Up until 1993, Rishi Kapoor still was passable as a romantic hero, but after 1993, he aged really badly and became obese as well. In his last romantic hero movie Karobaar 1998, he looked really aged Middle aged man and this movie itself was delayed few years

Why did he let him go like this? despite being a successful romantic hero.

But he probably did that from his young days in the 70's, it was particularly during this period 1993-1998, he aged really badly.

The smartest was Shashi kapoor till age 50 almost, after that he became really obese and aged

Shashi kapoor acted has a lead dancing hero till 1985 - 86. He was almost 50 at the time and he acted with his son's (Karan's) heroines like Padmini and Poonam Dhillon.

After Shashi Kapoor's wife passed away, he just let go. Until then Jennifer Kapoor monitored his diet and made sure he remained fit. After her demise, I guess he just lost his discipline and enthusiasm.

Yeah his wife's death messed him up.

Depression and drinking. Really unfortunate.

What's the point of focusing on Rishi Kapoor's supposed "bad aging" during a time interval that holds no importance today?! Some people let themselves go and get fat, some don't. It's life. The man is gone, let him rest in peace.

I watched his movie Shermaan Aashiq opposite Urmila from 1993 and then I saw Karobaar 1998, He is very different in both movies, this is why I was wondering.

I think started drinking a lot maybe at this point in his life, he was in his 40s

He was always a bit overweight but when you hit your 40s your metabolism slows and weight gains accelerate unless you change your diet and exercise routine - and as said the Kapoors seem prone to weight gain.

Recently, when watching Chori Chori and thinking Raj Kapoor though wonderful in it was a bit too old for the role in his mid to late 40s. He was only 32. The extra weight aged him and this was before he had his big weight gain later in life.
