Pranbir TS - Court Room Drama (Completed)

Plot :

After Prachi changes the statement in molestation case, Ranbir is devastated. He confronts her in college, but she doesn’t say anything. Pallavi goes to Prachi’s house and insults her. And now the case is being heard in Court.

Part 1

Tension was visible on the face of everyone in the hall. All the Mehra and Kohli family members were looking worried. Ranbir was standing in stockade devoid of any emotion. After realizing that his love doesn’t trust him, he had lost all hopes, and had become numb.

Maya had given her statement, saying all bad things about Ranbir’s character & giving her false version of events happened during Holi party. They all were waiting for Prachi, prime witness, to come, who for some reason was late.

Finally she arrived and everyone was shocked looking at her state. Ranbir, even though being very upset with her, was exceedingly worried seeing her condition. There was a small bruise on Prachi’s forehead, which was slightly bleeding. Her dress was covered in patches of mud & blood and she had wrapped a shawl around herself. Before anyone could ask her anything, she was called to give her statement. After taking oath, the proceedings started.

Laywer : “Ms. Prachi Arora, please tell the court what you saw in the holi party”

Prachi told everything truthfully, Ranbir flirting with Maya, him kissing her, both going to room holding hands. Ranbir closed his eyes, feeling extreme anger at himself for his stupid plan of flirting with Maya. He wanted to Prachi to come close to him, but exact opposite of it happened.

Laywer : “Now, please answer some of my questions. You know Ranbir since almost one year, right?”

Prachi : “Yes”

Laywer : “And you both read in same college and also work in same office?”

Prachi : “Yes”

Laywer : “So, you must be knowing him very well. Now tell me, is Ranbir a flirt? Aap ne use alag alag ladkiyon ke sath flirt karte hue dekha hain?”

Prachi : “Jee.”

Laywer : “Okay, thank you. Is there anything else you want to tell the court?”

Prachi : “Yes, I want to tell about the incident happened with me this morning, the reason I came late in the Court. Someone intentionally rammed his vehicle into my auto while I was coming to court.After accident, that person threatened me saying if I give the statement against Ranbir, I will have to face the consequences, agar mujhe apni ya apni family ki parva hai to main Ranbir ke khilaf koyi statement na doo.”

Everyone was shaken to hear that. Ranbir was livid. He guessed that it would be Maya’s plan, but his anger was more because she hurt Prachi, than that of putting blame on him for it.

Laywer : “So as you were the one who saw Ranbir going with Maya in that party & you are the only witness, Ranbir tried to stop you from giving statement against him.”

Prachi : “No”

Laywer : “No?, what do you mean by ‘No’?”

Prachi : “I said that person told me that it was Ranbir who paid him to do the accident & to threaten me.”

Laywer : “Miss Prachi, please be clear. Aap adalat ko gumraah kar rahi hain.”

Prachi : “No, everything I said till now is true. Someone did try to threaten me but it’s not Ranbir.”

Ranbir was confused by her statement. Though a small ray of hope began to flicker in his heart, he was afraid to believe it.

Laywer : “And how can you say that? The person who has molested a girl, can also threaten a witness.”

“Ranbir is not a molester, wo kabhi kisi ladki par jabardasti nahi kar sakta, not even in a druken state. Aur nahi usne mujhe dhamkane ke liye kisi ko bheja tha. Wo mujhe ya kisi ko bhi kabhi intentionally hurt nahi kar sakta. I TRUST HIM.” Prachi said in a loud & clear voice, looking straight into Ranbir’s eyes.

Ranbir was dumbfounded to hear Prachi’s statement. He was finding it difficult to be certain about what he heard, but her eyes conveyed him the truthfulness of her words. After few moments, reality sunk in and a huge smile made its way on his lips, just as the tears started forming in his eyes. Prachi’s trust was the only thing mattered to him in this case. And the knowledge, that his ladylove has faith in him, wiped out all the anguish from his heart. Now that Prachi was with him, he could face anything.

All the people present in the hall were murmuring due to the surprising development in case.

