They very fact that our guy is not like any other ITV Male leads is super refreshing. Shaurya's character is written in such a beautiful way that you completely rely on him and at the same time sympathise with him. Knowing that he is the shield yet somewhere he is looking for protection. I can't even start how beautiful and unabashed his flaws are. And at the same time you have to give it to the writers for doing what they did. Also, I think the promos were not misleading because I kind of know that once anokhi and Shaurya fall in love, the misogyny will come out and it will not be him but his sufferings. So I am kind of prepared to see the graph falling and then pacing up. The character has got layers and I am glad it is close to reality.
Now, the change that Audience deserved was having a male lead-
Who doesn't belittle the female lead based on her financial status.
Who doesnt sl*t shame her.
Who doesn't always tell her how she is a village girl and desperate and knows no better.
Who doesn't manhandle woman.
And apparently who doens't pull and push the girl according to his mood.
Also I do want to confess that I still regret liking toxicity years back. I remember how I didnt go all mad on Arnav for treating Khushi the way he did because if it happens in today's television I might turn off the TV and be like Khushi you can't fall for this man no matter how amazing you chemistry is. It's toxic.
And trust me I loved IPKKND and I still do but now I have grown up and have my own mindset.
Similarly there are so many shows that still run on toxicity of male leads and I can only blame the writers as well as the audience because its them who choose what to see.
