I rewatched the episode and here is my understanding :

Rules are :

1. Only one fox at one time can go inside the circle to touch the egg

2. In every round, only the fox which has no deal with the hen can try to touch the egg

3. If the hen touches the tail of the fox which is trying to touch its egg then that fox lost that round

So it is a one-on-one game ., Its like the hen trying to protect its egg by trying to touch the fox tail and one fox trying to touch the egg while protecting its tail.

Hen can strike a deal with a fox and that fox cannot touch its egg in that round .. so if the same person becomes hen again in the next round then they have to again enter into a deal either with the same fox or different one .

Rules are clear but the contestants understandings are not , I guess
