Do you think these couples would have survived?

Okay so I know that one can't predict for sure because well, people can evolve, polar opposites can find common ground and stay solid just as solid relationships may fall apart because of cropping situational issues or even eventual systematic clashes. But based on what you know of the characters, of their 'depth' and of whatever you could grasp of their basic nature, do you think that these couples would have survived? And I'd love to know why you think the way you do :)

Here's the list :

1. Rahul and Anjali (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai)

2. Bunny and Naina (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani)

3. Sid and Ayesha (Wake Up Sid)

4. Vanraj and Nandini (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)

5. Arjun and Laila (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara)

6. Kabir and Preeti (Kabir Singh)

7. Ved and Tara (Tamasha)

8. Kabir and Farah (Dil Dhadakne Do)

9. Vikram and Mili (Khoobsurat)

10. Raj and Pooja (Mujhse Dosti Karoge)

11. Chirag and Bitti (Bareilly Ki Barfi)

12. Dev and Maya (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)

13. Surinder and Taani (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)

14. Manu and Tanu (Tanu Weds Manu)

15. Rohan and Pooja (K3G)

16. Jai and Aditi (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na)

17. Prem and Poonam (Vivah)

18. Veer and Zoe (Love Aaj Kal 2)

19. Rahul and Kamini (Salaam-E-Ishq)

20. Aman and Kartik (Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan)

I can only answer about a few of them, not all. Here we go:

1. Rahul and Anjali were best friends before they got married. Anjali knew all about Rahul, his weaknesses, in and out. She even came to accept his love for Tina, and made peace with it. But she still loved him, and wanted to be with him. They would've survived. I want them to, after rooting for them for 3 hours lol. 😆

2. Sid and Ayesha. Maybe not. Sid was a baby, and while that may be cute initially, it gets tiresome after a while.

3. Vanraj and Nandini, definitely yes. Theirs was a very mature love. By the end of the movie, Nandini comes to completely appreciate Vanraj and chooses him over her supposed great love. She understands he's all that one would want in a life partner.

4. Arjun and Laila, yes. Laila helps bring out the livelier side of Arjun, and encourages him to stop being cynical. Arjun appreciates her support and maturity, and her liveliness. Something that has been lacking in his life. They would've been a fun couple. Enjoying the little things in life.

5. Raj and Pooja. No. Raj is very toxic.

6. Dev and Maya. HELL NO! Because no. I don't even want them to. They were altogether ugh. 🤢

7. Manu and Tanu: Hell yeah. They went through their ups and downs and cannot live without each other regardless. They'll fight and fight, and still want to be with each other. 😆

8. Rohan and Pooja: Rohan would eventually get tired of her, and Poo would find him to be very boring as well. Lol. They're two very different people who want different things in life, perhaps.

9. Kabir and Preeti: No. Kabir is abusive and toxic. I don't think so.

I love this question! Bollywood often puts together such incompatible people. In fact watching Bollywood movies you would think there is no such thing

1. Rahul and Anjali (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) - Yes. They had a very strong friendship as their foundation. And in 8 years they still loved each other.

2. Bunny and Naina (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) - No. Incompatible, different passions. I refuse to believe Bunny was content with settling. He would eventually want to fly.

3. Sid and Ayesha (Wake Up Sid) -- never watched it

4. Vanraj and Nandini (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)-- Yes they would've survived. A very traditional, old school couple. They are the type to ignore their differences or work through it because divorce is taboo.

5. Arjun and Laila (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara)-- No idea because they never showed how Laila actually lived her life rest of the year when she wasn't teaching and traveling. Arjun might've have loosened up but I would think he would still want some structure and success in his life.

6. Kabir and Preeti (Kabir Singh)-- Yes. They are toxic but they are passionately obsessed with each other.

7. Ved and Tara (Tamasha)-- Yes. Ved's fun side was very compatible with Tara.

8. Kabir and Farah (Dil Dhadakne Do)-- No idea. The couple wasn't explored enough. Based on what I saw, No.

9. Vikram and Mili (Khoobsurat)-- Unsure but let's say No. Because I found her so annoying, it's hard for me imagine how someone wouldn't get tired of her obnoxious personality.

