The point is most of the human beings need proper grooming to look attractive, not everyone looks good without make up/grooming. Actually very few people look good without grooming.

to add to your points...you have to look good for camera...even if you are beauty in real life,Camera may not like you.

Someone from airport customs once mentioned how pretty Shamita Shetty was and it never seemed so on screen.I mean he sees to many stars...

so, grooming , make up(it does not quite work on everyone) and camera should love you.

Karishma is avg looking but she has great hair and skin...western outfits looked good on her (back in the day she was one of the few who looked great in western wear...her hair and skin helped her majorly).

This is true ! Rani's facial features is her strength when it comes to looks. PC has sex appeal, amazing voice, carried outfits well...and camera liked her.

From your list, I only find Alia “average” looking other wise from Karisma to Rani to Kajol..they all have beautiful features and the wow factor which sets them apart from other girls.

Rani got noticed by Aditya chopra to shahrukh khan with her first appearance on screen.
kajol has very beautiful features, watch DDlj or her latest Tribhanga to see them.
And karisma is far from average, she is the better looking sister. If anything it’s Kareena who is the average looking. Karisma has striking features which sets her apart.

And PC, she was the Miss World..enough said.

Karishma and Rani are not average. Especially Karisham has striking features.

According to me, Alia, Kajol, Karisma, Rani and PC come to mind. Though personally I LOVE Rani and PC in looks, they have that X-factor acc. to me which makes up for average features.

I agree, all the actresses mentioned by you are average looking, but nostalgia makes people blind.

Rani,tabu , kokna sen sharma , kajol. (Though all of these are nepo kids).

It's always heartening to see people without the pretty privilege succeed in an industry which places high premium on beauty, but more to the point, none of the actresses listed here are "average looking", least of all Rani.
