Chapter 40

Kunal tapped his foot impatiently as he waited out at the entrance to the discotheque..

He was irritated, disappointed, tired and at his wits end by now.

Maa casually told him that Both girls have gone to party and he was dejected..and decided in a split second that he is going to bring them back..

The last time they partied in this discotheque was on Kethu's 19 the birthday..it was fun and chill till a gang tried to crash their celebration and had an a altercation with them..

And now on Valentine's day Kuhu and Kethu were here with their friends..

Unable to handle his urge to see her Kunal walked inside..

And just in time..

Kuhu and Kethu had accompanied their friends to 'Blue Ocean'

Kethu called up Parul and informed her about their whereabouts just as they were to get in..

They grooved to music and was having total fun at doing naughty steps to the beats..

Kethu had declined drinks and opted for bottled water..

Kuhu bought OJ for herself and had their couple friends to guard their drinks...

They were enjoying the ambience till a hand crept around Kuhu..

" Excuse me..stay away..!!"

Kuhu pushed away the man and pulled Kethu towards her ..both forming a United front against the person..

He lifted his arms in mock surrender and backed out..

Girls were relieved and after badmouthing such jerks they hit the dance floor again..

Kuhu Kethu or even their friends who were indulged in themselves didn't notice the man reappear and this time aiming for their drinks..

He deftly put something in them and moved aside laying in wait..

After grooving to the hip hop music for some time..Kuhu went back to her place and His eyes shrinked in wild anticipation as she took her long glass ..

Just as Kuhu tilted the glass to her lips it was hit by a hand ..

The glass shattered on the floor as Kunal stood there holding off Kuhu from stepping on broken glass shards..

"Kunal...yeh..kya.tum yahaan,kaise.?"

Kuhu's bewildered question was not answered as he moved forward sheilding her and that was when Kuhu noticed a group of tattooed ruffians scattering and slinking into the shades in the discotheque..

Kethu ran to Kuhu in fear as she understood the seriousness of the situation.

Kunals stare was hard steel as he turned to the girls standing huddled together..

" Get your things...we are getting out of here ASAP..

Kuhu was frightened by the thugs ...but seeing Kunal this volatile was new to her.She haven't seen him this angry even when Avi misbehaved with Mishti...!!!

And his angry glances to her as he drove them back made her think for sure that he accused her for putting Kethu in danger..!

As both the girls silently alighted from the car Kunal stopped them.

" Ghar mein kisise kuch bhi kehne ki zaroorath nahin Hain... pareshaan bhi honge aur aagey se baahar Bina security key jaane bhi nahi denge...so behave normally okay?!"

The enormity of what could have happened was seeping into Kuhu as she nodded mechanically..

And a worrysome shadow cast on Kunal's face..

At dinner Nanu announced that Mishti and Abir were doing okay till now and will be back tomorrow..

Kuhu tried to put up her happy face ...totally dreading Mishti''s response to today's event as her eyes flew to Kunal...who was staring at her..!

Kunal had wanted to call Mishti all day..but had postponed it till now.. thinking about doing a leisurely call....and now he can't call as she would totally get that he was upset... and demand explanation.

Meenakshii and Parul looked relieved at the news and discussion moved on to mundane topics..

Kuhu was lost in thoughts when Kethu left her to sleep..

She hugged herself as if to ward off any bad thing from affecting her..

If Kunal hadn't come ..

She shuddered physically..

He saved you..and you went mute on him.

A small voice reminded her..

Kuhu stood uncertainly at Kunal's door .

She had been in and out of that room without a thought millions of times...but now as she listened to the rythmic and hard hitting sound of basketball she felt apprehensive about entering and facing him..

But the fact that he was disturbed pulled her in..

Well his room was as haphazard as it gets..

Mishti had scolded him million times to keep his gym out of his room..but there lay his dumbbells..cloths he wore the evening..

And her eyes flew to the wall mounted basket and the boy..No .. The man she secretly loved... in shorts and gym vests ....all sweaty and vigorous..

Kunal was drenched in sweat but relentlessly he threw the ball at the wall which bounced back to him..

His couldn't relive the fear that shrouded him when he saw that man put his hands on Kuhu..

And though he wanted to rip him off he had maintained the calm just to avoid a public scene..

Good thing he decided to keep an eye on him.. otherwise he would have drugged her and ...

The ball hit to the basket forcefully bending the ring..