Then Maya stood up and shouted “Prachi, what are you saying? Tumne kaha tha ki tum mera saath dogi, phir ye sab kya hain?”

Prachi replied “Nahin Maya, maine kaha tha ki main sach ka sath dungi, aur sach ye hain ki tum galat ho. Ranbir is innocent.”

The judge ordered Maya to sit down & asked Lawyer to continue.

Lawyer : “Miss Prachi, you had changedyour statement earlier, now again you doing the same.”

Prachi : “Yes I had changed my statement butplease refer to what I said in my both statements. Maine pehle kaha tha kiRanbir aisa nahi kar sakta, he is innocent & in my second statement I justtold Inspector what I saw in party, I never said that Ranbir molested Maya.”

Laywer : “But you said Ranbir flirted with Maya, kissed her and took her to room.”

Ranbir : “I didn’t kiss her. It might have looked like that but I didn’t even touch her.” Ranbir blurted out, unable to hear that false accusation, but more to clear Prachi’s misunderstanding.

Prachi looked at him surprisingly but nodded once, instantly believing his words. Lawyer’s voice broke their eye lock and brought them to reality.

Lawyer : “Miss Prachi?”

Prachi : “Yes, Ranbir did flirt with Maya and also took her to room. But that doesn’t mean he molested her.”

Maya asked agrily “Prachi ye tum kya kah rahi ho? Tum ek ladki hokar…”

Prachi interrupted angrily “Maya, baat ladki ya ladke ki nahin hai, Baat hai sahi aur galat ki. Sirf iss liye ki Ranbir ek ladka hain, iss ka ye matlab nahi ki wo galat hain. Galat tum ho, jisne Ranbir ko jhoothe molestation ke case mein fasaya hain”.

The judge intervened again and reprimanded Maya.

Lawyer : “Miss Prachi, this is your opinion. Truth needs to be proven.”

Prachi replied confidently, “And I have the proof.”

Maya was scared, all Kohlis & Mehras were very shocked at the turn of events. Ranbir was now visibly relaxed; but fear was increasing in the minds of two people, Rhea and Aliya.

“And I have the proof.” Prachi said and handed over a pen drive.

While the arrangement was being made for screen to show the contents of pen drive, Lawyer asked, “So, it means you changed you statement in favor of Maya, as you believed her & then got proof which proves Ranbir as you claim?”

Prachi corrected saying “No, I never had even slightest doubt on Ranbir's innocence. I know him. I changed my statement because of Maya’s attempt of Suicide.”

Everybody was shocked to hear about it.

“Maya attempted suicide?” Ranbir asked in fearful voice, thinking about the consequences, if that attempt would have been succeeded.

“No, she pretended to do suicide, just like fake molestation accusations.” Prachi reassured him.

Looking at the confusion on faces of everyone, Prachi started explaining more to Ranbir’s family than the Court.

“That day, in office, when I was in Vikram sir’s cabin, I had heard his discussion about the case with Mehra sir &Lawyer. Lawyer had said that there were no solid proofs to help Ranbir prove innocent. Ranbir don't remember anything about the happenings, so the case has become complicated. And as generally in this scenario law favors victim, Maya is taking undue advantage of the situation.

I was already trying hard to remember the details of that night which might give me some clue to help Ranbir in this case,but nothing came up. I was becoming surer that only way to prove Ranbir’s innocence was to extract truth from Maya. I was still thinking about a way to make it happen, when Maya herself presented me that opportunity, by attempting suicide in front of me.

I knew she was faking it, looking at crocodile tears. It was to turn me against Ranbir as I was the one who was prime witness.Otherwise why would she come all the way to Ranbir's office area to commit suicide and do it when I was again the witness? Also that whole incident looked unreal, like all was pre-planned.

I knew it was pretense but seeing the possibility to find the truth, I decided to play along. Also I knew Ranbir would get into more trouble due to Maya’s suicide attempt, though it was justan act.

So I went to police station and changed my statement, to gain her trust. And after that Maya believed me. I dropped Maya at her place & then went to my home. I told her that I will stay with her for night as I wanted to keep watch on her.

