One Shot
Sai got admitted in the Nagpur Medical College and even applied for the hostel, but she was still in waiting list as she was now a home resident of Nagpur and would only be allotted a room when all the outsider students were accommodated.
She had prayed to Bappa daily for that hostel allotment, and even after starting with the first semester she hasn’t lost hope.
If not this semester, than maybe next semester.
She had kept this hostel issue in wraps with her in-laws, because they didn’t deserve to know. Not even Virat.
After apologising and requesting to Pakhi to return back to the house, she has built a wall around her, that no one can break. She stopped reacting to the insults thrown at her, stopped getting instigated by Pakhi’s subtle yet pinching words. Because they were not worth her time and they didn’t deserve to know the real her. Not really.
Except for Ayi. Of course.
Virat did notice her off behaviour to his family which didn’t irk him but her treating him the same bothered him, and somewhere in his mind he knew that he’s an equal participant in turning Sai to this aloof person.
He tried joking with her, tried cute antics, fake anger, everything.
And nothing worked, all she always did was a smile or a small nod or one word answers. Not good.
Sai started college and days passed by. She did notice his different methods make her melt, to make her mingle up more. But she couldn’t risk it. Not after the what she knew he felt for Pakhi. She couldn’t get attached, because god has taken away the one person she truly loved and she couldn’t risk loving someone and then losing him to someone else. Not her league.
She also noticed how he always defended her whenever his family badmouthed about her. Whenever Pakhi made those subtle insults. But she didn’t care anyways. At least that’s what she thought.
Her second semester started and she was all thanks to Bappa allotted a room in the hostel. And that was the day when all her 32 teeth’s made an appearance and she truly smiled. A thought about leaving Chavan Nivas...him, did taint her smile a bit but then again she told herself that she’s not allowed to think about a man who can never be hers. He’s just fulfilling his farz anyways.
When she told him the news, he was soo silent and she couldn’t figure out those expression of his. It almost looked like he was in pain?
She must be hallucinating right? Like shocked expression would be logical but pained?
Anyways.
When she told him about her shifting to the hostel, he almost panicked. He lost his ability to speak. This couldn’t be happening to him. Not when he’s gotten soo used to her presence in his life. Not when he started to lo— no.
No she can’t do this to him.
But she can can’t she? Didn’t you yourself ask her to never expect anything from each other? Well congratulations Virat Chavan, at least she’s good at fulfilling her Vadas unlike you.
She is leaving today and he has no right to stop her. But try making his heart understand that shit. Impossible.
She started her goodbye speech for him but he couldn’t hear anything. His stomach churned at thought of losing her. Sai, his beautiful innocent Sai. He has to stop her. He has to.
“...thankful to you for—“
“Sai don’t.” He blurted.
“But Virat Sir you’ve helped me a lot and I deserve to thank you for all your efforts.” She pouted.
“No, not about that. What I’m saying is, Sai don’t go.” He said with a broken voice.
“But sir it’s only right thing to do. And you’ve fulfilled your farz. So you don’t need to feel bad about me. I’ll truly manage everything and if I’d need help I’ll contact you. So, no worries.” She tried to explain it to him.
“But I won’t be able to manage without you Sai.”
“But Pakhi didi is here for you na? Also what am I to you?” She was confused now.
“Pakhi is just a friend. But you. Sai you are my wife. My everything. And I’d do anything and everything to convince you to not leave me, not treat me like I’m just another outsider. You’re my world Sai. Can you just take one step of not leaving me and I’ll make all other amendments to make you see what I feel for you? Please Sai...” Virat was just moments away from breaking down completely in front of her, after all Sai was his one last chance at peace and happiness.
“Yes.” She couldn’t say anything else. She was at a loss of words for the first time in her life but at that moment that one word was enough for him. For them.
And then they hugged each other like two souls who had just found each other after an eternity.❤️
