The marriage age of girls were increased to 12 in 1891, so I guess the show is portraying an India were such laws were not followed. Later in 1929, the law was amended to have girls age as 14 and men's age as 18.

That means even after these laws it were not followed in the country..!

yes indeed true.maybe makers are Trying to portray how such young girls are exploited which happens In today time also . he can be behind Hira Mandi girls and bon maybe next track is on child exploitation and how such things are hidden and ignored instead of raising voice which happens in today times also. plus we need to understand it is the era of 1920 where girls of bon age are treated as if they are a teen of 15-16. they were mature because they used to face hardships like bon has faced but yet her innocence is inatact . but again mini is an exception.