When I went back to her place, I heard her talking to someone on phone suspiciously. Next day, when I returned from college, I saw someone entering Maya’s house stealthily. Hoping to get some information, I messaged her that I will be late & listened to their talks hiding behind window. And by recording their conversation, I finally got the proof I needed.”

Prachi Completed and video started playing.

Maya: “What are you doing here?”

Person: “I came to meet you, Maya. I was worried for you. Yesterday also I had come,but Prachi was there with you, so I couldn’t meet you. Mujhe dar lag raha hai. This is getting too serious. Tomorrow case will be heard in court, what if…”

Maya: “Just relax. Kuch nahi hoga. Prachi believed me after that fake suicide attempt. And that fool has given statement against Ranbir & tomorrow in Court, Ranbir will be proven guilty.”

Person: “Maya, baat kuch jyada hi badh gai hai. We had decided that we will take the case back after getting money. Now the matter is going to Court. Maya, agar court mein sach sabit ho gaya to sab kuch khatam ho jayega, hume jail ho jayegi. I think you should take the case back now.”

Maya: “Nahi, aisa kuch nahi hoga. I had drugged Ranbir, so there is no chance of him remembering anything. I had staged the scenes well & also did very good acting that day. There are no proofs in his favor, to jo main kahu wohi sab manenge. After Prachi’s statement, there will be no way to prove Ranbir innocent. And before announcement of judgement, I will offer for settlement by asking huge money. Kohlis are well-known family. They have big business. They will be ready to pay any amount of money to save their reputation as they will suffer badly if Ranbir gets convicted. They will also hush up this case for their benefit. So, we don’t need to be worried about that.”

Person: “Are you sure Maya?”

Maya: “Yes, don’t worry. Just wait for tomorrow, all our dreams will come true. We will get so much money that we won’t need to do anything after that. Now, please leave before someone comes.”

Person: “Ok, call me if you need anything.”

The video ended and Prachi continued.

“I got the proof but I still decided to stay with Maya, in case if she does something against Ranbir & she did. Today morning, I told Maya that I will go to my home & then will meet her directly in court. After I left, she made a phone call & planned for my accident & to threaten me by taking Ranbir’s name. Additional measures for additional money.”

Lawyer : “Who is the other person in video?”

Prachi : “He is Rahul, Maya’s boyfriend and the person who did my accident.”

Saying this she looked at the door, where Rahul was standing in handcuffs.

Prachi : “After going home, I had informed the inspector about everything & also showed him the video recording. Police caught Rahul red handed after the accident, and he confessed everything.”

There was a complete silence for few moments. All family members were appalled knowing the acts of Maya & simultaneously feeling ashamed of their behavior towards Prachi.

Ranbir was looking at Prachi with mixture of immense gratitude & guilt. He was stunned knowing to what extent Prachi went to help him and finally proved him innocent single handedly, where others who gave him the assurance of it, were failed to do anything for him even after having the abundant resources & power.

Part 3 (Last Part)

After the undeniable proof & Rahul’s confession, there was no scope for further argument. Judge declared the judgment and Ranbir was acquitted of all the charges.

After some time, all Kohlis, Mehras & Prachi were standing outside the Court, in an uncomfortable silence.

“Prachi beta, please mujhe maaf kardo, pata nahi kya kya kaha maine tumse gusse me. Tum to itna sab kar rahi thi mere bete ki madad karne ke liye aur ek mein thi jisne tumhe itna beizzat kiya. I know I don’t deserve it, but if possible, please forgive me.” Pallavi, was the one who started the conversation, now feeling ashamed.

“Nahi Aunty, please aisa mat kahiye, aapki galti nahi hain. Maine hi jake apna statement change kiya tha. I know you reacted like that because you were hurt.” Prachi said.

“Nahi Prachi, Pallavi is right. We all are at fault. Tumne Ranbir ko samajh liya, uspar bharosa kiya, use begunah sabit karne ke liye itna kuch kiya, aur hum sab ne tumhe hi galat samajh liya. Please forgive us.” Vikram said, feeling disappointed at their own behaviour.

