Thanks for sharing your positive feelings and experience of autism.
What people dont realise is that autism is a spectrum - children and adults can go from having no speech or low IQ to being near geniuses andalmost as normal as other kids.
Social situations though are always the giveaway
But thank you most of all for highlighting the fact that so many mistake it as a mental illness - it isnt. It's a brain impairmernt which with early intervention can allow the person tomake significant progress and maybe achieve independance and/or have a good quality of life

Ur welcome dear...this topic is really close to my heart...my neighbour found out her son was autistic when he was 4 yrs... (she had an older child, and he was 13 and always a rank holder so for her it was a complete set back) all that time she just thought he had speech delay...he would not even call his parents Mom or Dad, they were like objects to him. If he wanted something he would just point it out. She enrolled him for speech therapy classes and he started saying few words, gradually he improved a lot but he was still not age appropriate as compared to other kids.
It was really difficult for him even to do normal things like he had to learn how to tear paper and scrbble on the walls. A year later, she sent him to school he was okay but still lacked in academics. So he dropped out in grade 3, cos he could not cope with the pressure of tests and often kids too would make fun of him. Now he goes for other classes like karate and chess. However she keeps saying there is light at the end of the tunnnel.... it's just that her journey is going to be really long. As a mother she has done everything within her reach and I hope she has more strenght to just carry on.