10. Raj and Pooja (Mujhse Dosti Karoge)-- Gross but yes.

11. Chirag and Bitti (Bareilly Ki Barfi)-- No. Bitti is not the type to put up with things.

12. Dev and Maya (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)-- agh... yes only because even if they were miserable (which they would be because they were that sort) they weren't the type to divorce.

13. Surinder and Taani (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)-- Yes

14. Manu and Tanu (Tanu Weds Manu)-- Absolutely no. You could already see TWM3 at the end of 2.

15. Rohan and Pooja (K3G)-- Yeah. Shallow relation for shallow people. They can go through life without getting too emotionally invested in anything. That helps.

16. Jai and Aditi (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na)-- I think so

17. Prem and Poonam (Vivah)-- Yes. There is no reason to divorce to forever submissive Poonam.

18. Veer and Zoe (Love Aaj Kal 2)-- absolutely not also I only read the story after watching 20 mins of the movie.

19. Rahul and Kamini (Salaam-E-Ishq)-- don't remember but no because they were incompatible and Raul was phony

20. Aman and Kartik (Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan)-- didn't watch

Sng comedy did a wonderful skit on famous Bollywood jodis seeking couples therapy. Many of the couples from the TM's list are there. Plus Prem and Suman from Maine pyar kiya, Mr India and his wife, Raj and Simran from DDLJ etc.

BW promotes unrealistic couples in name of romanticising the idea of love and adjustments.

1. Rahul and Anjali (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai)

Yes.. they were friends before anything else and Anjali loved him all her life.. And Rahul too had nearly lost her once.. they would have lived a very happy married life

2. Bunny and Naina (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani)

Contrary to popular belief, yes.. I feel Bunny had seen the world and yet fallen for Naina.. Same goes for Naina.. they would have made even long distance work

3. Sid and Ayesha (Wake Up Sid)

Nah.. Sid was too immature and Ayesha too sorted

4. Vanraj and Nandini (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)

Yes.. because no reason they wouldn't be😆

Yes.. because Laila literally brought Arjun out of his shell

6. Kabir and Preeti (Kabir Singh)

No.. Kabir would eventually have scared away Preeti😆

7. Ved and Tara (Tamasha)

Blah

8. Kabir and Farah (Dil Dhadakne Do)

Blah

10. Raj and Pooja (Mujhse Dosti Karoge)

11. Chirag and Bitti (Bareilly Ki Barfi)

Yes.. because once again no reason for breaking up😆

12. Dev and Maya (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)

Yes.. because they both knew each other's flaws and yet loved each other.. they had no reason to be insecure in this relationship contrary to their previous relationships

13. Surinder and Taani (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)

Yup.. a husband like Surinder is good for your ego😆

14. Manu and Tanu (Tanu Weds Manu)

Here are my two cents ^^

1. Rahul and Anjali (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) - I'm torn about this one because I (like many I guess?) felt that Rahul's 'love' was merely at an attraction level. Yes, they were indeed best friends and they knew each other well; the care aspect of their bond might be the factor that sustains the marriage but it feels like the mutual romance part won't last for long. I feel like Rahul would get over his 'feelings' soon. I'd say no to their love surviving but yes to their marriage surviving because I doubt Rahul would resort to divorce even if he feels like the love isn't there anymore. I'm not sure if Anjali would decide on letting go if she feels that he doesn't feel it back though. Plus there's Anjali 2.0 who'll be a major deciding factor.

2. Bunny and Naina (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) - As much as it breaks my heart to say this, I doubt they'd make it. I feel that Naina would be the one who'd make more concessions and the major ones. Eventually she'd be unhappy and Bunny would be frustrated with that kind of behaviour and responsibility because it does seem like travel is what genuinely ignites all the cells in his body. This is a classic case of love isn't enough imo :/

3. Sid and Ayesha (Wake Up Sid) - I feel like this would work. There'll probably be fights but they'd talk it out and the conflicts won't be systematic because I feel like Sid's character development has been such that he'd drop the ego and communicate. Ayesha is mature, understanding and pretty lenient which is another plus. Their core bond is peaceful and this just works ❤️

4. Vanraj and Nandini (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) - They'd absolutely work. They scream stability and traditionalism. Not the kind of people who'd get existential crises. Plus based on their characters, I feel like they know each other thoroughly enough to get through any rough patch that might arise.