“Haan puttar, galati to hum se hui hi hain, tabhi to itne waqt se tujhe jaante hue bhi humne tujhe samjhane mein bhool kar di.” Dida spoke, without giving Prachi chance to say anything.

“Yes Prachi, even without trying to know the reason behind your change of statement, we blamed you. It was wrong of us.” Abhi said regretfully, while Ranbir was being a mute spectator to the scene.

As Prachi opened her mouth to stop the flow of apologies, Mr. Agarwal, the lawyer came there with his assistant Sameer who presented the case in Court.

“Ms. Prachi, you have done the superb work. It is just because of you, Ranbir has been proven innocent.” Mr. Agarwal said.

“Thank you so much, Prachi. You are the reason I could win my first case. And also thanks for informing me about your change in statement beforehand. Just because of that we could arrange the anticipatory bail for Ranbir in time.” Sameer said enthusiastically.

“What? Prachi had informed you?” Abhi asked, perplexed, others’ faces mirroring his shock.

“Yes, she had messaged me for arranging the bail for Ranbir before going to Police Station for changing her statement. So even before your call, we had started the work. That is the reason; we could prepare the required documents for bail in time, and stop Ranbir getting arrested.” Sameer explained, giving another shock & increasing the guilt of others.

“You knew that Prachi was helping Ranbir? Then why didn’t you tell us?” Abhi asked, now slightly angry.

“Because I had asked him not to do so.” Prachi answered instead of Sameer, who was little alarmed at Abhi’s reaction.

“But why?” Vikram asked her.

“Because I was not sure whether I would succeed or not. Agar main apni koshish mein kamyab nahi ho pati, to aap sab disappoint ho jate. Aur main nahi chahti thi ki jyada logon ko iss bare mein pata chale, warna agar Maya ko jara bhi shaq ho jata to sari mehnat bekar ho jati. Isi wajah se maine Sameer se bhi baad mein direct contact nahi kiya tha. I was talking through the mediator.” Prachi spoke, smiling slightly.

“Mediator? Who?” Abhi asked, getting more and more puzzled by the revelations.

“Neha, Sameer’s fiancé & my collegue cum friend.” Prachi replied & continued further, “Actually in course of work, me, Neha and Sameer became good friends. And both of them had faith in Ranbir’s innocence. Neha was there with me when Maya did that suicide drama, and she also felt something was fishy about that whole incident. So, she was helping me in coordinating with Sameer.”

Everybody was looking at Prachi in awe. As Abhi received a call from office for urgent work, he left with the lawyers after thanking Prachi. Aliya & Rhea were witnessing the complete failure of their plan, with their own eyes. Neither they could break Pranbir friendship nor did Rhea get credit for saving Ranbir. In fact their plan resulted in making Pranbir bond even stronger and Prachi got appreciation from Kohli family. They both left dejectedly, yet thanking their stars as the complete truth was still under wraps. Though in her greed for money, Maya double crossed them, at least their necks were saved.

“Prachi beta, samajh me nahi aa raha ki tumhara shukriya kaise ada karu.” Pallavi spoke, teary eyed.

“Thank you so much Prachi, we will be always grateful to you.” Vikram said.

“Puttar, sach mein, tune jo kuch bhi kiya hain na Ranbir ke liye, hum kabhi nahi bhoolenge. Waise to hume tumhari maa se maafi mangkar, unko bhi shukriya kehna chahiye. To hum abhi chalenge tere saath tere ghar unse milne.” Dida declared.

“Please aap sab aise thanks mat boliye. Ranbir mera dost hain. Aur usne bhi to har mushkil me mera saath diya hain. Maine to bas apni dosti nibhayi hain. Aur maa, wo actually kal raat ko Hoshiarpur gayi hain, Shahana ke saath. Wahan beeji ki tabiyat kuch thik nahi hain issliye. She was also worried for Ranbir, but had to go.” Prachi said.

