A Delhi stockbroker, Amber Bipinchandra Gaba (39), was arrested for sending actress Sushmita Sen eight gifts, including bridal attire, wedding accessories and cosmetics. An obsessed Gaba had also sent eight letters to Sushmita asking her to marry him.
Ironically, Gaba got obsessed with Sushmita after watching her debut film Dastak, which has actor Sharad Kapoor playing her obsessed fan. "The incident had shocked Sushmita, as Gaba repeatedly threatened her with phone calls, couriered letters and gifts," said Jaychandra Kate, investigating officer, Khar police station.
Gaba was arrested from Delhi on March 29, after Sushmita filed a complaint with the Khar police. He started calling Sushmita's Khar office in February and also managed to speak to her twice. During the first conversation, he told the actress he was obsessed with her and proposed marriage. But Sushmita didn't take the incident seriously.
In the next call, Gaba allegedly told her, "If you don't get married to me, I will come there and kill you. Agar tum meri nahin ho gayi, toh kissi ki nahin hogi."
Soon after, Sushmita's office received the gifts, which also had chocolates for her daughter. The police tracked down Gaba through the courier company, which had his residential address. Amber said he had done no wrong. "Don't create controversy. This is a personal matter," he said. Sushmita was not available for comment.
