The story of multiple leads doesn't work well for tv shows. Maximum 2 couples mostly did. Since it's 1 hour show, the parallel tracks of supporting cast needs to be shown as well.

No, but they did remove them from montage and promo + significantly reduced their SS, like you had already pointed out from start, that it is tough for PHs to handle many stories, they end up choosing one over another at some point.