5. Arjun and Laila (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara) - Yes they would. I feel like Arjun has been enlightened enough about his authentic self and knows Laila's value in his life. Imo, theirs is the kind of connection that seems strong enough to survive long distance. Laila is chill and empathetic, and Arjun is head over heels for her. From his experiences, he'll definitely give his best to make it work. And idk if you've seen their deleted scene from the movie but they seem like they'd communicate enough. They know each other's nature and love each other.

6. Kabir and Preeti (Kabir Singh) - Pretty sure it will work. These two seem so passionate about each other that it's hard to tell if the usual "passion fizzes out after marriage" will happen 😆 It's their personalities themselves. They might break up several times but they'll end up patching up again because they're obsessed with each other. In fact I feel like they'll actually need break-ups for their relationship to work. And they seem very capable of initiating them. Toxicity galore 👀

7. Ved and Tara (Tamasha) - Yes. I feel like Ved is now pretty much conscious of his identity and of what he actually wants. And if he derails (which I highly doubt since his root trauma has been tackled), Tara's helpful, patient, stable nature and love for him are not gonna let her give up on him. All of the existential things aside, these are two people who can sit with each other without a single word while relishing silence that can never get awkward. Plus they're both crackpots with vivid imagination so they aren't gonna get bored during the relationship.

8. Kabir and Farah (Dil Dhadakne Do) - No. I feel like this was attraction more than anything else. Very low chances.

9. Vikram and Mili (Khoobsurat) - YES. One, Mili is an empathetic, communicating sweetheart who won't ruminate over hanging matters and will seedha seedha speak about them, while Viku is in love with all of her, including the differences. And vice versa of course. Helps that both their sasural wale are super chill.

10. Raj and Pooja (Mujhse Dosti Karoge) - In normal times, I'd say no because I feel like the boredom would eventually slide into the relationship, but these specific characters are too unidimensional for any kind of debate 😆 So yes, they'd be cheesy and it would work.

11. Chirag and Bitti (Bareilly Ki Barfi) - Yes! Both individually stable individuals who found exactly what their hearts were seeking ❤️

12. Dev and Maya (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna) - Idk if I'm the only one but I feel like the idea of forbidden love ignited this bond more than anything else. I feel like things will fizz out once they start living with each other. No to this one.

13. Surinder and Taani (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi) - Yes. Taani's character was really that weird and half-baked so wouldn't be shocked if it does work. Tujh mein rab dikhta hai and all ☻

14. Manu and Tanu (Tanu Weds Manu) - I feel like it would be a tumultuous ride but they'll eventually last, yes.

15. Rohan and Pooja (K3G) - Yes, I feel like their whole quest to reunite Rahul and the family had reinforced the deepest kind of bond they might have had, taking into consideration the depth of their characters that has been showcased 😆 They'd work. Plus they're both basically family-oriented and pretty simple at heart.

16. Jai and Aditi (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na) - YES YES YES. Just one word: soulmates ❤️

17. Prem and Poonam (Vivah) - A big, corny yes 😛

18. Veer and Zoe (Love Aaj Kal 2) - No. At least at the point where we were left in the movie. Zoe still seems confused to me and I don't think that she's at a point where she's actually stable enough/has tackled her demons to know if she actually chooses Veer over her career. I feel like she'd gravitate towards her career sometimes, resulting in conflicts and Veer would be worn out making concessions every time.

19. Rahul and Kamini (Salaam-E-Ishq) - No. The differences would eventually creep in and they'd grow apart.

20. Aman and Kartik (Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan) - Yes!

Yeah they probably would. Their prem kahani was mushkil enough for them to value each other I guess 😆 What do you think?
