This was a dialogue used in the movie Hum Tum. Saif Ali Khan's character Karan repeats this line throughout the film. As he and Rani's character Rhea keep meeting at different points of life, everytime they're about to say goodbye, Rhea was either not sure, that whether they will meet again or not, or completely sure that they will not meet again based on how her encounter with Karan went this time. But Karan was always sure that they'll meet again because "ye zindagi bahut lambi hai, aur humare paas waqt bahut Kam".

What does this line exactly mean? Agar zindagi lambi hai, to waqt kam kaise hain humare paas? Aur agar waqt kam hai to zindagi kaise lambi ho jayegi?

I guess this line wants to say that life is long, but we are so much engrossed in our work, our troubles and our miseries that the time left to enjoy this life is very short. But how does that give confirmation to Karan that he and Rhea will meet again?

Anyone out there who can explain this dialogue based on the context of this film?

You explained it in the best possible way, though life is long we keep ourselves busy with our activities (blaming, sulking, crying.....and many other positive things too) that's why we couldn't enjoy it and it seems not enough

Regarding about how he knew they are gonna meet again- I guess karan was a big flirt, yehi dialogue pata nahi kitne ladkiyo ko chipkaya hoga😆

Zindagi bohot lambi hai aur humare pass waqt bohot kam may also mean there's a little time for them (rhea and karan) to know each other

It sounds like an oxymoron to me and perhaps he meant it as such, because life itself is an oxymoron.

Perhaps he meant it that way -- to confuse, to keep alive a sense of wonder, and to drive into Rani's character's head that though life was long, but time flies and it is best to say goodbye with the knowledge of this peculiar aspect!

Life is long and we have limited time to do all the things planned for us. So we will meet each other again and again.

if you notice, carefree and happy people are like this only. Sad and depressed people are the ones stressing how miserable life is while the happy ones find happiness and pleasure at every turn of life, they will never think "I might die next year and we might not meet again" or something like that.

Karan was always sure that they'll meet again because he knew that’s what the director and the scriptwriter had in mind...

And of course he had seen the original, so he knew it, all of us who had seen the original knew it.

And that’s my best explanation...
