His first few films were decent. He did try and he even looked interested. And then everything went for a toss..even early 2000s were a mess..Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Har Dil jo pyar karega..they were all similar films and he just sleep walked through them.
He's extremely moody and only he can appear bored and still make a hit (unfortunately). 9/10 times he's just chilling and that one time that he realizes that he's an actor who actually needs to act, he manages to show a glimpse of that 90s salman.
Slightly disagree on this one.
He played the nice, caring husband in Chori Chori.... and the good-heated small town guy in HDJPK.
These films may have looked similar on surface-level (because the principal cast was same) but his roles were almost opposite, and he pulled off both roles quite well.
Commercial success of his films is a different thing. But as an actor, he was talking his craft a bit seriously even in nearly 2000s.
His performance as the broken, obsessed lover in Tere Naam (2003) was pretty solid. Tht film was was basically the Kabir Singh of that time. šThe impact was similar, except their was no social media back then.š
Around the same time, he appeared in Baghban and his act as the "ideal son" was quite convincing, despite the cringe factor.
There were some bad films during this period, but their failiure was more because of their poor storylines/direction.
Salman's monotony and downfall started mid-2000s with films like Kyonki , Jaan-e-Man, Lucky etc etc where the films were as bad as his performances,
But even then....he was managing enough to stay in the game with comedies like No Entry, Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya, Partner etc.šš¼
All of this happened BEFORE he took his bad boy image too seriously.šµ
Late 2000s were certainly a mess for him. Barring Wanted, all his films tanked/flopped.
His looks also started to detrioit around this time. He looked like an angry middle-aged man and an addict all the time.
Dabangg and Bigg Boss in 2010, literally re-defined his career, looks and persona. He hit the bull's eye and there's been no looking back ever since. Sadly, we lost our 90s/early 200s wala Salman in the process.