Kunal bent over supporting himself on his knees .. putting a clamp on his emotions..

And as he straightened up with a deep sigh he spotted her.

Standing by the side of his bed ... huddling into herself.. looking at him.with..guilt and fear..

Kunal wanted to shake her at first..

Yell at her for not caring for herself..

But the way her eyes pleaded with him stopped him....

She was not guilty for what happened today..

And he was projecting his frustrations and fear on to her ..

He tried to sound normal..

" What ? Came to check my studies now? Mishti see baat hui Kya?"

Kuhu shook her head in negative sense.

Then deciding to face him head on she said..

" I Know ki tum mujhse naaraz ho..aur hona bhi chahiye..I mean I really did put Kethu in danger..and I am sorry for that ..Tum gussa mat hona..mujhe ..woh..umm. thank you for saving me from.."

Kuhu shuddered at the grim reality she would have had to face if Kunal was not there.

Kunal looked at her in disbelief.

She thought he was angry for putting Kethu in danger..!!??

Did she ever even think about herself and her dangerous situation..??

A look at her hugging herself put breaks on his thoughts..

She was visibly affected and even then she came to him to say sorry!

Kunal wanted to take away all that dread from her eyes..he missed his bubbly -tit for tat -OTT Kuhu..and wanted her back.

He walked up to her and she looked at him nervously ready to face the music.

But his words stunned her .

" Ho Gayi...?!"

She slowly nodded a yes.

" Toh suno..I was angry at you not for Ketki's sake but yours.. tumhein kuch ho jaata toh ..Mera Kya ho jaata ..I promised her that I will protect you...use mein Kya jawab deta..?"

Kuhu looked at him with disbelieving eyes.

"tumhein kuch ho jaata toh ..Mera Kya ho jaata .!"

Was she hearing voices...!!

And promise to protect her ...to Mishti.. obviously..

And he was angry for her and not at her ?

Kunal realised that he had said more than what he intented..

But he had to pull her from this unnecessary guilt..

He stood before her and took her fidgeting palms in his ..

" I am not saying this for you...but for me....Kuhu you are important to me ..I won't say just as Mishti.. because she knows what you mean to me..I care for you and worry about you.. I am making it my right..but I am never angry at you okay..? Ab yeh tension wali face mask door hatao aur ache se so jao.."

Kuhu nodded as if in a dream..

She was sure she was in a dream...that she was really hearing voices..

Kunal was saying to her the words which her subconscious was waiting for months to hear and though his lips synced with what he was saying her brain was not yet ready to totally believe the impossible.

And still she nodded .. whatever he said..... she heard what she wanted...! And turned to go..

Kunal frowned at the way she went silently..

She was shaken more than he thought..

His palm fisted as he thought of the unscrupulous brutes ..and vowed to the retreating figure who held his heart beats..

Next year I will make this day special for you !

Morning afff..ter.

Mishti slowly opened her eyes and closed them again suddenly..

" Oh God ! Let this not be a dream..."

Her mumbling was answered by a chuckle by her ear...

Soft fingers moving to her forhead adjusting the hair falling over her eyes...

Palm cupping her face ...

And then cool lips pressing onto her eyelids..water droplets falling on her face.. his nose rubbing on to hers tickling her awake..

" Ab bhi sapna lag Raha Hein Kya..??!"

Her eyes opened up to the most gorgeous face she had seen in her life ...the face which she had made her life...

As he was homing in she clamped her mouth with her hand...

" Abiir.. no..brush toh karne do.."

Her muffled rubuke brought a wide smile on to his face and Mishti took advantage of the moment to slip out of the bed ..

Abir laid back on the bed . already freshened up and ... totally enjoying Mishti''s dishevelled pouty look ..with that mischievous smile adorning his face making him look boyish...

" Well... you don't get such a good morning everyday...haan tum agar kahoge toh har subah mein .... tumhein....aise ..hi..."

He crept along the bed as Mishti was moving towards the ensuite bathroom keeping by the walls ..her eyes on Abir...

And just as he was out of the bed she ran inside and shut the door with a wholesome laugh...

Abir stood there his whole face lit with joy and called out..

"suno, ready ho ke breakfast keliye aa jaana.."

Mishti pressed herself on to the door ...

Her hand moving to her waist...shyily.. feathering the thin chain..once again making sure that this was not her dream...

Back home.

