerie pics which she was modelling. What you're trying is deflection to put the onus on the victim instead of the perpetrator. In effect, supporting a heinous crime.

With re: rape being common in the West. There is unquestionably a problem in the West as there is everywhere. But no, India is not at the bottom of the list for rape numbers. You can easily look up unreported rape statsitics in the West as well as in India before claiming some kind of virtue. Guess where it puts India if you factor in the 99% unreported cases? At 178 per 100K population which is the highest in the world. Not something to be ignored out of some false sense of patriiotism. What you're trumpeting ignores the 50% of Indian population that is female. Oh, wait! It won't be 50% because yeah, female feticide still goes on. Are we going to pretend that also doesn't happen because it's against the law and people don't report it? Or is the skewed gender ratio in India something that is "accidental"?

Not to mention the definition of rape varies from country to country. Let's see India: Marital rape, i.e. rape by one spouse of another is also listed as an exception to the act of rape, as long as the woman is above 15 years of age. Rape by a husband of his wife constitutes as rape if they are living separately and has a punishment of 2 to 7 years jail term and a fine.

In October 2017, the Supreme Court stated that the act of sexual intercourse by a husband with his wife who is under the age of majority (18 years) would also be treated as rape. The apex court read down the exception, and the age of consent has been changed from 15 to 18 years.

https://safecity.in/sexual-violence-laws-under-the-indian-penal-code/

ie, a married woman above the age of 18 raped by the husband has no recourse. The incident is not recorded as rape.

At this point, it's quite clear posts like the quoted one are attempting to smear the victims and deflect blame from the criminals. It's one thing to be a troll and post nonsense about celebs and movies, but arguing in favor of rape threats and creepy behavior is a new low. Such people enjoy the muck at the bottom of the pit, I suppose.

All the people who are handing out advices to the victims are doing nothing short of victim shaming. The worst thing i heard is having to take a pick between rape and eye molestation. what next? marry the rapist because that’s the most practical solution according to them? No wonder the rape rate is all time high.🤢
