I have tried my best to give a longer update this time, making it the longest chapter till now, containing nearly 2k words. Hope you all will be satisfied with this chapter. 😊

Chapter-6:

Closing the door behind her, Bondhita leant against it, trying to calm her racing heartbeats. She was thankful to Batuk for coming to the study. Owing to the interruption, she was able to flee from the study and come to their room. All these sensations were new and overwhelming for her. This new side of her PatiBabu, their closeness, was creating a frenzy in her heart. It was not that she was not aware of her feelings for her PatiBabu, she had long been aware of it, but experiencing it made everything seem new and different. Still blushing, remembering the moment that had transpired between them in the study, she walked to the washroom to get ready for the night.

Anirudh, who had come to the room to take his nightwear, stopped short when he noticed Bondhita coming out of the washroom in a white nightgown. His hold on the cupboard door tightened, making his knuckles turn white. It was the first time he was seeing her donning something other than saree. She looked no less than an angel, and he felt captivated at the sight of her. With great difficulty, restraining himself from walking up to her and taking her in his arms, he took out his clothes from the cupboard, and murmuring a quick "good night", dashed out of the room, before she could even reply.

The next morning went in a blur amidst the hustle-bustle that was going on for the function. One could hear Trilochan Kaka shouting orders to the workers now and then. By evening, the Roy Choudhary mansion was a sight to behold, decorated with flowers and lights. The aroma of food drifted in the air. Guests had started coming. Bondhita was getting ready in her room upstairs. Kaka noticed Anirudh, who was wearing a red Kurta and off white pyjama for a change, and called out to him, "Beta jake dekho apne kamre mai Bahu taiyaar hui ya nahi. Mehmaan aane shuru hogaye hain. Jao bula kar leke aao aakhir tum dono ke liye hi toh ye jashn rakha hai humne." Nodding, Anirudh made his way to their room.

"Bondhita...", Anirudh stopped mid-sentence as his eyes fell on Bondhita who was trying to do her saree's pallu. On the other hand, Bondhita, who was not expecting anyone to barge in like this stood still in shock. She looked up at Anirudh whose eyes were staring at her intensely with his hands folded tightly into fists on either side. Noticing Anirudh's gaze, she realized her state of undress. With the pallu in her hand, she just had a blouse covering her upper body. Her face heated in embarrassment as she quickly turned to the other side. Anirudh, who was standing frozen at the door, entered inside the room, locking the door behind him. Bondhita's heart raced in nervousness at his action.

"Ye... Ye aap kya kar rahe hain PatiBabu?", her voice came in a low whisper. Clearing his throat, he approached her slowly. Standing behind her, he leant near her ear and whispered "Darwaja laga diya hai Bondhita. Ab koi nahi aayega. Agar meri jagah koi aur hota toh?". He couldn't tolerate even the thought of anyone else seeing her like this. Bondhita's heart raced at their proximity. "Koi nahi aata humare kamre mai bina knock kiye.", she replied. "Par mai toh koi risk nahi le sakta", Anirudh muttered, more like grumbled. A smile crept on Bondhita's face at what he said. Anirudh's warm breath fanned her neck, making her shiver. Unconsciously, she crept closer to him until her back was touching his front. Anirudh took a sharp breath at the contact, and his hands travelled to her shoulder as he turned her towards himself. He took the pallu from her hand, making Bondhita look at him questioningly. "Mai kar deta hoon", he answered, explained his actions. "Par Patibabu..", she started opposing but was silenced by Anirudh's finger on her lips which quivered at his touch.

In no time he was done pleating her pallu and was helping her pin it. All this time, Bondhita looked at her PatiBabu in amazement, wondering if there was anything that he didn't know to do. "When and how did he learn to do that?", she was going to ask him when she heard Kaka's voice, "Arre Anirudh kahan reh gaye? Bahu ko leke aane kaha tha humne, ab tum kahan gum hogaye? Jaldi aao. Mehmaan puch rahe hain." "Mai chalta hoon Bondhita. Tum taiyaar hoke jaldi neeche aana. Mai intezaar karunga", Anirudh said, emphasizing the last line. Bondhita blushed and nodded in response. "Aaya Kaka", shouting out a reply to Kaka, Anirudh walked out of the room.

Meanwhile, in the neighbouring house, sat a woman in front of a large mirror, staring at her reflection proudly. And why not, she had always thought of herself to be the most beautiful woman and today, she wanted to look her best. After all, she had a long-awaited mission to accomplish. Now, the time has finally come, when she would see Anirudh realize what he had lost. Bondhita would never be able to compare to her beauty, and today she would show him that.

Her thought went back to the morning when she had returned from her friend's house. That's when her Dida informed her of Bondhita's return from London, much to her displeasure. The news made her anxious to see how grown up Bondhita looked. However, she was confident that there was no way she would look better than her. So, she had decided to wait and meet her at the party. Taking a last look at her reflection, she sighed in satisfaction. "Aa rahi hai tumhari Pari didi, tumse milne Bondhita", Soudamini smiled evilly and left for the function.