At breakfast All were excited to receive a call from Abir informing them that they are coming back after arranging the movers to pack some personal belongings to New York..

The elders were happy especially Meenakshii and Nanu..

Meenakshii shares her relief at the way Abir sounded normal happy self and thanked God for the solution to their problem.

Nanu was smiling ...of course the all knowing smile..

" Beta are you waiting up for Mishti today..?"

Parul asked Kuhu ,

" Uhh.. pardon me ...Yes Aunty.?"

Kuhu who was preoccupied didn't hear what Parul asked and she repeated the question.

" Umm nahin..Mera fashion week chal Raha Hein..I will meet Mishti in the evening..Dadi ki pass tho woh aayegi na..wohi mil loongi.."

"Kethu kuch keh Rahi this ki uska aaj class nahin Hein ..toh Maine Socha.."

Parul smiled..

Kethu tried to say something with food in her mouth and Kuhu stopped her.

"Iska literature review chal Raha Hein..Meri tarah thodi bhaagdaud Wala study Hein..ek book liya aur kaam khatam."

" Kunal ko bhi nahin jaana...I will tell the driver to drop you off at the college.."

" Nahin aunty..no problem . Mishti toh har Roz akeli hi jaati Hein na..mein bhi chali jaaoongi.."

Her animated talk came to a sudden halt when her eyes locked on to sharp rebuking ones...

" Acha ...driver..safe bhi and great bhi.. .un.se keh dijiye aunty...mein jaldi ready hoke aati Hoon.."

Kuhu retracted her stand on mode of transport of the day..

" Haan...and call me or Kunal when your classes are over .. better call him ..use woh mote mote law books are ek break bhi mil jaayega.."

Kuhu nodded uncertainly darting a look at a silent Kunal.. munching away an apple..

Mishti looked at the Cessna as they waited for boarding and spotted Mark coming over to her in the lounge..

Abir had instructed Mark to supervise the movers and Packers and he had been given a list of personal belongings that was to be shipped directly to a locker room in Abir's name..and Mark had done just that..

And now as he walked towards Mishti sitting in wait of Abir he smiled at himself..

At last these two did open up. The love and pain he had seen in their eyes the first time he laid eyes on them seated together did transform into love and happiness now..

He sent a silent prayer to God to protect and nurture the bond they both had with each other...

Mark spotted Abir walking towards Mishti and her happy smile as he reached her . But as he neared them Mishti got up from her seat..

And before he could understand what was happening he was being given a bear hug..

Mishti...

" Thank you so much Mark...I don't know how lucky I am to have you too in my life ...

Thanks for helping Abir throughout..and for the nice pleasent surprises you arranged..

I loved everything.."

Mark was truly taken aback by this show of affection and he looked at Abir a bit embarrassed..

But was mildly surprised at the open appreciation in his smile and face..

" Uhh...thanks Mishti..I was just doing my duty.."

" Above and beyond that"

Abir put his appreciation into words..

Later in the flight after giving Mishti the needed care and making sure that she was okay ..Abir excused himself and did a much important video conference with his managers world wide about status quo and informed them he will be joining back tomorrow.

Just as he removed his headphones and was about to join Mishti and Mark.. he heard their talk......discussing work...

Mishti was concerned about both of them.

" With both of you out of station I think work would have mounted up . And you were on duty too.."

" Aww.. don't pull my leg Lady..It's always a pleasure to see smile on his face...it helps with the work you know..who would want to work with a grumpy boss..and Sir .ahem..when grumpy is either difficult to handle.or drowns himself in work.

Work load is just a matter of time..you see he would have cleared half of it by now.."

Mark said with an easy wave of hand.

Mishti nodded and said wistfully..

"Hmm..I know..I wish I could get some insight into how to manage..of course the system there is old but it suits everyone and therefore they follow it..I did some change in the filing system and don't know how they are coping with the change...and they didn't even call once for any queries.."

She sounded worried a bit and Mark soothed her smilingly..

" They do manage wonderfully and would have been told not to disturb you... your boss is something..!

Mishti spotted Abir and her face changed a bit and Mark was quick to note..

Abir joined them and sighed..

" Heard you both so don't backtrack..I am so relieved that Mark is aware of your work and your boss...."

He paused and took in both of their reactions..

Mark was about to move away ..and Mishti was kind of fidgeting...

