Is South Film Industry overhyped?

The acting in dubbed films on SetMax,Zee ain't extraordinary.I find them same as Bollywood.Do you think it is overhyped?

malayalam films are superior any day

Most of south films are worse than bollywood yess.. but there are some which are far better than bollywood too.

For one, South film industry doesn't exist the same way there is nothing like North film industry. I doubt Bengali and Marathi cinema would be happy to be included under the same umbrella as Bollywood.

There is Tamil cinema, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada. All 4 vary widely in quality. Malayalam makes really artistically superior movies, but there is crap that comes out as well. The ratio of good to crap is probably highest with them than the other 3.

Let's face it, crap sells in all industries because mindless entertainment is easier for the audience, not to mention the fact that sex sells as does patriarchy. The average dude is not going to fork out his money to watch The Great Indian Kitchen, but he will watch Eega.

But because of the money made by that crap, artists are also able to make good cinema.

Difference between *South* films and Bollywood is balance. Bollywood's good to crap ratio is very low.

If you assume that the dubbed version represents the south Indian movies and you compare it with Bollywood movies ,you are bound to believe that south Indian movies are hyped. I don't understand why they choose the worst movies ,dub it and telecasts it in Hindi channels.

As an avid movie fan I can say that for larger than life movies, Bollywood is best , in South there are few exceptions like the movies of Shankar, Rajamouli but if compare the number of movies released of that genre Bollywood has upper hand .

If you compare slice of life movies, true story adaptation ,realistic movies, the movies which we can closely relate with our culture Malayalam industry and Tamil is best . When a movie like Kireedam was remade in Hindi it lost its essence , I am yet to find a movie in Bollywood which gives similar feel like Ennu ninte moideen , The Great Indian Kitchen,Ramante Eden thottam, Bangalore days , bharatham, thoovanathumbikal, Joseph or maheshinte prathikaram, 3,96 and the list goes on.

That being said Malayalam industry was widely criticized for mass movies , one man show kind of movies in last decade but recently it shows positive trend with the release of high quality movies.

In Tamil there are many movies which is closely related to their culture like Adukalam , pariyerum perumal, subramaniapuram, pava kadaikal etc but I cannot find a single movie in Bollywood which is released in past decade represents a culture with accuracy . There are gems like Anbe shiva, mounaragam, Aruvi, Paruthiveeran, Guna,super delux ,iruvar , etc and rarely would you find something of similar genre in Bollywood.

Maybe to create the impression with their viewers that their films are superior and southern films are of lower quality...

How does the other movie industries like Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi etc fare when compared to the Southern Industry or even BW...

Yes, it is just that their 'good movies' get the hype and we end up thinking all their movies are good.