“Koyi nahi, hum baad mein aa jayenge unse milne. Puttar tu apna khayal rakhna, bhagwan tujhe humesha khush rakhe” Dida said, embracing Prachi thankfully.

“Dad, aap sab ghar jayiye. Main Prachi ko drop karke aata hoon.” Ranbir, who was silently watching the interaction till now, interrupted, noticing the small trace of discomfort on Prachi’s face during the hug, which she was trying to hide.

Vikram nodded and Kohli family left, thanking Prachi for nth time. Ranbir brought his car & Pranbir left for Prachi's home, as Prachi refused to go to doctor. The journey was silent one, quite opposite to their usual bickering car rides. When they reached Prachi’s home, one lady doctor was waiting for them, who were called by Ranbir.
She took care of Prachi's injuries and also gave her medicines for pain. Ranbir was observing each and every movement of Prachi like hawk. His guilt kept on increasing watching at her flinch while nursing the injuries. When the shawl slid from her shoulder showing the handkerchief wrapped bruise on her elbow, Ranbir felt sick of himself as marks of his anger were reflecting on her forearm which got exposed thought torn fabric of sleeve. He closed his eyes feeling disgusted, remembering the way he behaved with her in college.

Doctor left after giving the instructions about medicinal dosage. Ranbir walked her out and closing the main door, he again entered Prachi's room only to see she was about to get down from bed to get herself water.
He hastily moved forward and held her shoulders gently to stop her movement. Taking glass from her hand, he poured water and gave it to her along with tablets. After she took the medicine, he kept glass on table and went to stand little away, shuffling uncomfortably. Prachi was observing his actions, puzzled by his silence.
"Ranbir..." She spoke eager to break the ice.

Hearing his name from her Ranbir lost the control & tears started falling from his eyes.
Alarmed, Prachi practically ran towards him. Ranbir was now shaking and crying uncontrollably.

"Ranbir, please calm down." Her voice made him look towards her.

His hands slowly touched her forearm ever so lightly and he uttered in slow voice, "I..am..so... sorry...Prachi.."

Prachi, grasping the reason for his apology, quickly covered her arms with dupatta and cupped his face.

Wiping his tears, she tried to speak, “Ranbir, its nothing, it just looks bad, not paining at all. And don't apologize, I was wrong to not tell you all this. I am sorry, Ranbir, I never thought you would be so upset by my behavior. I wanted to tell you about my plan, but I didn't want to give you false hope in case I failed. I felt so guilty when I saw you in college. If I would have known you be so heartbroken,I would have never hidden it from you.”
"No Prachi, tum kyun maafi mang rahi ho? You were trying to save me from that Maya and I doubted you. Maine tumhare saath bohot bura bartav kiya college me, and I hurt you…” Ranbir spoke in low voice, guilt ridden.

“No, Ranbir. I know you must have felt very bad by my betrayal and that's why you reacted like that. I know I should have been there with you. But I was worried for you and the case, so when I saw the chance to get the truth, I went for it. I know I should have told you all this earlier. But please believe me; I never had any doubt about your innocence. In college, when you took me to library, and I told you not to lock the door, I knew you thought that I was scared of you. But that was not the case, Ranbir. So many people were there who were watching us, they would have thought Maya’s allegations were true seeing you behaving like that. I wa sworried for you. Believe me.”

Ranbir was overwhelmed perceiving her trust & care for him and his regret deepened. She was the one who went for so much trouble to save him, even after his insensitive behavior and insults from his family; yet she forgave them without saying anything. How can anyone be so good and kind hearted? At that moment, he fell for her all over again.

Overpowered by immense love and remorse in his heart and feeling utmost admiration for her, Ranbir moved forward and engulfed Prachi in his arms, unable to convey his emotions in words. Prachi was stunned for a moment. But after a while, her hands automatically moved up in response to his hug, resulting into him tightening his hold further. In spite of feeling the pain due to her injuries, Prachi returned embrace with equal intensity, wishing for ache in his heart to soothe more than hers.
