😆 Bhai, I was making fun of the original post. Patriarchy is one thing. Practicality is another.
Tbh, I think Scandinavians have the best idea. Name sons after father and daughters after mother.
So Eric, son of Olaf, will be Eric Olafsen.
Erica, daughter of Olga, will be Erica Olgadottir.
If you had read my original post, you should know that the problem you're talking about is already mentioned by me.
While your solution is good, in a country like India, where female foeticide is a big problem, it would create more trouble for women as families would then be more inclined in having a boy to take the family name forward.

Focusing on the name and trying to change the last name of kids....when women face much much more bigger problems...some that you have mentioned.....changing the last name would be like applying a band aid..to a wound that requires stiches....we have to change the mindset....until them ...all the shoshebaazi of last name and all is just a plastic surgery to cover up a deformity...

What is your solution??
Mother's name?...that won't be equality either....
I suggested one...merge the last names of the parents...like KORMA(someone had suggested which is a good idea) for Kohli and Sharma...
See its all in our minds.....patriarchy will still be very much there unless are minds are trained for equality.....that is what I am saying....last name is important for a lot of legal technicalities also...we can't do away with last names....yes we can do away with the patriarchal mindset for sure....I have my father's last name.....it doesn't make me feel any different ..if suppose I were to have my mother's last name...I would be the same exact person.....no one...other than my two kids(they have my heart) can make me do anything against my wish....name doesn't matter....the way we raise our kids will matter.
If I had a solution, I won't be asking it here.
Solution is not easy, I know that.
Like HearMeRoar suggested, boy taking father's name and girl taking mother's name is a good solution, though not a perfect one.
I don't have a problem with child taking only mother's name either. Because mothers do much more for their child than a father in general.
Them going through all the process of pregnancy itself is a big thing. So we could honour them in that way.
It would still be equality.

Women face alot of issues in a wide range of spectrum. Some are big and some are small.
Focussing on small issues doesn't mean we don't care about the bigger ones.
Everything starts from a small place only.
Sharma Kohli or Kohli Sharma, are equal to me. Or they could make a weird mashup like Sharli or Korma. 😆
For me, the most neutral, non-patriarchal, and practical way to select the last name is a variant of the place they were born.
So if a child is born in London you be London, Londonson, Londonian, Oflondon, Londonkar, Londonwallah, Londonite, Londonovich, Londonski, Londonero, Londonton, whatever floats your boat.
You could even choose a neighborhood like Tribeca, Soho, Midtown, Uptown (sorry don't know London hoods). Or even Landmarks like Westminster, Trafalgar, Buckingham.
Kohli. Please spare me the whole feminist/women empowerment lecture.

Kohli. Please spare me the whole feminist/women empowerment lecture.
Easy solution for this non complex issue.
Tradition of Surnames should end.

This thread is hilarious......I remember that when Shahid's son was born...some member very innocently said...ab family complete hui.....and OMG the uproar...matlab ladke se family complete hoti hai...why can just one girl make a complete family....why not 2 girls...baap re...😆
On a serious note....naam se kuchh nahi hoga.....raise empowered kids...teach them equality...teach them to be proud of who they are whether girl or boy....it doesn't matter whose name the kids take...
I totally agree.
