The scene where she was explaining not to be scared of anyone and the last scene where she is folding her hands and looking up looked so awkward. It's like she was focusing so much on her body language and dialect that she didnt have time for expressions. She had a blank confused look through out the teaser. And alia literally looked like a teen playing dress up. The bar is set so LOW that even a below average performance is touted as good. This needed PC or Rani....hell even tripti could've done this better.

I have a feeling the actual movie is going to suck.

How do I unsee this? It’s terrible.

Frankly, I didn't have much expectation from an SLB film with Alia because I thought it was going to be another Kalank where she tried to ape actors known more for their glamor and sex appeal. But this kinda look suits her.

And really, I can't see another A-lister in BW who could've done this. Most of them can't portray a strong female role because they simply can't seem to let go of sexy persona. Vidya, Tabu, etc. are exceptions, of course, but they're too old to play Gangubai as far as I understand the story. Alia managed to somehow portray both toughness and streetside coquetry in the teaser.

Very much looking forward to this movie now. The first time for me with an SLB film after Khamoshi.

dedh ishqiya too, same sunglass with simple sari look, but many movies have this

I personally find it very jarring to see Alia in the role. The role seems so adult, and she's such a babyface. From what I understand, Gangubai was very young. She was sold into prostitution as a teen and became a madam in her twenties. So Alia is appropriately cast - esp if the movie has a loss of innocence element to it. PC or Vidya would have been too old for the role. The trailer does look interesting though. I look forward to it.

So then alia is well casted for the role, gangubhai was very young, pc and vidya are much older, so they wouldn't have fit the age that gangubhai was, and I think one of the interesting things about gangubhai was that she was so young yet so powerful

Not convinced by her performance in the trailer. She looks all kind of awkward. It might be better in the actual full-lenght movie.

He should have kept on working with Deepika who looks more mature

For the first time I felt Alia looks pretty. Esp when she was on the stage at the end.

Lowering your voice throughout a minute and half teaser, or possibly the whole movie, is not voice modulation. It’s just lowering your voice, to sound older I suppose. She is just more subtle about it than Shraddha and her tissue stuffing face.

Her baby face is too distracting. Alia trying to look serious didn’t work in Kalank and her trying to look menacing doesn’t work here. Her face is not made up for these type of characters and she doesn’t have the nuanced talent of working her expressions. The teaser also didn’t have the recent SLB vibes but something about it gave me Sawaariya vibes. Maybe it was the color palette, I don’t know.

Movie might open well as I’m sure it will promoted like crazy. Two and half hours of this might be boring though. But let’s see what the trailer shows.