" Why I am not surprised.. Mark ..! You are behaving more like her private secretory than my Personal Assistant...you both definitely give Partner in Crime vibes and I am feeling let out already..!!"

" Well umm..if I keep her happy then you are definitely happy and that's my job description. To Take care of all your needs...!"

Mishti guffawed at this..

"Seriously..Abiir... that's the job description for your PA post..??."

Mark winked at her and shrugging at Abir he moved away giving them their privacy..

Abir was miffed by the teasing he got from Mishti and pulled her on to his lap..

Mishti teasingly resisted and then succumbed to his embrace..

Abir looked at her face and sighed..snuggling on to her bosom..

" I don't know how I am going to hold myself at home...tum mere pass hi hogi....aur mein tumhein...yeh nahi Kar saktha.."

He pressed his lips on to her neck... inhaling her ...

"Yeh nahi Kar saktha..."

His fingers moving along her waist in search ..

" Abiiirrrr!"

She cupped his face and made him look at her...

Both of them already feeling the blues of the impending separation even though they will be under the same roof... and in adjescent rooms..

" Mishtiii.."

Abir's eyes widened as he saw her eyes mist over..

And in a swoop her lips were on his..

His arms tightened around her...palm moving under her cardigan in a soothing yet scintillating way..

He let her kiss him...

As long as she wanted..

As long as she needed..

And when her hair moved away from his face... He adjusted her glasses.. holding on to her tightly..knowing very well that she is going to shy away from him..

" I too don't know how I am going to spend seconds away from you...."

His low voiced admission made her snuggle up to him more..

He kissed her hair as she encircled her arm around him ..

" Mishti Promise me you won't ever leave me alone... I won't be able to hold myself together if I lose you again.."

Her reply was a soft kiss on the side of his neck where her face rested and his response was to lay her on his arm and quench his thirst from her lips..

Kuhu spotted Kunal waiting for her at the usual space ..

No sulking !! She reminded herself..

Mishti asked her to take care of him..and if he was stressed about yesterday then she have to find a way to cheer him up .

" Wow..cool works..kise impress karne aaye ho.."

As usual she put her foot in mouth and she realized that when she got a harsh look coming her way..

" Acha baba.. sorry..gussa abhi bhi baaki Hein toh..ek kaam Karthe Hein.. coffee time?!"

Kunal looked at Kuhu..and understood that she was trying to be normal with him..

Even after what he said to her last night she was friendzoning him?

" Coffee time!"

He said and signalled her to get in the car..

Kuhu..went on with her chatter about her day and the preps she did for the fashion week..and how someone messed up their whole garment ending up with all teasing him..

Kunal listened but concentrated on driving and by the time he parked the car by the cafe Kuhu was silent...

He brought two lattes and handed her's over..

Kuhu was about to sip but stopped as she saw the latte art ... two teddies and a heart.!

Her eyes flew to Kunal's in surprise as his shifted initially..but then with a sharp breath he met her eyes defiently..

" I know you consider me as a friend..and I am..umm your friend...but as I made it clear yesterday you are more..more than a friend to me...you are the first girl to make me speechless..at first sight.... even when I thought you were Mishti..and confused the hell out of me..!!! "

Kuhu's mind flew to the day she met Kunal...

He was talking about that long back??!!

She kept her cup on the table....opened her mouth to say something.,.but paused letting Kunal speak out..

" So I am trying to tell you that I umm like you.....and Mishti..she knows all about my feelings for you and ..uhh.."

He was surprised by the bear hug as Kuhu hugged him tight..

" Itna time lagadiya duffer kahinka..!!"

Her muffled rebuke laced with love and desperation sparked something new in him..

Slowly he realized in disbelief that it was happening...the like he described to Mishti was turning into something more warm , wholesome..achy feeling which got more and more deeper as he hugged her back...

MishBir’s Valentines VM was so romantic but the song itself was so sad in the movie that I’m getting a grave foreboding that he’s going to leave her! I think their MU will be caused by Abir hiding from her who’s the real buyer of that apartment and Mishti hiding from him she’s working in Meenu’s travel agency. 😒

Itni jaldi separation mat Karna please, let us enjoy some more chapters of chhup chhup ke romance and Sab ki nazron se bachkar holding hands, kissing etc. chori chori romance ka mazaa hi kuch aur hai 😳

I was not sure how it will come out..

We haven't seen any romantic moments between KUKU.. Evn if they were touted as a couple..