Bondhita descended the staircase, drawing everyone's attention, looking every bit ethereal in the red Banarasi sari with golden work. Soudamini felt her face lose colour, when her eyes landed on Bondhita, who opposed to what she had thought, looked like a pari in real sense. Bondhita's eyes searched for her PatiBabu amidst the sea of guests, when she heard his familiar voice from beside her, "Mujhe dhoondh rahi ho kya Bondhita? Mai toh yahin hoon tumhare paas".

She felt a soft touch on her bare waist, making her breath hitch. To make sure she wasn't mistaken, she looked up at her PatiBabu and felt a blush crept up her necks at the way he was looking at her. "Chalein?" he asked her, with a teasing smile playing on his lips. All she could do was nod absentmindedly as she was tugged along by him to greet the guests. Soudamini who witnessed this exchange between the duo, felt herself burn in jealousy. No, this can't happen. She won't let Bondhita snatch Anirudh from her, she decided, an evil plan already formulating in her mind.

The party was in full swing. Soudamini, who was waiting for a chance to talk to Bondhita, finding an opportunity walked to her. "Gale nahi milogi apni pari didi se. Itne saalon baad dekh rahi hoon tumhe. Anirudh toh tumhari kabhi jikr hi nahi karta tha. Mujhe toh laga bhul hi gaya hai ki tumse vivaah bhi hua hai uska. Mujhe toh darr tha tum aaogi hi nahi haveli waapas.", said Saudamini with a caring smile that could easily fool a person of her real persona. Bondhita happily hugged Saudamini, unfazed by her statement, and instead praised her PatiBabu, "Aisi baat nahi hai Pari didi, PatiBabu toh bohot achche hain. Apko koi galatfehmi hui hai. Unhone toh mujhe diya vaada bakhubi nibhaya hai. Apko pata hai har mahine mujhe khat bheja karte the PatiBabu. Ek baar bhi bhule nahi woh." Hearing Bondhita's reply, only fuelled Saudamini's anger. She opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted by Trilochan Kaka, who called out Bondhita to greet some guests.

"Kaka Sasur bula rahe hain. Mai kal aapse milne aati hoon Pari didi. Bhot saari baatein karni hai aapse.", saying this, Bondhita went away and again got busy in attending the guests. "Jao Bondhita jao. Jashn manao, kyunki aaj ke baad tumhe ye mauka dobara milne nahi dungi mai. Aakhir tumhe tumhare vivaah ki sachchai mujhe hi toh batani padegi na. Kya itna hi bharosa rahega apne PatiBabu pe, jab tumhe ye pata chalega ki tumhara vivaah Anirudh ki achchai ka nateeja hai? Ek majboori hai, jise aaj tak nibhata aa raha hai woh.", Saudamini whispered to herself, smiling at what she had in store for Bondhita tomorrow. She watched Anirudh introduce Bondhita as "Barrister Bondhita Anirudh Roy Choudhary" to the guests. His eyes shone with so much pride and followed Bondhita everywhere. But pride wasn't the only emotion there. There was something else too. Something that she had always wanted to see in Anirudh's eye for herself but never found. But now, it was there but not for her. It was for Bondhita. She would destroy their relationship before it could progress any further, she pledged and today would mark the beginning of it.

By the time guests left, it was nearing midnight. Bondhita was exhausted, and her eyes felt droopy. She dragged her body upstairs to their room, ready to get some sleep. Sitting in front of the mirror, she lazily started removing the heavy jewellery she had worn for the function. Anirudh, who had come to take his nightwear, saw his wife's tired form and moved towards her to lend her a helping hand. "Lao mai madad kar deta hoon", saying that he sat in front of her. She didn't protest as he took her hands into his large one, and delicately started removing her bangles one by one. Then he stood up and moved her hair to one side. His fingers grazed her skin, causing shivers to run down her spine. Anirudh's condition was no different, as he felt his heart thumping wildly. He slowly removed her neckpiece, staring at her reflection in the mirror. Her eyes were squeezed shut, lips slightly parted, and her chest rose and fell with every heavy intake of air. He was mesmerized by the sight of her. His gaze shifted to her lips, and he felt his throat go dry. The earrings which he had removed, slipped from his hands and fell on the ground.

"So jao Bondhita, raat bhot ho gayi hai aur tum kafi thak gayi ho. Kal subah ki aarti ke liye jaldi uthna haina.", he whispered. His lips brushed her ears, causing a soft moan to escape from Bondhits's lips. His hands which were gripping her shoulders from behind tightened at the sound. Before he could lose control, he pulled himself away and taking his nightwear that she had already laid out for him, like she used to before, walked out of the room.

Bondhita slowly dared to open her eyes once she heard the sound of the door getting shut. All this felt like a dream to her. Now that she was grown up, she very well knew the kind of relationship that husband and wife shared. She had heard about it from her friends, but she had never thought that one day, she too would get to experience this side of her husband. She knew the reason behind it was that she got married to her PatiBabu when she was a child, but it never occurred to her that why would he marry a child when he was against child marriage. She slept peacefully that night, unaware of the storm that had already arrived at the doorstep and was inching closer and closer with every passing second. Now only time would tell if it drew them apart or brought them even closer.
