Sonam was never invested in her craft or showed the inclination to be the best version of herself. Some actresses just don't have the acting chops (Katrina, Shraddha) but I believe Sonam had the potential but didn't act on it. She just sort of went with the flow. Coming to Anushka, she does have acting chops and is pretty much equal to Deepika in acting skills, but she never attained that elusive stardom. She could have been right up there with Deepu, but somehow luck didn't favour her and even when she had massive hits, her co-stars walked away with the accolades like Ranbir in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

I don't think it's fair to assume Sonam didn't care about her craft. She did Begin her career bu working with acclaimed directors like SLB (Devdas, Black...) and ROM (Rang de Basanti) who previously had commercial and critical.

Then wanting commercial success she did a Dharma Production movie (I Hate Love Stories) which turned out to be her first hit.

She followed up with her and her sister's production Aisha, a chick flick which was a moderate success which would have the way for futur collab between the sisters (Khoobsurat ans VDW).

Thank You and Players were also mobiles she did to try and have commercial success. Keep in mind that at the time, it was the babes like Katrina who were successful ans sought after. Doing flower pot roles were the thing.

Mausam was a movie which was real good on paper and had a great opening. Alas it was toi costly and not well executed.

It's with Raanjhanaa that she got commercial and critical success again and understood what position she should take In the industry. She'll do Chuck flicks and romcom but also socially relevant movies.

As a fan, it's obvious to me she wasn't lazy but just didn't have luck for some of her ventures. She also didn't hustle lile Deepika who gobbled up all the big projects which end up taking her what she is now.

Deepika chose to work with Ranbir after the KWK fiasco and his father's subconsquent intervention while Sonam kept being stubborn and refused to work with him for a long time.

They debuted the same day but their career path isn't he same as both of them made different choices.

But in a way, you're right. At one point, when she understood what she could, she did want with the flow.

Neither has has her looks, talent or versatility...

Anushka is usually a good actress but she only suits girl-next-door type roles, both acting, looks and on screen vibe/personality wise...

And Sonam is just a typical nepo kid who can't act to save her life, but got chance after chance... and (surprise surprise) still failed to make it 👏

Anushka tried , but it's her script sense or luck even though she had some directors who would have made her peak into stardom , deliever duds.

She signed with Vishal Bhardwaj but got his Lowely rated Matru ki Bijli, anand l Rai gave her a really bad zero ,yash chopra had her being an annoying twat in jab tak hai jaan, anurag kashyap bombed with Bombay velvet, Hirani gave her leash but that was out and out aamir movie,Imtiaz Ali Harry met Sejal was so boring , only got a side role in zoya DDD , less said about kjo adhm better, sultan could have been something but her role was chop down to minute screen time in second half.

So acting or not acting is another thing, all the movies she tried turned out to be worst at box office even critically and some success she had was taken away by khans.

She was left with nothing.

I feel Anushka needs a good Work-life balance. She can't hustle like Deepika or Alia, and ultimately to be at the top, you need to go at it consistently year after year.
Sonam overdid the romance chick-flick genre. Aisha was cute, Khoobsoorat was ok - but Zoya was awful. And she didn't have the heft carry off a ELKD too

Sonam is awful onscreen.

Anushka can act but doesnt have the x-factor

Well not that Deepika is some legendary actress

However even though Anushka is far better than DP actingwise but still she somehow lacked the X factor. And the less said about Sonam, the better! She is one pathetic actress with a screechy voice and poor dialogue delivery 😵
