Amrapali is a great movie! Saw it on Netflix a few months ago. Just loved it. So much simpler than historicals made today by SLB, but still more beautiful and entertaining ❤️

They took quite a few liberties with the original story. But it's only to be expected in a Bollywood historical. Amrapali was given a sanskari makeover and promoted from a nagar vadhu who was expected to sleep with all the prominent citizens of Vyshali to a Raj Narthaki who could pick and choose her lovers.Ajat Shatru's father Bimbisar was her lover in the original tale. The film also does not mention that Ajat Shatru came into power by executing his own father.

Another dance off between Padmini and Helen. "Tumko piya dil diya" from Shikar.

How are the other two cringeworthy, though? The choreography and the picturisation of that Devdas number is actually way better and more ingenious and I'm saying this as someone who loves Vyjayanthimala.
