Cinema was a mode of entertainment when it had started and remained that way for a very long time.
But now the art's been forgotten, and the industry has become more commercial. Groups and camps aren't helping either.

Film is an art but movies have always been a business. Hollywood cranked out "B" movies to fill double bills and movie theaters almost from the beginning because studios used to own the theaters. The U.S. releases about 700 films a year theatrically (or used to). TV started making movies in addition to series to fill their schedules and get ratings. Then came along steaming services buying and making movies in addition to series. Now studios own TV stations and have their own Streaming Services and as always they want content to fill it.
Netflix paid for Scorcese's Irishman and Apple is paying for his next (because his budgets are out of control and wouldn't make money for a film studio). Why did they pay? Yes its art and prestige but it's to diversify content so they can keep their subscriber base happy and paying.
If Scorcese really valued only the cinematic experience he'd cut his budgets ($200m for The Irishman was insane!) and only do theatrical releases. (when allowed)
None of this is new and no using algorithms to suggest what to watch next does not devalue the movie one just watched. If it's good enough it will retain it's value as art or good entertainment
